OWB Micro Review

Positives: Loved the scientist characters and the location. The new item and NPC additions were interesting. Voice acting was generally very good. As many have noted, the sense of humor is excellent here.

Negatives: Exploration of the area was unsatisfying because there was very little of interest to find. Plenty of the usual ammo and useless misc items (plungers, ash trays, etc., etc.), but few instances of story-expanding holodisks, computer terminals, or random NPC conversations. Too many cases of finding something that *looks* like it should be really important or revelatory, only to find it's not (e.g. the village model at the weather testing station). [This is an area where I think New Vegas overall feels weak compared to FO3.]

For shame: The usual technical problems.

This DLC is *so* close to being amongst the best additions to the Fallout universe. As it is, it falls short of that. I think another few months spent filling-out the locations in Big MT would've made a big difference.

[Voice acting was generally very good.

It ranged from quite good to quite terrible, IMO. I thought the Think Tank voice acting was terrific, especially Dala. Roger Cross (Ulysses) on the other hand, nearly put me to sleep. Veronica Belmont is not a trained voice actor and boy, is it easy to tell.

Spoiler
The holotape found in the medical building where Christine was held captive is particularly terrible. The bit where she's meant to be reacting to the sound of an explosion doesn't at all sound like someone actually reacting to an explosion. It sounds like someone reading from a script.

I'll have to go back to check for specific examples, but the one that consistently grated on me was The Sink's toaster. That just came off as so... forced.

Some people are incredibly cool under stressful situation, you would perhaps expect someone sent to track down and kill FE on there own away from the BOS safety to have some of this type of quality especially if they had resigned them selves to death given they were imprisoned, also if imprisoned an explosion in order to get in the building is more likely to be rescue than your capture simply forgetting there keys and needing to get in to kill you!

Fair enough, but I wasn't expecting her to wail like a schoolgirl. Anyone, regardless of how cool under pressure or brave they might be, can be momentarily startled (unless they're heavily medicated, I suppose) but then immediately compose themselves.

Her delivery just wasn't very good. It sounded like she was reading lines, which she was, but it isn't supposed to sound like that.

I absolutely hated the voice acting of the Light Switches. They don't sound like they were meant to be there. The SCIU and BRS and Jukebox however were very well done.

I have not found one holotape of either Christine, Ulysses or Elijah. None. Absolutely none! I naturally think there may be a Ulysses tape in buildings marked with the Old World Flag. I have been wrong so far. Nothing. Where are they? It seems as if people are being lazy with the Wiki when it comes to OWB. Every wiki page on OWB is little stub.

EDIT: It's a bit off topic, but the voice acting for Vera Keyes was absolutely beautiful. I fell in love with that voice actor's voice.

One holotape can be found in one of the cages of the Y-17 Medical Facility. Another two can be found at Ulysses Point. Inside the cave. Elijah has a journal note but not a holotape.
