Owning Homes in Skyrim Confirmed?

Post » Fri Feb 05, 2010 7:34 pm

I always found killing perfectly nice NPCs to get a nice house in a location I wanted to be based from somewhat detracts from the game....
Any confirmed info regarding this?
Thoughts?

Not yet. I'd be shocked if it's not in the game though.

I only played the first Fable, so have there been improvements to property systems in more recent RPGs that would be likely to be seen/ you would like to see in Skyrim?

Not confirmed yet, but I think it's safe to say that it'll be in. As to how many? No idea, really. Maybe five, one for each major city?

We can only really go by what they've done in previous games. You could buy houses in Oblivion, and then purchase various furniture upgrades for them. And in Fallout 3, you could obtain one of two different houses, and then purchase "themes" to decorate them. No idea what improvements might happen from there.

(I love having houses for storage, but rarely do much beyond that. In Morrowind and Oblivion, I grabbed decently functional small house mods to use right from the beginning - a small cave house in Balmora, and an Ayleid ruin just outside the Imperial City. Fallout 3, every character I make tags Explosive, so I can immediately get the Megaton house at level 2. But that's it.... I just use the things for their chests, I never bother much with decorating or improvements.)

Personally wouldn't mine like 2 homes in major cities and the rest in rural/country areas in small settlements on the outskirts of the city

I really hope they have a house/cabin in a secluded part of a wintry forest.

My favorite house was on Morrowwind in the Telvanni bar, can't remember the specific island name. It had about 3 floors, one of those mushroom structures.
Getting that one required a fair bit o' slaughtering to be done.
Then paying off the Thieves Guild.

You mean buying houses? I can't remember where, but I saw an interview somewhere with either Todd or Pete that stated the feature is in and there are a lot more houses to buy than in Oblivion. (Unless they meant Fallout 3, but I don't think so.)

Getting deeds & building on unoccupied land would be great. Yes, I'm thinking of Ultima Online, don't hate me too much

Sorry, it's been a month or two since I saw it, I wouldn't have a clue where to look. However according to Zaldir's thread on here, '* You can buy houses.' So it might be in http://www.zaldir.net/Files/Skyrim%20Sources.html

it would be really cool if when you kill someone and take there house it becomes yours and all there stuff to cuz in Oblivion it didn't but I think it would be better if it did.

What would be great is if story elements could take place at your house through the Radiant Story system, like parties or gathering a group of NPC companions before a quest. Like in Lord of the Rings.

There will probably be one available house in each of the five major towns.

I would like to be able to own any house provided the previous residents were ....removed. I don't think that's likely so I'll settle for a house or two in each of the major towns and maybe even a house or two in a tiny village.

Doesn't matter to me if its 1 home or 100. If they don't do something about item placement, the only good a house will do me is to act as one gigantic chest.

I knew I'd read something about this, and I knew I read it today - sorry it took me so long to go through my browser history to find it! (Had a boring day, visited a lot of web pages!)

It is a small mention in the Eurogamer article, on page 4, I provide a link below the excerpt (the paragraph is just to the right of the Skyrim footage box down the page a bit)....

Quote from article:
"There's no decision yet on mounts or difficulty levels. Inquiries about guilds, factions, alchemy and crime are all batted away. We do at least find out that you can buy property, and Howard hints that some dragons may not be your enemies."

They did something similar to this in Morrowind. Once you completed the right quests you could start construction of your new house. It was a slow process which included quests. at the end you had retainers and store options.

i love it. They should definitely bring this back and expand on it.

regards,

DK.

Property? Does this mean that, since farming is in the game, we could potentially buy land, and not just a house?
