Over 20 complete shouts!

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 2:13 pm

Todd said over 20 complete shouts! That means it's more than just 20! So psyched! :D How many do you think there will be :)

Edit - "to quote "60 individual words that form up into over 20 complete shouts, Skyrim’s hero will be a force to be reckoned with" Now, how does 60 words for OVER 20 shouts...you might say 3 words 60 divided by 3 that's 20 easy....well that'd be wrong that IS 20 shouts not over, in order to have over you'd need to use the words not only once in a string of 3 words, but you'd have to mix them up to "Fus, Ro, Dah!" how about "Fus. Ro, Kiin!" You see you can have many more than 20 shouts."

Edit - however here is another case
If they say "Over 20", it implies a number higher than 20 but lower than thirty, because if it was exactly 20, they could just say 20, not over 20, if it was more than 30, they'd say over 30, not over 20, so 25 seems like a good number, give or take a few. Though it could also mean that it's like Madaras Zore suggested and they actually aren't sure of the exact number of shouts available in the game, but they're sure there will be at least 20, so they're being safe and just saying "Over 20", which means there can be more shouts if more are added later on, but as long as they deliver at least the 20, it doesn't promise anything that we won't actually see, only time will tell, though.

It's been stated that they currently have 60 words, but also that they are developing more words every day. So don't think it's been solved and set at 20

I voted 21 because if you defeat Alduin, you could summon him with Dragon Shout.
Would be awesome.

I'm pretty sure its just 20. Didn't he say there were 60 letters in the alphabet and each 3 made one dragon shout. Perhaps there is 21, but I believe there is only 20.

They said there'd be over 20 screens in the GI cover story.... didn't happen. "IT'S OVER TWENTY!!!" probably means about twenty-ish, maybe 21. :/ But I'm hoping for 25 --- but only if they're useful -- if it's something you could just put as a spell, don't bother.

no he said there was 26 letters, and a word is more than just 1 letter, dovahkiin is only 1 word.

Well 5 and 50 both do not make sense. Because if it was 5 they wouldn't say over twenty. And if it was 30 or above they also wouldn't say over twenty.

I voted 25, because I think it will be between 21-25.

every shout is supposed to be immensely powerful, so I wouldn't worry about that, on another note I wanted to state that I believe there will be over 30 though less than 50 when he says "over 20" I highly doubt he means 21 and I know he chooses his words carefully.

I'm liking the collection mechanic for the 60 words. That''s something I would enjoy as it's not arbitrary.

Glad your IQ is high enough to be on the forum :D The reason it might be 30 40 or 50 is because that would be a huge surprise. I'd say not likly 50 or even 40 because that's a lot, 30 I think is most likely. 30 would be a nice surprise :D

no, it was written today that there are 34 letters. It's probably something like 21-23 shouts. I don't remember them saying that EVERY shout incorporated 3 words. I have a feeling that a couple shouts are only 2 words long.

I agree with the people saying it's probably between 21 and 24 or 25. If it were more than 25 they would probably say "more than 25 (or any other number a multiple of five).

Honestly more than twenty is a larger number than I was expecting. I was anticipating something along the lines of the spell system in Eternal Darkness.

That's the non-translated rune language, 26 when translated.

So are you guys saying that any shmuck off the street can say these words and a dragon will appear? That's kinda out there.

There will be 20 shouts and each one has 3 levels, but I don't understand how this will work for some of the shouts.

For example, if you summon a dragon but only get the first word out, does that mean a little weakling dragon comes?

I bet that levitation or some kind of dragon flight will be a shout. Some massive fireblast will probably be a shout. Slow time, and force blast will be shouts. I bet that there will be a shout that turns your enemy to stone for a couple seconds. Blink / quick teleport is a shout. Maybe you can make a localized earthquake with a shout. The final shout you get will just explode enemies into gory goo ala F3.

“There are these words of power, and if you learn how to say them right, they have a powerful effect,”
“There are three words for each shout, and there are three levels to them. The amount of time you hold down the shout button is how many words come out,”
"The dragonborn are a unique group of mortals, gifted by the gods with the same power as the dragons."
"“There are other people in the world who can use the dragon shouts, but it’s very rare. It’s like arcane knowledge. It used to be done more in the past,” Howard explains. “The Greybeards know it. But your ability to absorb the dragon souls and do the shouts on the level that you can is beyond them.”"

I can't quote the whole thing but those bits should answer your question.

This, there is really no room for discussion. It clearly explains the system in the article. There will be approximately 60 different words, that add up to 20 different Shouts.

In any case, in advertising of any sort, if you say "Over" a particular amount, such as say 20, that means its going to be less than 30, other wise they would go ahead and say 30 or Over 30. Usually the amount its over is by 1 or 2.
