Overpowered Dual-Wield

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 10:43 am

I'm used to seeing Overpowered in a multiplayer game...but i dont see how something can be overpowered in a single player game? I mean, it doesn't affect you directly does it? :S

If it does not bother you, feel free to walk away. It is a balance issue and I've my right to report to Bethesda with a constructive thread.

You don't get %100 more damage, faster, less stamina consuming power attack with twice enchantments, just because of you can't block.

Blocking in 2 handed is not even half in terms of blocking power compared to 1H shield, why give up so much damage for just being able to half arsed blocking?

Answer the question.. And do you really expect not to get hurt hiding behind an iron fence verse a large plate of iron?

I didnt say you didnt have the right, and im not saying i agree/disagree. I just dont understand it.

plus if anything, i would say dual weild would be better with a parry than a block.

It makes sense, I don't find it unusual, but they should be able to give one handed block, and limit their unfair damage.

You know I can list at least 5 sensible animation about how to block with one handed. Some to the same degree of 2 H.

It still does vastly more than 2 handed power attack, and 2 Handed power attack is really slow, heavy, leaves you open for alot of time, and conserves most of your stamina!

In my opinion, blocking with one handed weapon makes sense. And they should be able to do swing multiple enemies, with only difference being shorter reach than 2 handed. Give them block, give them 1H weaker enchanments(really unfair.), and give them offhand penalty(and fix main hand for lefties).

How high is your block skill? This is an RPG and not a pure action game. If you have low block skill and no perks taken then yes, blocking will not do much for you.

You have to get past the animations a bit - like the guy who said please make my enemies die if they have an arrow sticking out of their head. Well, if you hit him in the head but have low marksman, you're not going to kill him (my own $.02 is that Bethesda should not make the arrow stick in the target if it didn't cause much damage)

Keep complaining. Who knows, maybe TES VI will eliminate stats altogether. The we can have CoD with swords :(.

Stop worrying about balance and just RP a character. Change the difficulty to fit your needs

Well, sorry If I seemed abit aggressive. Also you know, I'm just making humble suggestions, I'm sure Bethesda can find better ways to do it. It just feels broken after I played with dual wield.

Do you guys play on novice or something, you don't block with a 2hander, you use the bash which cancels the attack and allows for 0 damage, and you only use it as last resort, otherwise you just stay out of reach or stagger with a power attack. The problem with dual wield is that short reach+ no bash makes it tough to never get hit, and on master difficulty many enemies hit like trucks, not saying it's underpowered, don't get me wrong but it's more balance than what you claim. I'm sure it's great once your are high level or got fancy armors but most of the game is done without this kind of stuff.

The only reason dual wield is OP is because followers are way too good and just tank for you while you spam power attack.

There is no such thing as balance in a single player game. The whole term balance, as it relates to video games, came about due to multiplayer.

I've no problem with difficulty. It just feels broken after I saw that DW is capable of.

I use DW and it doesn't seem that powerful to me. Lacking a block mechanic I routinely have to drink health potions in order to get through moderately difficult fights. My bow does more damage than DW does for my build

You know, I'm playing 2handed without blocking(or whatever you call it) I can easily avoid with 2handed, if I can, dual wielders can do more.

I'll keep it brief in case you didn't read: They have vastly more damaging, faster, less stamina consuming power attack, and able to wield 2x enchantment of same power.

2 Handed is heavy, slow, you're [censored] if you missed with power attack, when you compare my first dragon kill with 2H and Dual Wield, it's just ridiculous.

I don't know you, but I don't play a class just because it feels powerful compared to others. I play 2 handed heavy weight warrior in any RPG, that's just my style, and when it feels weak, I report to responsible developers.

2handed has longer reach, of course it's easy to never get hit with a 2hander, that's exactly what I said. But why would it be easier to not get hit with dual wielding ? And of course dual wield deals more damage and will kill an enemies that is not fighting back (dragon) faster, that's not the point.

Longer reach evens out with they're being to be able to more versatile(Missing with 2 H is really bad situation)

Also dragon's do fight back, you can outmanuiver them easily with dual wield because you're not as slow in terms of dealing damage.

I make sense, you don't see it.

No you don't, the argument is that 2handers compensate with extra survivability. You have yet to tell me how a shorter reach with no bash "can do more" for using your own terms, as far as never getting hit goes.

and dragons are a total joke in this game. Also, it's a totally atypical fight that has nothing to do with how the combat system normally works.

Two handed attack swings are slower power attacks of it is worse, thus you need a stable enemy to hit efficiently, dragon lands on ground, he not going to stand there all the time.

Scenario with 2 Handed: You hit from sides, He turns his face to you, you need to move again, but your attack is still in process.

Scenario with 1 handed: Hit from sides since you're fast in terms of putting out damage, you can move and avoid his face/claws.

That makes up for having long reach, as I said it evens out.

ofcourse there is
if there's multiple playstyles each should be equally viable to some degree (there's always going to be differences)
if something is so underpowered to the point of become obsolete they did something wrong balance wise

also personally I don't like too much meta gaming
if you have to resort to a certain weapon or style because yours isn't viable or it is the most powerfull
again there's something wrong balance wise

as for this specific matter, haven't really played with 2h weapons since my 2handed stats svck
haven't tried dual wield either
though I never thought about dual enchantments being such a powerful factor (stupid me, kind of obvious)
perhaps I should give it a try sometime
makes me wonder now, if I dual wield a sword and axe and have both perks (decapitation and bleed damage for example) from the 1 handed skill tree will they both work as well?
because that could be a really powerful combination

You can take 1 sword for extra crit and 1 mace for armor ignoring, but their bonuses will only apply to those weapons, not total.

Sword's extra crit won't apply to Mace. Mace's armor ignoring won't apply to sword.

Also I won't change my playstyle, I'm just reporting an issue, but alot of people doesn't like what am I doing here.

Those who think direct opposite of me, play 2 Handed and Dual Wield after it, you'll notice game is easier with Dual Wield.

Game is great, I like it very much, but if only bethesda could do fix for these issues, based on my observations on Oblivion it going to take a while or not at all :(
