Overpowered Weapons Game Balance

Post » Fri Feb 12, 2016 10:23 am

I don't know how everyone else feels about this but I've been seeing an issue with OP weapons.

Finally been doing a survival play through(at lol 20 right now) and struggled a tad for the first few levels. Then I got an explosive double barrel shotgun drop. Everything changed - nearly everything died in 1 shot. Legendaries 2-3. And past that got overseers guardian and now the game is an absolute cake walk.

I bought/modded overseers guardian. While the explosive double barrel was nice it did have to be reloaded frequently and did't have all that much range. Overseers guardian? - pfft, you can shoot anything and everything all day from whatever range you mod it for. Also, .45 ammo is cheap enough and easy enough to come by. Use it in VATS = broken game.

I had crit banker/better Crits but just didn't even bother with it. I also got 2 ranks of demo expert, and again just quit using it. Hardly ever need to bother with it.

So my issue is this, I sank all these perk points into a combat system (2x demo expert, 2xcrit banker, 2x Better critical) and I hardly even use it. I do still use mines against mirelurks but everything else wilts before overseers guardian. Honestly, you get the right weapons you don't even need to worry about damage perks. I feel like I wasted those perk points that could've been spent elsewhere.

I know Bethesda doesn't have a history of rebalancing their games, but some specific weapons/weapon affixes are deluding the game experience because they are just vastly better. I know I could use other weapons but why do I have to gimp myself? As a gamer the key is always to find the best gear and use it as efficiently as possible - the 'reward' for doing so in this game is way too good. There still needs to be an element of challenge to it.

Maybe the game will get harder? But I know how these games go - as you level up you get more and more out of balance with the game world. I'm at level 20 and feel like nothing can touch me. :/

Things to consider, you're only level 20, the game will get harder and enemies will become bigger bullet spunges, i myself haven't had the luck of pulling any really good legendary weapons yet, so the exploding shotgun must be a nice one. But I will say I'm level 55 and just barely completed the main quest, barely touched the lower half of the map, am getting to work on that soon. That being said, just keep going, that shotguns usefulness will fade eventually, i have come across some monsters that can survive 2-3 blasts of my bleeding combat shotgun. It will come, just blow through the easy parts of the game when you get further south and west you will see some more difficulty.

FO4 will get never harder as you progress and increase your own level normally.

Only way to keep it HARD is to avoid damage related perks entirely in very hard difficulty.

If you invest heavily in critical & damage related perks... the game will be easy no matter what especially when u use sneak attack.

FO4 is not designed to be challenging as you progress.

It is actually heavily designed to make things easier as you continue to play the game on purpose because it is single player RPG where you start weak novice and becomes invincible hero.

Fantasy "legendary" weapons can be OP. They feel so out of place that I simply refuse to use them. I only ever use normal weapons. Same for armors.

sounds like you got your cake, ate it, and now regret it tasted so good? :)

OG is the best weapon in the game. I love it's OP-ness!

- if u feel u are powerful reduce you're health to around 400-500

- i don't use explosive weapons , they take away from realism ... can't wait for the geck

I do not bother using legendary weapons on survivor difficulty, currently level 82.

The game has been somewhat easy up until around level 72 (at least in my game) on survivor difficulty. Up until then I was simply relying on a 10mm pistol, .38 / .45 pipe rifle / sniper. I didn't actually did not bother to switch to combat rifles until Super Mutant Warlords, and the Annihilator Sentry Bot Mk II started to appear in the game. At least now the game is somewhat challenging... sometimes...

Oh, and I suppose Super Mutants will become a bit easier to kill once I decide to make Danse a companion and max out his affinity...

I got the explosive combat shotgun and named her Esmerelda. She's the fricking love of my life but you know sometimes people need a break. So every once in a while, I'll leave her behind and have some fun with my other ladies... but I always, eventually go back for my love.

Take a break from those guns man. Just use something else for a little while. Then whip out the OP stuff when you're ready to curb-stomp everything again.

Furious Ripper and Flamer, Explosive Combat shotgun and Minigun, Two Shot Gauss and Fatman, Instigating Missle Launcher and Gauss all say hi and challenge the Overseers gaurdian to a fight. As far as best vendor sold Legendary weapons go, the best is the Spray and Pray with demolition expert and commando perks maxed.

Any system of randomly coupling weapon s with perks is going to give you drastically different power. Still looking for an Irradiating ripper.

I believe Furious Flamer is impossible to obtain in normal play...

I would say Overseer guardian is just mediocre weapon now since McCready glitch is fixed.

Not that great in anyway from my experience.. just good at killing helpless settlers in cross fire...

yeah, I'd just start limiting yourself to pipe and melee weapons only, no legendary, etc. I play on very hard and just about anything that I mod is automatically OP'd. I leave most of the good stuff at home, but I hang on to Big Boy because it's just so much fun.

At the end of the day (unless you farm legendary) suppose it's all down to luck since on my recent lv 62 character the best legendary weapons I've found (not including ones you can buy) were plasma fused assault rifle and an irradiating ripper but on the other hand I've gotten almost full sets of most of the legendary armour sets :D

You might think this game is easy with the explosive Boomstick but one you're next character you might not get one or instead end up with useless/pointless legendary like an Junkie's fatman :chaos:

I noticed the same issue ^^

I'm only wearing light leather armor at rank ~15-20 and each time you get hit, you lose most of your health and can die very quickly, but...

the Overseer's Guardian is way too strong :/ it gets rid of everything so quickly... Legendary Super Mutant Skirmishers die after 4-5 shots at rank 17

the game would be way more challenging without the 'two-shot' legendary feature... it adds nothing to the game, is not realistic and completely breaks any game balance

I purposely don't use overseer's guardian because of that, but I like the sound of your double barrel. Very jealous. I have a 2 shot that I love.

If you're already playing on survival I would just suggest not using weapons you feel take the edge off of combat. You probably don't need any advice though. Venting is theraqeutic. :]

I never expected real challenging from FO series...

Honestly FO4 is not that easy if you start on survival and play without any information from the beginning..

Unless of course, you run into some really really lucky legendary drop.

It would be more problematic if the game stays hard after Investing heavy in sneak & other damage perks to power yourself up.

If I need challenge I`d go play game like hardcoe dead space or ninja gaiden...

.. and all those online FPS games. You will always find someone better than you to place one in your head.
