Own a house in ESO !?!

Post » Thu Mar 06, 2014 11:17 am

I thought that I should start a topic on this house issue. In the last beta stress test there was this guy in the zone chat and I have a reason to beleive he was from ZOS. He was helpful and answered a ton of questions. All he said from this apartment thing was that they do get a LOT of feedback in this matter.

I would not mind getting a small tent in the slum of some town.. As long as it is mine.

What do you think?

You can't own a house! Houses are people too!

i think it would be completely fabultastic, if we could have anything from that small tent in the slum, to a cabin on a mountain, to a house in a city, and maybe even a spooky mansion hidden out in a swamp

i would love to have a house!

especially if i could decorate it,

and not to be that person, but the housing in skyrim was kind of limited when it came to making your own... there was a limit to what you could do, and all of the items already had a pre-determined place -i wanna put my bookshelves just a little closer to the door, i wanna put my bed in the middle of the room, i wanna fill the floor with bottles and wade through them to get to the stove, where i store my books!

-or something along those lines, people get the idea?

it would be nice with a "home", maybe a garden again to grow things, but also with the option to customize your home a little more-

like the design of the windows,

if you want a bear- wolf- or kahjit pelt lying on your floor, you can pick one or all three of them

coloring your house and your walls, decide if you want a wood or stone floor,

maybe not making an in-game replica of the sims or anything, but give us some freedom

i know that i, for one, would try to replicate apocrypha, or at least some murky wizard's stove with books high and low and everywhere,

They could put 20 or so houses in Cyrodiil and allow you to keep one for as long as you can keep other players from running you out.

Rumor around the PTS is that Paul Sage loves housing. LOVES it.

We'll see it eventually, I think.

You need to lighten up a bit. This game is seriously almost entirely dedicated to PvE, and there is a single zone for PvP.

The big bad monsters will be in their box not able to hurt you, don't worry.

Maybe but will they have houses of ill repute? My Orc wants to be a bouncer.

How would you implement player housing so that it is instanced to each player while still allowing friends or others access to your house? You obviously cannot have a skyscraqer or unique plot of land dedicated to housing for everyone.

Also, where would you put this housing? You can't put it in Cyrodiil for safety reasons otherwise you have gankers camping around it all day. If you place it in a zone, what happens when a player reaches a new zone, such as going from Auridon to Grahtwood?

I like the idea of player housing but the implementation mechanics for an MMO are tricky.

I'd really like this, mostly for flavor reasons but also as a money sink.

An inn where you can buy/rent a room and then tier the housing up from there, eventually guild halls as well. Not sure if it will happen but it would be nice. Also be nice if it had extra space, or a bank, or if those were options you could buy for your place.

I think it would be interesting but what would be the real reason to? Don't get me wrong I'd love to own a house in like Auridon or Alinor but I don't need safe containers because I have a bank and I don't need a sleeping bonus because well... characters only sleep through emotes. I'm just saying that if I did own a house in ESO I'd probably never go there.

hm- i think it could be "something" to have a moveable tent,

the tent would develope into a "campsite", to which you might be able to quicktravel-

and you would have a cooking pot and a bedroll, these items would be included in the "tent"-set, and you can pack and unpack this through an interaction-option "campsite"

it wouldn't take up too much space, and the limitation could be that you must be a minimum distance from another campsite in order to set up your own,

though i don't see what much use it would have, save for the cooking pot and that,

-to solve a housing issue, i kind of think back to runescape, where people can build their houses in a "dimensional space", accessible through a portal,

by limiting the access to just "friends" on that person's list, i think it could solve possible griefing problems

on the other hand, no one who's not on your friendlist can visit your home,

-homes in general feels like a kind of; bragging rights/ storage area

and i know if i got a bragging right, i wanna brag~

i would like to see it if it is done right, but first I would rather see a good launch and the bug fixing to continue along with new content.

Then after a few years maybe add housing then.

Actually Cyrodill is so empty that could make place for 000's of houses.

yeaaaaah lets put the player housing inside the pvp zone so that unwary pve players can be ganked coming to or leaving their homes.....ummm how about no thank you? My idea for housing? simple put in a hearthfire style system where you have 3 zones in game or so that are housingable and let players build their homes in that area or allow us to buy a ranger cabinish looking home and allow ranger cabins to be placed about in the world

I thought about housing in Cyrodil and had some sudden nostalgia back to the UO days where people would wait outside of your house for you to leave and then gank you lol. So I doubt that would work.

I think the only way to have housing in this game would be to have a separate zone or island for it. It doesn't need to be instanced but make it it's own area.

Agreed. I am a huge fan of PvE but without any PvP zones I would walk away from this game. Most players want a bit of everything in their games but they are not vocal about it like those who only enjoy 1 or 2 aspects.

Player housing can have a number of advantages for a player, including: safe storage containers separate from the bank (lacks the convenience, costs less, but still provides more collection room); mannequins to display armor, and display cases for weapons/jewelry; miniature wayshrines to allow you to warp directly to your house; shrines to aedra/daedra for short bonuses; crafting tables for private crafting; display options for in-game achievements; social areas for RP; a bed to sleep in for a temporary bonus.

Implementation can come in several forms, including: spawning one or two houses per city/town to have 'one door, infinite addresses' system of EverQuest 2, whereas a simple menu allows you to visit your own home or any other home made public to visit, including friends (past districts can be revisited, but there would need to be 'quest complete' and 'rebuild city' options); the 'one gate, infinite neighborhoods' approach of DAoC and LotR, provinding a set number of housing and guild house options in a peaceful instanced neighborhood, and players having to know their instance to go home; or the 'open world' option of SWG, which isn't terribly feasible in this game, letting players place houses wherever there is an open space for them.

And of course, instead of purchasing houses outright, the major NPC Guilds as well as player guilds could offer free 'rooms' in their guild hall for players, that included far less options but still gave new players a place to stay and maybe one extra chest to store things in.

Housing in this game is no less or more important than player houses in all the other Elder Scrolls game.

I have no idea how this housing could be done in MMO but as an example, in World of Warcraft there will be houses available for the players in the next upcoming patch. I could not say if this can be compared to the ESO and I am totally unaware of the huge work there must be. The extra storage space could be used to keep your crafting materials, potions and such items.
