Overheating Confirmed? (possible spoilers)

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 2:38 pm

***SPOILERS***

So looking at the recently released concept art, the page with the pipe rifle mods on the far right are descriptions of each mod type, and several of them mention reliability and overheating, could this be a replacement for weapon degradation where weapons now jam or overheat depending on quality or at random? thoughts?

For some reason I thought the title said overeating. Time to raid the fridge I think!

I would not think random, but like other games with a overheat mechanic, something that happens at a threshold.

How dare Bethesda add some Realism to the Weapons :D

One of My biggest issues with Fallout 3 and New Vegas was Weapon Degredation rates in both Games. I often play Mothership Zeta very early for Alien Epoxy in Fallout 3, and hoard WRK components in New Vegas.

I wouldn't consider anything presented in the concept art confirmed, but that's just semantics. I haven't seen any mention from a developer about overheating as a mechanic, so it's possible that it simply wasn't implemented, but the reverse could be just as true.

This would be a great trade-off for the lack of weapon condition and the advantage of range and power that guns have.

I dunno. Something makes me think that that was just concept art with ideas that they were shopping. The only one that mentioned overheating was the direct impingement gas system, and based on the crafting footage, crafting isn't that in-depth. Besides, they probably would have put in a reliability stat if they were to implement such a feature.

Consider the last time I read a article where someone asked Pete about item degrading he said "can't go into details at this moment" it feels like this could be a mechanic they decided to keep hush hush.

I noticed something about this back in July.

Here you go I talked about it.

Definitely. I started crafting WRKs from the very beginning and saved them for the late game. For the big fights in the end-game, I rocked a fully upgraded Gatling Laser with Max Charge ECPs, Yao Guai meat, Psycho, and Med-X. You can carve through anything in the game, but one full charge will take away a good chunk of the Gatling Laser's condition.

Thought that certain weapons we know that mingun does overheat based on video.

We don't know if other guns do though.

I think im going to miss the weapon repair mechanics, but if its replaced with something that does a good job of simulating reliable versus unreliable weapons and machines in the scavenger world of the wasteland then this looks pretty damn cool.

Overheating was also a mod for Fallout 3/NV, it was pretty neat. Was only really a factor under -heavy- sustained fire, but turning your gun into mush and having rounds cooking off was a great detail.

In addition to overheating, I feel that weapon jamming should be in the game as another trade-off for the lack of weapon condition now - the lower the quality of the receiver, the more easily it can jam maybe?

Don't rule out armor and weapons degradation yet.

Some pcgamer.com employees who went to Quakecon 2015 asked Pete Hines and Todd Howard about CND since Power Armor has Health.

Pete Hines said we won't be talking about those details yet and Todd Howard didn't really give any details.

The wording is in what Pete Hines said "we won't be talking about those details yet"

Bethesda Softworks and Bethesda Game Studios probably want us to see the armor and weapons degradation system ourselves how it functions in Fallout 4 once they release Fallout 4 for sale. For us to be surprised.

Yeah, I thought that was already confirmed with the minigun barrels getting red during E3 videos. Though it precisely doesn't make sense for that weapon and the whole reason for having that many barrels is a reduced RPM per barrel to prevent overheating.

Miniguns do overheat if you keep firing them.

Also Fallout 4 being set 200 years after the Nuclear bombs fell and society collapsed and the miniguns set outside not in a controlled environment or with oil like cosmoline oil the steel will rust, especially in rainy environments and snowy environments.

Also like the YouTube video Yan Templer showed.

The Minigun overheating might just be a visual effect, too.

I'd love if there was an overheating mechanic, but I can't say from the concept art that anything's confirmed.

In E3 combat RPM is more than games generally portray but still nowhere near a real minigun. It's a much lowered RPM. The real thing can go up to 10000RPM, that's an insane 166 bullets per second!

Not at the lowered setting we use in the game, in that short amount of time. The same can be said for any weapon: Heck, there are "pipe guns" that are literally made out of junk, we saw nothing else reddening in those videos. Even plasma casters, which should be the very definition of heating.

I bet they just made the guns powerful and thought of a gamey method to nerf them like tons of other games do. Make it require 10+ ST and make it have insane recoil etc if you want to nerf them. I just don't see how a non-power armored person can wield it anyway.

it is possible all of the other weapons in Fallout 4 overheat or jam.

Bethesda Game Studios is not going to spoil us and show every single feature Fallout 4 has.

I would be very happy if weapons finally do jam and overheat.

Yeaaahhh but I think it's for flavor in the game because it would freeze if it actually fired as fast as a real minigun.
