This nearly happened to me with Halo: Reach.
Id watch video after video trying to find any shred of new information. Than i got over it.. It was then that i knew i was going too far and i should stop before i destroy my liking for the game. (I Pre ordered too)

For Brink, i am still waiting for new information.. i dont watch the same videos over and over. I do nothing. I get on with uni assignments, and go see my firends more often.

However forums tend to make things worse sometimes.

Nothing. I guess I'm playing high stakes, either it'll be amazing and I'll poop my pants, or it will svck and I'll be a bit depressed. But I don't watch video after video. I just crawl the forums.

Reach turned out to be a very dissapointing game, with the potential of becoming great, but the developers didn't listen good enough. After 7 months they think removing a map from living dead is going to work when there are 100s of complaints on other things.

I hope Brink won't follow this path. And I really hope that Splash Damage are like Bungie and try to listen and interact with their community to see how they (lol we) like it and maybe adjust some things based on that, through title updates if necessary.

I have the tendency to over hype about games I'm about to buy.

However, I get to face extreme and sudden teenage drama, so that's got my attention off BRINK.

I am sorry but i have to dissagree with you there.I dont want to seem like im kissing bungies [censored], (there are parts of the game that i believe, still, need polishing) but they did listen. They listened to the majority and the vocal minority were the only ones who didnt like the new changes.

But i do agree with you here. I hope Brink goes down no such path, also.

Yes, this has happened with me with Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I waited for that game, watched many videos, and even done an RP for that game. Then, when it came out, while I enjoyed it, it didn't live up to my expectations. (ES III: Morrowind was a little like that, too, for me at first, because I was inexperienced with old-fashioned RPG's, but then as I got older and got better at it and added mods to it, it lived up to the hype in the end).

However, I usually stay somewhat hyped about games, but I would think about whether or not this kind of game would be worth it for me. I usually buy games cheaper or pre-owned,
so I rarely buy games brand-new. However, games can be a risk because your idea of fun and your expectations may be different than someone else's. (Everyone has opinions, after all).

For me, I would observe as many videos as possible, do research and listen to others' opinions on how the game is like so far (like those who've had hands-on experience like
people who've played it at a gaming event or gaming sites, blogs, etc) and then decide from there.

I know every game, even the greatest games out there, has its flaws and weaknesses and exploits. Plus, I have my own tastes and expectations. For example, Legend of Zelda games
are deemed great by many people (especially the Ocarina of Time), however, I do not really enjoy these kinds of games so much and don't get the hype for them. Meanwhile, I enjoy
niche games like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Faukt4_bdQ series, which are seen as mediocre games by the mainstream gaming sites (or boring by mainstream male gamers, lol), etc---but I enjoy them because it has certain features most games don't have (female character protagonist, raising a farm, marriage, having children, etc).

So, yeah, I don't know how to not "over-hype" something. I just think, "Okay, I'm going to imagine playing this game for real and think about it realistically (not all games have everything you want). Now, is this the kind of game I think would be worth it after looking at how it's played in videos and descriptions of it from gaming sites/people's opinions, etc. And, have I heard of this company, what previous works has this company has done, etc, etc."

I think this is a personal thing you have to work out yourself. Think about your feelings, think about the game rationally based on what you've seen and heard so far, and make a decision.
You can buy the game a bit later after it comes out and hearing reviews about it or rent it (depending on the console---PC games are not really rentable, I think, unfortunately).

EDIT: Besides Brink, the only other games I have brought new recently were LittleBigPlanet2 (because the first one was awesome and the second one sounded really awesome) and Transformers: War for Cybertron. TF: War for Cybertron was a pretty big risk for me (besides Brink) because it is a licensed game (most licensed games are somewhat bad), it was from a company I have not heard of, and the company only had two somewhat average/mediocre-ish games before TF:WFC. Talk about a risk! Luckily, I ended up enjoying the game, even with some of its flaws, and I still play it to this day. ^_^

Lol! :D This wasn't the first time someone on this forum said that to me.
I guess most of us gals have similar mindsets like the males do, hehe. ^_^
I think it's because many of us gals (especially as we get older) have more things to stress out about than games, like responsibilities
of taking care of children/baby-sitting children, finding jobs/working multiple jobs (we don't get paid as much as males), doing chores, buying groceries, etc, etc.

