I had a good look for any related topics before I posted this.

Didn't see any, so here you go. Both are very interesting, especially the first link.

There's also some additional input from Todd here:

Nice read. Thanks for posting. :goodjob:
It's good that Todd admits that Morrowind was more unique than Oblivion. Very good. Maybe we'll actually see some of that in Skyrim.

This makes me more optimistic about Skyrim being a little weirder and interesting.

This part is what caught my eye:
"Carelessly drop an axe in a forest during an afternoon's bear-slaying, for instance, and a merchant chum might retrieve it for you later. Behead him as punishment for running his filthy, lucre-loving fingers all over your prized weapon, and he won't be able to enlist you as a caravan escort - but his unsuspecting widow might. You get the idea."

Could this mean:

- There's decapitation?
- There are caravan escorts? (Would give us some nice hope for travel services... or at least some cool quests. Still, I hope for travel services)

It's usually the most recent game we did, so can I say Fallout 3? If not, then I'd have to go with Oblivion, then Morrowind, and work backwards. I can easily point out flaws in all of them, but overall I think we solve more problems than we create in each game.

I don't like this particular quote. Sure, fallout might have some positive influences, but the concept that it could in part be inspiration for Skyrim is unsettling.
Not that that is what it actually says, but the possibility...

What's wrong with Fallout inspiring Skyrim?? I don't imagine they'd turn Skyrim into a post apocalyptic wasteland, but some of the technical aspects of Fallout were done better than they were in Oblivion.

I don't like the whole "drop equipment... NPC retrieves it for you". Maybe I dropped it because I DIDN'T [censored] WANT IT.

Rest of the interview seems cool. I want to know more about the finishing moves and attributes and stuff that I'm worried about, since everything else is all nice and fine.

Like level scaling yes, but somethings weren't
Like character creation, sure it wasn't the best in Oblivion, but only having presets to choose from is bad.
And when they talk about crafting in Skyrim, if they mean the "crafting" in Fallout I'll be vastly upset, but not too upset because I've always thought it would be limited like that.

I worry about Todd bringing in things that work in Fallout, but not in TES because its his current "favorite"
But for the record, im a pessimist, so I try not to voice my worry too often (because it gets old fast)

I'm sure Bethesda are aware of what works in Fallout and what works in TES, so don't worry your little soul :P.

I think you grossly misunderstood what he said... he was asked what his particular favorite elder scrolls game was, or if it was always the newest, and Todd responded by saying his favorite is usually the most recent game they made, which would be FO3.

Besides, fallout did some things better than oblivion.. more hand pkaced loot... the more static (npc) leveling system. There are definitely positives to bring. Skyrim won't turn into fallout, so chill lol

I trusted them with Oblivion, and we all saw how that worked.
Of course we all have different ideas for what works in TES, which means we get our wars between the games.

I think there are a few things. We treat each game as its own thing. We don't necessarily treat them as a series, or sequels. Each one stands on its own as a unique game. We just try to make the best Elder Scrolls game we can for that time. We have the same goals each time, but gaming changes, our own tastes change, our fans' tastes change.

If this is true, then Im likely the fan who's taste didn't change.
So I'd say I have reason to worry, even if not the majority of fans.

Edit: I try not to start, or be apart of the wars between games. But I keep my opinion known.

There's good news too if your interest in the Elder Scrolls dates back to 1996 and Daggerfall: Howard would love to treat elements of the second instalment to a makeover. "I'd like to see the city of Daggerfall redone, or Sentinel. Daggerfall should be on a giant bluff, overlooking the Iliac Bay, and we just couldn't pull it off well then."

Hmm possible direction of DLC/Expansions?

It's possible, seeing as we got Mournhold before...

Or it could be a plan for a future TES.

I hope not. I loved Morrowind, but I don't want to go back in a new game, I'd like a new province.
Same goes for Daggerfall, I'd prefer to see Black Marsh or Valenwood rather than somewhere we've already been.

Seeing not that many have played Daggerfall (I know zero people irl, but many many more Morrowind & Oblivion), and seeing how the game looked at that time, and how things worked in the game at that time...
I'd say visiting Daggerfall would be very very different from the game Daggerfall.

But yeah, I'd also like to see provinces. But that's not gonna happen for an expansion. Only for new games.

Still... what I would want for an expansion would be:

- Something very unique.
- Something that has its very own feel and environment, compared to the original game.
- There has to be a connection somehow to the original game.

I appreciate the sentiment, but what made Morrowind great wasn't just "mushroom trees" and being debased by the populace. It had depth, complexity, and somehow seemed alive even with robotic NPCs. It's like when you're a kid and you're convinced your toys all play together at night. Not for any reason other than they feel so lifelike when you play with them, they can't just be inanimate.

Oblivion wasn't less unique because of it's setting, although they could have done more with the environments. Oblivion was less unique because it held your hand, cut content that was fun if not "necessary," and featured elements like level scaling that completely ruin major aspects of a game in that genre, such as watching your character become more powerful, or finding rare, unique items.

That's why my favorite things I've heard so far are the handmade dungeons and different creature behaviors. These add depth, complexity, and in the case of creatures, never before seen aspects in the game. I do appreciate the things that Oblivion did well, and I think Skyrim will only improve on them. But I'm worried that they haven't solved some of the issues irked me about Oblivion.
