[Relz] Overlooked Meshes Galore - OMG

Post » Tue Mar 08, 2011 1:34 pm

CS and non-BSA resources comes with the Morrowind Disk. Then with Tribunal and Bloodmoon the resources are on the relevant CDs.

I've made it easier for myself and copied the folders from all 3 disks into one resource folder on my computer - no more CD swapping :D

That's a good idea. I'll have to do that :) I hate swapping out my CD's all the time :P

:ahhh: It's madness, I tell you! Madness!

I wonder why Bethesda included unused meshes and textures in the final release of the finished product...?

Pretty normal really, either test objects that never got used, or something made and then forgot about.

I mean, they forgot (or didn't care) to remove nudity files in Oblivion's archives. :obliviongate: (I always wondered where this particular, errm, smilie/animated short would be applicable. :D)
Compared to that, Morrowind's leftovers are pretty harmless.

Hello,
I found this lovely curved staircase which I carefully retextured, then found it was impossible to climb.

It's usually rather easy to add collision to a mesh with Blender. If you want, you can send me your staircase mesh and I'll try to add a collision box to it. :)

Hey everyone! I have now made a new legal .esp of this :)

Here's what I did. I have now linked these meshes to the construction set without actually including the meshes themselves. However, some meshes had to be included, because the texture paths referenced textures which no longer exist. But since they are officially retextures it is OK. :D

So just activate the .esp and look at all the stuff marked with md_

There are new meshes in Activators, Statics (mostly here), Lights, Weapons, Miscellaneous (I think that's it, there might be more)

So check out the new file and tell me what you think!

What kind of weapons? I'm already aware of the unused crossbow and the Azura's Star throwing weapon. Oh, and the steel throwing knife (but that is fixed by the UUMP). Anything else you recall, since only those sorts of meshes (weapons, armor) are the ones I'm focused on at the moment. Oh, and clothing, maybe.

As copyright holders it is up to Bethesda as to what form redistribution of their copyrighted materials is acceptable either in full or in part.
They will likely allow redistribution of their materials if it benefits them in some way, eg if you include retextured models in your mod they will probably allow or even encourage it as additional content increases the shelf life of their games. If redistribution of their copyrighted materials contstitutes piracy and/or likely to harm their business then they will likely intervene and put a stop to it. Your mod sounds like the former case of being likely to increase the shelf life of MW which is not the same as unlicensed selling of their stuff nor harm their business and therefore likely that Bethesda would not object. IMHO

Exactly.

There are numerous mods that include retextured meshes, and if Bethesda didn't like it, they would have done something about it by now I'm sure.

In-particular the models that you actually DID retexture (even if the new textures are also from the vanilla game), would qualify as a significant enough modification that it should be allowable.

The fact of the matter is that people need to own MW anyway to use these files (unless you're some weird sort of person who downloads MW meshes just to look at them in NIFSkope or something). It WOULD be illegal and disallowed if you were porting these unused meshes to Oblivion or Fallout 3, but as it stands you are not, and this should be allowed.

If you heard your information from a moderator/administrator of TESNexus, then it is merely against their policy. PES may be more lenient. Right now though it looks like it's still up on Nexus and if it's just some random troll telling you it's not allowed, ignore him/her.

Of course, if you'd rather just play it absolutely safe, you can just go ahead and make a list and maybe include some recommended textures to use as starting points when the textures do not exist.

Edit: Oh, looks like you may have already made the change and uploaded it to Nexus, and that's why it's there...

Also, I should mention I think someone may have done something like this before-I can't quite remember...

No, I meant someone might have made a mod before that was a compilation of unused meshes from the CS CD.

Not that I'm aware of. I've been around a lot longer then my joining date here suggests and never even seen someone post a list of all the unuesed meshes let alone release a mod anywhere for them.

Thanks for this Melchior. This will definetely come in handy. :goodjob:

:hugs: Don't take it hard, MA. We modders have to have a tough skin and be prepared for stupid comments. When I think of what Alien Slof went through, I am sometimes thankful when I get no comments on my mods. :P

Lol, i am trying not to. ITs just when i explained the diffrence she said "it was my nice way of saying..." then goes on to say that it was rude of me to release a mod, completly ignoring my previous comment. Since when has it been a very rude thing to release a mod?

Well Midgetalien showed the spears for one... I can't remember how many other's there were other than the crossbow and bolt.

Thanks me too!

I had no idea if this had been done before for sure.... but I was PRETTY sure it hadn't. Besides it's modding, we rip each other off all the time. Right? Nah I kid... or do I? :ninja:

Hmmm, never saw that before, thanks! The odds that I actually got everything into this mod are very, VERY low. Hey, I'm only human.

Nope, don't mind at all. This is after all a resource. And what you did is EXActly what I was hoping was going to be the result of this release :D

Brilliant!

Who want's to put money on how long it will take before someone will add cots to a tent/bedroll buying mod. I personally would love them for slightly more permanent camps. That arch is also amazing.

I think I have see the platform before. I can't remember which mod it was in. However I think that style should be utilized. have we seen a full tree village yet.
