Over glorifying Radiant Story?

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 2:05 am

People talk about Radiant Story on these forums like it's going to be the most amazing thing in gaming history in terms of AI development.
But you know who's saying that? You all are. Not Bethesda. They are keeping quiet about it.
Once Skyrim comes out and you realize that Radiant Story isn't all that YOU cracked it up to be, don't blame Bethesda. It's your own fault.

Thank you! Thats what happened in Oblivion, then everyone was calling Todd a liar for things he never said.

I think that no one can know unless they play the game.

I think that too many people are sizing up Skyrim based on Oblivion (a 6 year old game)

I think that it's funny.

I am just hoping that we do not have 5 million end game choices (such like FO: NV) I have yet to beat the game due to these choices..

Help me!

But that's what made New Vegas so fun.

It seems to me that a lot of people are asking Radiant story to do things it might not be able to do. Are we over glorifying it and making too much of it? Kind of like what happened to Radiant AI before Oblivions release.

Let's repeat and bold that for emphasis:

Kind of like what happened to Radiant AI before Oblivions release.

Personally, I think it's amazing that they actually used the word "Radiant" again. The very first time I saw a reference to Radiant Story, the very first thing that popped into my mind was, "Yeah... this'll turn out just like Radiant AI."

It's such an obvious conclusion that I sincerely have no idea why Beth recycled the term.

I'd say that, even without that bizarre reminder of past disappointments, Radiant Story is certain to at least fail to live up to the expectations of the most enthusiastic cheerleaders.

It's always best, in the months before a TES release, to set one's expectations low rather than high.

i dont know but i think radiant story will probaly get boring and we will just ignore their quests, who knows, i mean, im really excited about it, im going to love killing someone i dont like, or chosing if i want or not to kill him, but probaly the quests will be generic quests we did a milhion times before in a diferent place with diferent npc names,, i dont know,, i hope its not like this tough

I thought it was better to post this here than to start a new thread.

It looks like Radiant Story may not play as much as a role as we thought it would.

Todd mentioned something like that in the podcast with GI. That they started with Radiant Story and realized the stories it told were pretty crappy. So they pulled it back and are making the quests largely hand-written, but with some parameterized/dynamic plot points and such.

I don't know what other people expect it to do, but I will simply expect what the devs have told me Radiant Story will do, and either way, it will do more than any other AI programming has done before.(I'm looking forward to stalking townspeople to see how elaborate their daily lives are.)

LOL you gonna loose your time stalking an age old Morrowind mod feature ?

Yup. Just like how it won't be in Skyrim, you won't be the Dragonborn, and it won't be an RPG.

It's actually going to be reskinned Call of Duty ported onto Gamebryo. The only thing it'll have is 1:20 horses confirmed.

Yeah because the original Radiant AI did exactly what was hyped:

Interesting dialogue,
realistic behavior
etc...

LOL