Harvest Moon rocks, man.
In a way, it's the console version of Facebook's Farmville, really. (With marriage and children added, lol).

So, no. I have only overhyped on Elder Scrolls games, but I still like to hype a bit about games. Games are like candy in a grab bag---you never know what you are going to get, lol! :D

I must be really easy to please.

I actually liked the campaigns of Halo Reach and Call of Duty: Black Ops.

I don't know what it is. Maybe I just know I shouldn't be expecting Emmy winning script writing and voice acting, or stellar, totally innovative game play that encourages creative thinking, just a good time worth remembering.

Even DOOM is still freakin' awesome.

I can't imagine I'll be let down by Brink, honestly.

Gears of War 3, Universe Sandbox, and Portal 2 to keep me distracted.

But to keep me from being over-hyped? Nothing. I have 100% confidence this will work out good, and I can't really think of anything that could make me sad about it.
Except for making every Archtype into the Anger. With a Boston accent. That would be pretty much it for me.

I am hype up about brink but not to an insane level because just a few days later LA NOIRE is coming out and that is something I am really hyped about.

I don't DO overhyped.

I have cautious optimism, but enough optimism in that caution in this case to warrant a pre-order.

I'm with you man, I like Halo: Reach's campaign, I wouldn't touch Blops with a spear though. I don't mind playing mediocre stories but I usually end up playing private matches, and matchmaking more then the story.

BTW Bunny you should search up Rune Factory (I'm pretty sure thats what its called.) Its like Harvest Moon and a RPG mixed together, pretty interesting concept.

OT: I forge in Halo: Reach, I'm currently working on like 5 maps... I've got ADHD methinks.

The anticipation literally kept me up at night yesterday :/

I try to listen to Halo OST's, play some Reach & BC2, invade some planets in Gal Civ....... Or, god forbid, do school work! Damn, I hate those damn Higgs Bosons, so many theoretical masses!

Last time I wanted a shooter this bad is when I played the BFBC2 beta.. That was a torturous wait after that... I'm kind of glad they didn't have a demo/open beta for BRINK.. Would have made waiting all the worse...

Meh. I wasn't trying to reference anything, and I'm not a big Tom Hanks fan, heh.

OMG, lol, that reminds me of some time long ago when some dudes on some HM forums said they had to pretend they were getting the HM games for their girlfriends or for their female relatives in order not to get embarrassed buying those games in public! :lmao:

Yeah, Blaven, I've heard of those RF games. My sister had a couple of them long ago and enjoyed them. I never played because there were no female characters to play as (it was always a male)-----but in a recent RF game you can play female offspring in the third or fourth game or whatever, BUT you still had to play the dad in the beginning half of the game, argh. Wait, that's weird. Ew, I had to play as my dad (making him get lucky with the ladies *ahem*) before I can play the chick---who was his daughter, lol?

OT: I really, really like the Halo: Reach and Black Ops campaigns as well. Those campaigns kept me pretty busy (and it was awesome to play offline co-op in Halo with my sister just like in Borderlands). My father actually liked Black Ops and Modern Warfare campaigns because they feel like those action/thriller movies and TV series he likes to watch a lot (like 24 and all that good stuff, lol). I like them because they felt like a feel-good adventure, a good way to spend the time, like a popcorn movie. ^_^

Rewatching and studying the Brink videos is another great way to pass the time until Brink comes out. :)

I'm not really over hype for the game and in fact I'm going to be quite critical of it once I begin play. It sounds good and it is a game I've dreamed about playing and with the devs track record I believe it's got a good chance of delivering, but the game play is going to have't prove itself to me.
