Overrated/Underrated games of 2010

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 5:49 am

Sure alota candidates but not any that come close to Black Ops. RDR diddnt bring anything new except a new GTA with a cowboy scene.

RDR multiplayer has nothing on Black Ops.

And, Fallout 3 was Oblivion with guns. They did it and it worked. It just is what it is. Mabey I'm dumb, I can't see why it got GOTY

Right I am not oing to bother with RDR if its just "GTA with cowboys" and fallout is "oblivion with guns"

Nothing close to blops ? Halo reach has forge, and a game option "community" where you play uploaded community made maps. Blops had done nothing but recycle the same [censored], and hop [censored] keep buying the game and hyping it. You may aswell jsut Sell MW then buy it back for £40 every year.
A game dosent deserve to be GoTY if its the same thing as last year, it didnt win then, nothing changed, it shouldnt win now. Ever.

I love how you say you hate steam and gearbox butseem to love activision. You know the cancer killing gaming strangleing originality, letting things stagnate before moving on to kill another game.

had a good story, wasnt great, but was good enough. Then there is the multiplayer. Bringing together people from all over the world to play together, competitively and cooperatively. Smooth game, nice controls, good maps, good matchmaking/custom matches. Sure, its the same old ish, guns, running around, shooting, but people are still playing it, online, offline, together, with friends, with random people. That's what makes it a great game. It not getting GOTY is very.. retarted imo.

Congratulations you just described every online FPS ever. You make it sound like Call of Duty invented online play "Bringing together people from all over the world to play together" that's not something unique to any game it's actually mandatory that applies for it to be an online game. I also don't like games being rated mostly on online play, a good multiplayer is usually an excuse for the company to justify the game's [censored] single player mode.

I dunno, I dont see what is so original? Putting cowboys in a GTA game

Oh, nothing. A browser hiccup made it look as though you were complaining abut a lack of originality in Red Dead, and then going on to list all of that about Black Ops. Out of context it was a pretty good laugh, but when I refreshed and saw the quote it didn't really apply. Carry on.

Can someone please give me an accurate measurement of Final Fantasy XIII? I can't decide on whether I should get it or not with all these conflicting reviews. Some people say it's overrated, some say underrated, some don't say anything, and it's all very confusing.

That's the case of every single Final Fantasy in existence.

If the first day sales/first week sales/general sales of the new COD game this year stomps all over Black Ops records, Black Ops deserves 2010 GOTY.

So what bieber should be considered some musical god because he has so many fans ?

Sales =/= quality of product.

It just shows you have a good marketing and a fanbase who dont realise they are buying the same damn thing or dont care.
To think sales = quality is just stupid.

Overrated:
Black Ops (good storyline, the same old multiplayer with some added features. hopefully something new next time...)
Red Dead Redemption (good storyline, not so good gameplay)
Mass Effect 2 (it's cool at first, but it gets boring at the end. I liked the storyline though)

Underrated:
Fallout: New Vegas
Bioshock 2 (I have no idea, but I kind of liked it.)

Its hard to sell the same game over and over. Imagine if RDR2 came out this year, I wonder how well it would do. I dont think they could afford it.

As much as I dislike Activision.. Black Ops is a really good product, its excellent, good replay value, large community, good enough to play through the whole year till they come out with a next one or they flop on the next one. I wasnt a fan of it, but when I say those gameplay vids and started watching more of MW and MW2 gameplay vids, it only made sense that it was a must own/must play. Video Games = Fun, Fun = GOTY

*looks at CoD* Noits proven you can sell the same thing over.

Fire veryone from old studio after complaining about work hours/pay
Get other team to resking
hype
?????
Profit

Activision is pathetic, 5 devs iirc all reskinning MW3, enjoy wasting $40 next year, then the next, then the next, then the next...

Its not a good product when its the same.

A game should be fun, but Blops hasnt changed, it shouldnt be awarded for stagnating. You dont look and say "yeah its good we will leave it at that" you make it better, unless your bobby kotick you just milk it till it dies then move on to the next game.

Point is you dont reward a game for staying the same.

