Overuse of Dragonshouts

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 6:53 am

So... Health makes you think twice about walking into the thick of things where many things will hurt you.

Stamina prevents you from swinging that big ol' sword all willy-nilly like some berserker.

Magicka prevents you from flinging fireballs ad lightning bolts left and right with reckless magimaniacal abandon.

So what prevents you from yelling FUS-RO-DAH at every mook who so much as looks at you wrong?

I would assume that there will be a lengthy cooldown time for the Dragon Shouts, at least I hope so

Presumably, from what we've heard, it knocks everyone around you onto their butts.

But anyhoo, what's the energy source for Dragonshouts?

Hmmm, good point, i think there is going to be a limit as to the 'shouting per minute', at least i hope so.

i would like to see a cool down that is related to the shout. the stronger the shout the longer the cool down.

Well how much do you think you can yell without needing to take a breath?

I would say make them like Greater Powers. 1 time per day. Hell you get like 20, by endgame you can probably destroy all the mudcrabs on Nirn without having to use the same one twice.

I thought it was Fus Ro Dah and I think there will be a cool down time for each shout

I'd agree there's probably a cooldown time for them or something like that. I can't see Bethesda giving the players such strong powers and not limiting them in some way.

That would make sense, it should also depend on what kind of shout it is, I think.

I hope each one has a different cool down. If I can only do the localized teleportation once a day that will be annoying. Teleporting around in combat could be pretty cool. But if some of the less empowering shouts had like a 5 - 10 second cool down and the more powerful ones with a 5 - 10 minute cool down, that'd be good.

1) It's Fus Ro Dah.
2) I think a cooldown was mentioned by GameInformer or in one of the magazines.

...i think you mean FUS RO DAH... i dont recall there being a "FUS RO DAN".

anyway, im pretty sure they require a special energy to use, as well... i dont think bethesda would give us unlimited power like that.

we'll probably need to kill dragons to replenish the power... or something.

No.

Greater powers are dumb. You generally forget that you even have them. 1 minute cooldown is far better.

Well I would think Dragonshouts run off Magika. And a ton of it.

They're supposed to be emergency weapons. 1 minute is nothing. That's 48 times a day it can be used, which I reckon is much overpowered. Around half a day to a day is a better cooldown, similar to greater powers, since they'd be a lot mroe useful, especially once you get many of them.

So how long should the cooldown be on the rumored dragon summon shout?

There is a cool down time and if its too short, a mod will make a better length.

So you want dragon shouts, the main power of the dragon born, to be only used once per day?

He'll no. To be fair, how about a 5 min cooldown? That's reasonable.

Greater Powers, as a previous poster said, get forgotten and underused. They suffer from the "ooh i want to use it now, but what if I really NEED it later!" Two months later in game, it hasnt been used once.

Someone else mentioned another energy bar - that would be replenished by killing dragons. Imo that's a terrible idea, it'd lead to more procrastinatory stockpiling than the greater power idea!
Now, it would work if it regenerated slowly by itself, like magicka but slower.

Here's how I would implement them. Each shout has a cooldown of 5 minutes, with a global cooldown of one minute. The summon dragon one and other extreme shouts could be 15-30 minutes of cooldown.
