Owning Homes in Skyrim Confirmed?

Post » Fri Feb 05, 2010 7:36 am

They did something similar to this in Morrowind. Once you completed the right quests you could start construction of your new house. It was a slow process which included quests. at the end you had retainers and store options.

i love it. They should definitely bring this back and expand on it.

regards,

DK.

Yeah it was definitely a neat option, but the Redoran compound had some pretty annoying quests, and the compound location was barely worth the trouble. I just downloaded the Morrowind Abodes mods and got my cribs going early. The Vivec abode was PERFECT for my OCD need to display the loot of my adventures.

Property? Does this mean that, since farming is in the game, we could potentially buy land, and not just a house?

That would be very cool.

I thought so too. Also since armor/weapon crafting is in the game, why not be able to buy/build your own Black Smith "store" completely equipped with forge and all? Not that I want this to become a medieval economy simulator, but I would enjoy it.

I'm just thinking, if the quote says "property" and not just "houses", there might be something extra to it.

Especially if you could indenture some dunmer refugees to work the land for you. :D

It's tantalising isn't it? It could mean just houses, but it could mean other things too.

I'd love to have a farm, especially since I like to use survival mods in TES games (and if there's no survival/hardcoe mode in the game there will be a mod for it eventually I am sure) so growing my own food or alchemy ingredients could be really useful and would add to my RP enjoyment immensely.

They've got to let us grow alchemy ingredients at home, that'd be awesome. Maybe a personal pond stocked with slaughterfish & mudcrabs....

Yes it as out of the way, but that can be fixed easily. they could give us multiple options of were to build, what to build and how to build it. Quest could work in with the new radiant system, making it a bit different depending what you did. There is a lot of potential here that is going to waste.

Anyone can save some money and buy a house. Boring!

I like were others are going to (Thumbtack Jake, Thungrim and Rogue Mage). This all builds on the options available. personally, though I'm all for training a crew of life takers and heart breakers! make or buy them armour & weapons. Train them or hire someone to train them....

... then watch some nasty dragon burn them to a crisp!
But still fun :)

A house could be a quest line of it's own, agreed. Didn't bother with it on Morrowwind because I would've gone with the Telvanni tower & the place I took over served quite well.
A house could start as just a cabin, then expand into the nearby area as a farm, with a stable, etc.

Depending on the size of the cities, I'd like 2-3 in each. Maybe one in some towns as well.

I wouldn't cry if that option isn't in the game

You mean buying houses? I can't remember where, but I saw an interview somewhere with either Todd or Pete that stated the feature is in and there are a lot more houses to buy than in Oblivion.

Yeah, I thought I saw that too...
As a lot of other people have said, It would be cool to own some sort of estate or farm like in Morrowind and have it that you can complete faction quests in order to unlock the ability to build your own estate in the name of one of the hold or guild alongside the quests associated with that like the House estates in Morrowind.

If these estates are in the game, It would also be good to have some quests associated with your maintaining estate such as protecting from bandits or escorting merchants etc. and the new Radiant Story system would be an amazing tool for creating and differentiating these types of quest...

I really hope they have a house/cabin in a secluded part of a wintry forest.

This ^^

I would love to see them set up something miles away from the cities. Perhaps on the lines of the Priory of the Nine and have a quest connected to it.

I love secret passages so I hope several of the houses should have them. Imagine in one of the cities near mountains if your house had a secret exist that went under the city and into a mountain cave. Sure it might not be convenient to take such a back exit but it sure would be awesome!

it would be really cool if when you kill someone and take there house it becomes yours and all there stuff to cuz in Oblivion it didn't but I think it would be better if it did.

I disagree. You think it wouldn't make you stand out like a sore thumb if someone disappeared and suddenly you are living in their house?

You mean like the house owned by the Mythic Dawn agents in Bruma?

Yeah, and it not only makes no sense from a realism perspective, but it's also a broken game mechanic.

1. Killing someone and moving into their home? Then you can't complain when you get home to find some loon 10 levels higher than you has moved in while you were off adventuring, and sold all your cool stuff.

2. Definitely missing in Oblivion : huge expensive IC house, with sewer access.

I wouldn't mind if there were more applicants for a house I want to buy. A little bidding.

Do I search them up and try to convince them that it would be a bad idea to continue bidding? Kill them?

Morally, what would I do?

Kind of overkill, but I wouldn't mind one such occasion.

I hate how there's one buyable house in every city, it makes it seem very ordered and unrealistic imo. Just like it was made for you. I would rather it not feel that way.

Maybe two/three different houses in one city and none in another. I know it limits you, but so does not having a shop every three meters down the road. One in every city just feels so fake.

I would more choices for houses and houses that are MUCH more expensive and rewarding.