Underrated:
Alpha Protocol - it's buggy and unbalanced, but looking beyond that, it's very fun, and I love the conversation system

Agreed. I actually haven't experienced any bugs in my first playthrough. And while the level design had some issues (being unable to jump except at special interaction points was very annoying when you had to walk around some things for no good reason.) and the stealth svcked I had a lot of fun with it.

Anyway.

Overrated = COD Black Ops - most "on-rails" game I've played since Star Wars: Rebel Assault back in the 90's

Underrated = Drakensang: Am Fluss der Zeit - an excellent german rpg similar to Dragon Age in gameplay but far more challenging and with very strong art direction. From a developer now sadly demised, it went seemingly unnoticed, possibly due to poor marketing in non EU countries.

Hugely overrated:
Call of duty: Black Ops
Mass Effect 2
Red Dead Redemption (this one the least of the bunch, but nonetheless)

Underrated:
Alpha Protocol
Fallout: New Vegas
(incidentally both are Obsidian games)

BLOPS as GOTY? THe campagin was nothing special and zombies is fun but really nothingground breaking. Online the game would be great if it were not for the terrible lag and servers.Still nothing about it is worthy of GOTY.

If my mate didn't tell me I was playing Black Ops, I would have thought I was playing #Generic COD lol. They all look the same to me.

Overrated
Mass Effect 2 - Yes, I enjoyed the game a lot, but I think people went a bit overboard with heaping praise on it. It was a nice refinement of ME1, but I still think there is room for plenty of improvement.

Underrated
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - Yeah, it got pretty good reviews and all, but I find it gets overshadowed by CoD a lot. Personally, I think BC2 was far and away the best multiplayer game of the year. I'm still playing it.

Those are my two picks.

Overrated:Black Ops, Reach is a much more well rounded game. The servers for BLOPS are just plain bad.

Underrated:Halo Reach:Yea it had plenty of praise but honestly I thought it was the best of the series.Fallout New Vegas, people overreacted to the glitches.Yes there where some problems but once you got past them it was a very good game.

Oh, can't agree with that last one. I always liked the 99 version, but as far as the new game goes I couldn't even get 5 minutes into the trial without giving up.

Guys, Borderlands is 2009 not 2010....

Underrated:
Resonance of Fate (seriously went under the radar)

Overrated:
Gran Turismo 5 (not that it's terrible, but all the hype about the graphics was stupid)

It's main problem is linearity, as has been said many times and for a good reason, only the last two chapters are areas that are not practically corridors, but they are pretty huge. Unlike in X and XII that also applies to character progression, there is some decision making involved, but overall it's very linear. Also it has no towns, all shopping is done at save points. Sidequests are non-existent, save for mark hunting in the next to last area akin to FFXII, with ridiculously powerful superbosses as is Final Fantasy tradition.

Eidolons for a change are useful, the system is close to XII, though at the end you get to whack enemies unchallenged. Many people dislike their "Transformers" design, though (literally, Shiva turns into a motorcycle :D).

As for characters and storyline, not especially good, not especially bad. It's battle system, (most of the) music and battlemusic i very much like, many don't however. As a summary of FFXIII: i don't feel ripped off (though nearly every game i've ever played has achieved this rating :D).

I'd say rent it if possible to see if you can live with the battle system (though it takes looooong while to get full battle system open) or buy it for money that you wouldn't lose sleep over if you burned it :hehe:

I feel it is underrated, IMO it's not as bad as some people make i out to be. And i think some people are overrating New Vegas a bit (i'm not talking about reviewers).

Which Black Ops had. :P Red Dead, on the other hand, had a strong single player and a strong multiplayer.

Dunno if all these are 2010 games but whatever.

Overrated:
Read Dead Redemption (even though I quite enjoyed it),
CoD: Black Ops,
Mass Effect 2,
Heavy Rain,
Whatever Halo game launched in '10, its same as CoD imo, nothing but overrated/hyped beyond belief.
Fable 3,
WoW (2010 updates! Loophole ftw!)

Underrated:
Alpha Protocol,
Divinity 2: Ego Draconis/Dragonknight Saga,
Final Fantasy 13, horribly linear to a staggering degree but, amazingly, the characters and more importantly the way in which the player gradually learns about them was awesome.
MAG (a PS3 only, online only FPS),
Just Cause 2
