Oww! That mill hurts a Dutchman's eyes

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:03 pm

The trailer is great, but I hope the devs will fix the rotation direction of the windmill's sweeps (1:20-1:23)! It may cause some sleepless nights for the Dutch fans -_-.
Check http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dII42hA2abM to see for yourself.

Edit:

It's not so much about the rotation direction (which is actually right since almost all windmills have their sweeps rotate counterclockwise) but more about the orientation of the sails with regard to this direction.

Oh hell you're right, that's going to look weird from now on.

they're going in the same direction in his video....

He means the way the wind catches the sails.

Indeed, but then they should change the direction of the sails (like others mentioned as well).

Oh great, now I can't UNSEE it, I was going to come into this thread and laugh "look at these guys complaining about a tiny detail" but that just looks really odd.

Jesus Christ - do we really need all this whining? I'm getting pretty sick and tired of people joining these forums only to complain about every darn thing Bethesda do. Seriously, every time a screenshot is released, >40% of the members on this forum complain about something. If it's not the water or spell effects, it's spears or [censored] windmills. [censored] please!

He man, I'm all positive about the game. It's just a minor thing I noticed (being the son of a Dutch miller). No whining intended!

Any kind of complaining, even heavily justified as is this case, is whining?

No, piss off. Seriously. This is getting irritating, now, you really think that everybody should treat everything as perfection? Well, gee, if it's not perfect, and nobody tells anybody, how will anybody know?

Maybe you're fine with an inferior game, but if by pointing out imperfections there's any chance bethesda can fix them and make a better game, that's great. If you just want to circlejerk about things, I'm sure there are places you can go where all criticism is outlawed.

I noticed this immediately and i'm German/Irish/Italian American. It seemed very odd to me that the blades were pulling instead of pushing and I've never seen a working windmill in my life.

Now this is what I call constructive criticizm. I assume Beth will be happy to fix it before release :)

Good observation! At first I was more questioning the ability of those sails to actually catch the wind. They look more resistant to drag.

We always expect criticism; that comes with doing any piece of entertainment and putting it out there. I expect it and welcome it, it's the main thing that makes us want to make things better the next time. We also know it's coming, because we change so much between games that you'll certainly upset some people, it happens every time.

I mean the changes from Daggerfall to Morrowind were just enormous, and we really heard it then. If people don't like something in the game, and they spent their money on it, they deserve to [censored], and that's one of the reasons our forums exist, honestly. I think it's our responsibility to take it. You probably don't know this, but I do have a "don't defend us" rule to the team regarding the forums. If someone doesn't like something in our games, they are right, always. It is their money, their opinion, and they don't need or want you to change it. Plus, I do believe the world is 0 for 1 zillion in internet forum opinion change.

I'll keep posting this until people get the message and lighten-up.

The first thing I noticed regarding that windmill is that it seemed to be operating at full capacity without having sails. This was a bit odd.

Next to that I felt there was something wrong with the rotation, but it seems the OP provided the clarification I needed. :)

Something I find curious. How does it catch the wind anyway? It has so many holes in it...

Fellow Dutchman here,
I noticed it too, was also slightly bothered by it, not because I'm Dutch, I just get annoyed by stupid little mistakes like this. I also think it's a bit weird that there is no canvas on the blades, maybe windmills function without them, but surely not as effective as this...

I didn't notice the windmill thing. Well spotted, sir. On another note, I'm happy to report that the water mill is in perfect working order.

This is a good time to point it out, I'm sure Bethesda will take it on board.

Shouldnt have to point out that EVERYONE here is a fan of the games regardless, and all critisism is given in that spirit.

This was also the first thing I noticed, being born in a town with an old windmill as a turist atraction I noticed it on my first view of the trailer...

No they have it right it just looks very odd because the blades are angled forward instead of back so they pull instead of push in the wind. And ive seen windmills with blades like this.. forget why they do it I think snow or storms or something related... I mean the wierd fense like construction rather then a blade...

Thanks for the compliment, but I saw someone else also mentioned it in http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1169461-did-you-expect-water/page__st__40__p__17231129#entry17231129 post. So the catch is for Hoblak.
