Own/Operate an Inn or Shop

I really like this idea and i think it would bring a unique concept to Skyrim. Investing in a shop, goods, employees and improvements of these; would allow you alot of things to do with all your gold.

Yeah I like the idea of hiring employees / guards and then outfitting them. Just something else to do in between exploration/dungeon diving.

Stuff like this would be awesome, such as running your own faction where you can actually control it, building buildings, combining the 2 to make a shop! It would be awesome.

Doubt very much we'll see it. Its something for an indie game, Bethesda wouldn't waste the resources because it would be too difficult and the perceived value is lower than the cost.

Not necessarily. The mod I mentioned for morrowind did this exceptionally well. You hire employees change their inventory collect gold and stock merchandise.

It's inevitable that I will accumulate a large sum of gold. It work be nice to be able to invest it in a shop or some venture.

I think it would be a good idea as long as you could hire someone to manage and guard the place while you epicly fight dragons and giants and other amazing enemys in game while doing quests and what not.

Poll is biased. I want the option "This idea is stupid. I want more side quests rather than devoting effort to pointless things that are completely different from the gameplay style of the Elder Scrolls series."

you just arent a happy camper are you..i think ive only seen you say two or three positive things in the entire skyrim general discussion..

to the OP.. it could be a great idea..but there could be some massive problems with it like getting to much gold. if they som how fixed that then ya lets do it.. also i would want to be able to fill the inventory of the armor and weapon shop myself. In OB i had so much usless armor and weapons in the chests in my house and there was no sense in seling it because i had over 200000 gold.

That sort of thing is inevitable towards the middle/latter part of the game. I sort of laid out a way so by owning the shop you can sell your goods at a higher percentage of their worth (thus an incentive to own it) but you'd have to wait a week or two for the inventory to clear. You could keep yourself from getting too much gold by upping the wages paid to your shopkeep. If you do the math right (which i don't really feel like doing haha) you could have a store that maybe nets you 10-20% more than selling to random merchants, which obviously isn't going to unbalance your game too much (especially with the wait time), but you'd have a cool weapon shop, a couple of fun side quests and a bit more immersion into the game world.

If you're the type of person that doesn't want to repeatedly revisit the store to stock your loot as merchandise you could easily have a sidequest to hire a smith to make iron weapons and armor. The gold you'd receive would be minimum at best but you'd still have the store.

If you want a "hack-slash-get this-and do it again and again", go play Halo. The Elder Scrolls is about roleplaying, you know.

I think he was baited by the wording of the (no thanks) poll choice. I had originally listed it as "This idea is stupid: I want less sidequests and more high res videogame water" which I intended as a joke but many took literally. So it was "my bad" as they say.

I do hope it wouldn't be terribly deep. I'm quite horrible in my business classes. :ahhh:

It would be interesting if the player, was allowed to build their own houses, every one or few days the player would return to their house and do some work. ?Construction Skills? Income?
For a more actions based approach, the player could or would have to guard their house from attacks of goblins or any other type of threat?
The player could hire guards for their house, or place their companions at that location guarding the location.
Companion gets kidnapped quest? Player must find companion?

Sure I would like to buy a business or the whole town for that matter, but didn't you hear? I have a world to save from an evil dragon of some sort, I'm far too important to spend my time selling napkins and clay plates.

I think people get too caught up in the ... I'm saving the world so I shouldn't have time to do this this or this. If that was the case Skyrim wouldn't have sidequests, it would just have the mainquest and a countdown timer in the bottom right corner.

That being said, the elderscrolls isn't about the mundane, so folding tunics and selling potions directly to customers is out. OWNING potion shops or medieval weapon shops and hiring workers to make coin for you while you slay monsters still seems to fit the tone of the game, and frankly I think it's pretty awesome.

There should be an all of the above option, just sayin'. Like not necessarily all at once, but TES is all about options. Like for example- right now I could go all ninja nunchucks on some random guy :toughninja: or drag noobs to Oblivion :obliviongate:
