Over 20 complete shouts!

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:00 am

I forgot that the article said there were over 60 words in total. With 60+ words, the idea of 7 individual, unique shouts; each with 3 varying degrees of intensity can't work, because it would mean that there was only 21 words. So I will now say there are 23 unique shouts, that each need 3 words in it to be effectively used and I will also guess, from what I read, that the longer you hold the button for some shouts the more intense the effect will be, but I would also guess that for the sake of balancing the overpowered effects that these shouts will unleash, that their delivery will be kind of slow and will leave you exposed for a few seconds, and defenseless against any enemy attack--and that being struck while in the midst of summoning a shout, would cancel the shout altogether.

Lastly, and this is to Proditus, I can't see why some words couldn't possibly be used in two different shouts. Ultimately, it is the combination of words that matters, not the individual meaning of a specific word.

I doubt that very much, I believe you'll be able to shout in the heat of battle. Though how they will balance it, my guess is dragon souls. I believe a shout will consume a dragon soul because "the dragon souls will fuel the dragon shouts" has been stated.

I'm going to guess low 20's. I assume it will be higher than 20, but lower than 25.

Todd said over 20 complete shouts. This means 20 - 25. If it's between 25 and 30, they would say "almost thirty".

It's most likely that there are between 21 and 25. If there were more than 25 they would have said "more than 25 shouts". But since they said "more than 20 shouts" my best guess is that it is somewhere between 21 and 25.

Todd said over 20 complete shouts! That means it's more than just 20! So psyched! :D How many do you think there will be :)

Edit - "to quote "60 individual words that form up into over 20 complete shouts, Skyrim’s hero will be a force to be reckoned with" Now, how does 60 words for OVER 20 shouts...you might say 3 words 60 divided by 3 that's 20 easy....well that'd be wrong that IS 20 shouts not over, in order to have over you'd need to use the words not only once in a string of 3 words, but you'd have to mix them up to "Fus, Ro, Dah!" how about "Fus. Ro, Kiin!" You see you can have many more than 20 shouts."

Edit - however here is another case
If they say "Over 20", it implies a number higher than 20 but lower than thirty, because if it was exactly 20, they could just say 20, not over 20, if it was more than 30, they'd say over 30, not over 20, so 25 seems like a good number, give or take a few. Though it could also mean that it's like Madaras Zore suggested and they actually aren't sure of the exact number of shouts available in the game, but they're sure there will be at least 20, so they're being safe and just saying "Over 20", which means there can be more shouts if more are added later on, but as long as they deliver at least the 20, it doesn't promise anything that we won't actually see, only time will tell, though.

It's been stated that they currently have 60 words, but also that they are developing more words every day. So don't think it's been solved and set at 20

I don't get it. What is so big about a "dragon shout". What is it suppose to do? Is it a magic spell?

*jaw drops* WHAT?! Ok I'll just give you a small clip of information released!

“In the lore, Tiber Septim was the first main emperor. He could shout. His way of the Voice was unmatched,” Howard explains. “He is the original guy who walks the seven thousand steps and talks to the Greybeards. And the idea is, at that time, that they were so powerful they had to have all the villages flee for miles. This little kid is walking up this snowy mountain, and all these people are packed up and they’re walking down and away. Because they know the kid is going up to talk to these guys, and when they talk there’s going to be avalanches.”

Thank you. So they are just like magic spells, or scorlls. When saying something in the proper order, you get a "spell" or "ability".

I voted 21 because if you defeat Alduin, you could summon him with Dragon Shout.
Would be awesome.

it said we would get a dragon ally we could summon... i HIGHLY doubt we could turn alduin into a freaking pet.

besides, what would be the point of summoning alduin? it'd be the end of the story, basically... we'd have no use for him.

no, i think we'll just summon a lesser dragon, probably not even a large one, really.

Oh I wasn't trying to say that you wouldn't be able to shout in the heat of battle Madaras. I guess when I think of the dragon shouts I think of Thu'um(the tongues). And when I think of the power of Thu'um I think of this kind of deep, guttural noise(like slow-motion sound) that requires a deep inhalation by the character to gather the force needed to put power behind the shout and then even when the shout is released it takes a moment to reach maximum capacity(ie:holding the button longer to increase the intensity of the shout and then releasing the button to release the full force that you've accumulated). So its my theory and my hope that the shouts can be called quickly in battle for minor effects(like a force push/shockwave style of attack), but to really charge them up to full intensity, you would have to hold the button longer, leaving your character defenseless while you do so.

I really do hope though, that the shout animations are kind of slow and drawn out, to give them an epic quality that separates them from all the other forms of combat in the game.

I hope we have to figure out which words together do which.

That would be fun.

"Hmmm......I wonder if I should say this with these two?"

[Summons dragon]

Dragon: What do you want?

PC:.......uhh nothing actually just trying out these words...

Dragon: DO, you realize how far I had to fly out here? This isn't just some spell, this is draconic!!! I had to fly all the way from my cave to come looking for you!!! And it wasn't easy, this universe hasn't invented google maps yet, you know!!! You know how cold it gets flying in Skyrim? ITS %%%%%%ING COLD!!!! Not just the winter but I have to travel at higher attitude that really hurts my lungs, and there is NO reason you summoned me.

PC: I didn't mean to.....

Dragon: OF COURSE YOU DIDN'T MEAN TO! You dragon born think your so cool using draconic don't you? ***hole.

[Dragon flies off]

PC: Sorry.....hey wait what the hell is Google Maps?

Aside the little story it would be a lot of fun to discover the different spells effect by trying them out.

60+ words doesn't necessarily mean they are all going to be used for shouts... he could just mean the language itself... if it specifies otherwise my bad, but I'm just saying lol. I truly hope there are a ton, and they're all unique and helpful, I'm just trying to stay grounded in case there aren't 20 something of them.

That's true, there are going to be many words, I'm fairly sure, that won't be used for shouts. That does not however mean that they won't have more than 21 different shouts. They have really left any possibility out there when saying over 20 shouts.
