overhyped

They will not be optimizing code or bug crushing for the next 94 days, the game needs to start being shipped to retailers long before release, which means they can't alter the code anymore or test (or at least whatever they do alter can't be implemented without patches). At this point they can begin working on patches amongst other things.

I have no idea how long before release they start shipping the game, but I'm pretty sure it's at least a month.

and that path working will go towards day one patches of bugs they didnt catch before it prints, not shoehorn in features because some vocal groups opnion (assuming they even agreed to heed the opnion to begin with)

So any features that come post-release are shoehorned in then? Great logic, remember that when they add some new feature in a free patch or DLC that you personally are thrilled with, will you? Please? And when I say a voiced protagonist was shoehorned in in the first place, I mean into Bethesda games in general. Gotta placate those critics and the casual crowd, right?

Jesus you really have a problem with people wanting an optional alternative dialog system, don't you? Do you work as a voice actor or something, or have a family member/friend who does?

except DLC are planed, just like the main game, so they arent shoehorn in either.

And no I have nothing against them in that reguard, I do think devs shouid have some integrity and stand for there decistion, rather then be treated as slaves that should bend to every wants and shoulds given here.

It's a triple-a game, a Bethesda game no less, of course it is going to be overhyped.

Everything they put into the game is planned. And if you think none of the features they release in patches or DLC will be the result of fan demand you're incredibly naive. It's a really strange way of looking at it, you have, I would look at it as devs adding in two optionable dialog systems to keep the vast bulk of fans happy, as opposed to alienating a large minority in order to satisfy another large minority and potentially attract new fans to the franchise.

If they replaced the voiced protagonist entirely with a traditional dialog system, then I'd be more inclined to understand your position, but we're not talking about that happening.

Then you get exactly what you deserve for pre-ordering games in the first place.

I pre-ordered mine on X-Box One, and it looks like I'll be getting Fallout 3 as well.

I'm assuming it's just a direct port, nothing added or tweaked. Just Fallout 3 on the XB1.

Yeah, I guess I deserve that. :P Should've done the research first before I pre-ordered.

For some reason this thread reminds me of a joke Penny Arcade made about the PS3 player base.

"Attention PS3 minion- Bioshock Infinite will finally be released on the PS3. High Command wants to remind you that you are to remain cautiously skeptical about proceedings, and any and all expressions of excitement and genuine happiness are forbidden at any time."

Overhype is LITERALLY THE PROBLEM with EVERY game, ever, and it is a problem that will never go away.

Over hype?
Because they have put out soooooooo much info about this game, right? A game that people have been clamoring for, for years now.
I don't think this word means what you think it means.

I agree with this. I'm not seeing any "over-hype" here. Not yet, anyway.

Fans and media are begging for more information and Bethesda is giving little information. I hardly feel that is over hype. In fact if anything, it's a bit under most game announcements. It seems if they actually want fans to play the game to find out the details rather than feeding us details. And it's a good thing considering how the pipboy edition sold out so quickly. Pre-orders on Amazon have already put it on the best sellers list and it is still 2 months from release.

If there is any overhype it's from fans who are looking forward to the next Fallout game. Can't put that on Bethesda's head because all they have done is put out one video and done a few interviews with media in which not much information was shared.

I sort of hope they don't tell us much more on one hand, on the other I hope they will at least explain how skills and perks work.

There would have to be something absolutely DEVESTATING to "over"hype this game for me. Even with hopw little I've seen I know I'm going to love it and dump hundreds if not thousands of hours into it lol I'm pretty hyped

Could not disagree more, Voiced Protagonist will be fine and I like to be rewarded for Exploring. Going to a high level area, beating strong enemies and getting powerful loot is the dream and I'm glad to see Fallout 4 heading in that direction. I'm still concerned about Writing but we'll see. My hype is definitely over 9000, can't wait for Fallout 4 to come out 95 days to go.

I enjoyed reading this Pete Hines interview discussing 'limiting' the hype period.

  • GamesBeat: Fallout 4 was interesting because it’s shipping so soon compared to when you announced it. That time seems to be stretching out for a lot of games.
  • Hines: I jokingly have what I refer to as the rule of one E3, which isn’t really a joke. It has proven time and again to be a good rule. Any game should be at one and only one E3. More than that and you’re trying to talk about the game for too long. You’re trying to keep people’s attention for too long. It’s more time than you can maintain momentum, more time than you can fill with content. You’ll be sorry. In the case of Fallout 4, we felt the demand was so high that we’d be better served going shorter and having less time to fill, playing on the idea of immediacy. Again, that was part of the Shelter thing. We tend to lean toward shorter rather than longer campaigns, although DOOM is at the opposite end of that spectrum. id was talking about that title at QuakeCon seven years ago, before we even acquired them. It’s still being talked about. That’s a mistake I don’t want to repeat. I’d rather compress the time from “This thing exists!” to “Now you can play it!”

They've definitely been marketing the game differently than Skyrim!

I think it's because Fall Out is more predictable in what people will expect, much more of it is a reboot/sequel as opposed to new province, new terrain, different race of inhabitant being featured etc. We've got vaults, a nuked eastern USA city, and many of the usual suspects when it comes to the bad guys.... they've shown us that. So about all I would expect to see in the next 3 months is more info on the perks/special system, a bit more in game imagery in still frames , and 1 or 2 videos showing what was exclusive to the summer game convention presentations. I also think it's possible that at the later shows such as PaxPrime (Seattle) , BGS might let attendees play the game, which again ends up with the fans doing all the talking and being a part of the hype... They did this with Skyrim....

I can not agree with this statement. Even though it seems I am much more coherent when I am drinking just Tea.

And it may be overly optimistic but what if they indeed have a great rpg and are hiding the story elements on purpose just like they say. (I Agree with Summer I see no over hype, just people who are really dang happy were getting a fallout bout time hehe)
