overencumbrance

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:34 am

Hi there.
I've just started replaying Morrowind after a long while and wondered if there was any way, apart from dropping your items, to get rid of overencumbrance after being attacked. Any advice greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

You could use something with the feather effect or you could boost your strength.

Thanks HD. I'll try that.

...Or a couple of jugs of Flin or some other Fortify Strength potions.
There are also spells and potions to Restore Strengths.
None of these are hard to find.
You should unequip anything that Fortifies Strength before you use any of the above,

If your strength has been damaged, you can always go to a shrine to get it restored with Divine Intervention (scrolls, spell or amulet).

...but as I say, remove any Fortify Attribute items that you have equipped before you use a shrine or spell.
If you don't, the spell will only increase the attribute to your normal rating. If afterwards you remove say, the Fists of Randagulf, your strength will drop to 20 points below normal.

It's still a good idea to have the means to restore strength on the spot. Many players have been forced to drop most of not all their inventory just to be able to move at all. Some have still been stuck after dropping everything. The Interventions don't always put the player close enough to activate the shrine.

As long as your near the shrine and safe, you can always drop your stuff long enough to go restore yourself then just go pick it up again. However I do agree that you should always have some means to restore your strength and other attributes with you. Shrines are few and far between in many parts of Morrowind and it can be a real pain to have to use an intervention spell to go to the far side of the map. That has been a source of infinite frustration for me in the past. I like a spell that restores all attributes by 50 for 2 seconds or maybe 25 for 4 seconds or something like that. Just remember, as it's been said, you should always remove any enchantments or effects that fortify attributes before you restore them. It's just one of the little bugs in Morrowind. I think MCP fixes that but I'm not sure.

Offcourse it is. It's usually one of the first custom enchaned items I make once I have enough money. I hate bonewalkers just for their damaging my strength, because I am often near to overencumbrance while adventuring (I have trouble leaving any valuables behind even if I don't need it).
