Paarthurnax is the Dov for me

Post » Thu Jun 20, 2013 10:52 am

I have noticed a recent trend for simple threads of appreciation, and assume that Bethesda must enjoy hearing such feedback in the midst of voluminous complaints, thus, I wish to contribute this. http://images.wikia.com/elderscrolls/images/b/bf/Paarthurnax-crushed.pngis my favourite character in the game; I think he's a brilliantly conceived individual, and the scene at the 'end' when I return from Sovngarde - it was a fantastic epilogue, something previously missing from the series.

I only wish that he had more extensive dialogue, because I always enjoy chatting with him.

I don't like him as much as I don't like any other dragon, but he helped me out so I will help him out. I think the Blades are right but I feel I am honor-bound to respect his existence.

Same here. I only took him out one time just to see what it was like on the other side. Felt terrible afterwards, with everything he and the greybeards did for me.

I respect Paarthurnax for what he did to help out the Dragonborn. I don't however agree with the Blades philosophy.
I understand that the Dragonborn is a natural born dragon slayer, but just because someone is born to slay dragons, it doesn't mean that every dragon in existence must be stomped out.

Besides, me and Paarthurnax have some of the most delightful conversations!

Just because the Blades call the Dragonborn the 'ultimate dragon slayer' doesn't make it so. They are fallible, like any Joor. Besides, their 'philosophy' also swears them to the service of the Dragonborn; I object to them ordering me around on general principal, not just because Paarthurnax is great.

I remember the first time I played through Skyrim, when the greybeards mentioned that they had an even greater leader at the top of the mountain, I was mystified. I also thought that he had to be some master Greybeard who studied fantastic arts in a mansion/castle farther up. When I made it up the mountain and saw a dragon flying at me, I have to admit that I shot him with some arrows. When he started talking, and it showed his name, though, I had one of those "Oooooooh" moments. Well played, Bethesda.

As I've said before, I can see why some people like him, but I don't.

So instead I will say I enjoy that I actually have the possibility to deal with him, rather than just put up with his existence.

I prefer miraaks inbred mong dragon. I like to imagine it's been "bred" for domestication and combat, like a dragon pitbull. A bit more simple minded than your average dragon but tough and loyal.

I'm not his fan, he is a traitor, he betrayed his own kind for personal gain.

Or because he thought it was right?..

I suppose you killed Erandur for the same reason.

actually, the Dragonborn is the only one who CAN really slay a dragon.

Dragons will just eventually be revived, Unless a Dragonborn absorbed their Soul.

so in fact yes, a dragonborn is the Ultimate Dragonslayer, as no one else can "truly" slay them.

Also, Dragonborn is a variation of the name Dragons gave to who they feared "Dovahkiin". as we know, Dragon Names Consist of Three words, (Odahviing for example translates to "Snow Hunter Wing", Alduin Translates to "Destroyer Devour Master", etc).
What do you think Dovahkiin Translates to? "Dragon Hunter Child"

Dragonborn is the Ultimate dragonslayer, even if your Dragonborn decides not to use that gift of which he was given

Alduin isn't dead. So it doesn't really matter whether or not another dragon can revive dragons.

The Dragon Cult surely believed there was more than one way to skin that particular cat too.

I've got a pretty serious question.

Can any dragon truly die? Yes, I am aware the Dragonborn is capable of devouring their souls. I think Dragons themselves are capable of the same thing (right?).

But here's my problem, especially when it comes to the Dragonborn killing them. The Dragonborn is a mortal. What happens when they dies? Do the souls of the dragons that they slay? Are they still part of the Dragonborn's soul? Or would Akatosh take each soul back separately. If so, wouldn't that mean he could just give the Dragon's life again. Or is that just wrong?

Anyways, my reasons for liking Paarth (and not killing him too).

Reasons why I like him:

1. Just talk to him. So much awesome.

2. He helps you throughout the main quest.

3. He has suppressed his nature to dominate for quite a while now.

Reason for not killing him:

1. Regardless of if I kill him or not, doesn't really matter if you ask me. Why? Because the only Dragon that matters, supposedly can't die. I'm speaking of Alduin of course. So what will killing him accomplish? Even if he does freak out and go start ruling people, does it really matter? At some point, the World-Eater will return. Me killing Paarthurnax won't stop that. So as long as he is peaceful while I'm alive, I'll let him live. He helped me, so I shall spare him.

Besides... have you talked to him? Oh wait... I already brought that up.

Here's how I roll:

DELPHINE: "You need to kill Paarthurnax."

DRAGONBORN: "Sorry, Delphine, I must've gotten some wax in my ears. I thought you just told me I needed to reward the dragon who helped me save this entire frickin' world from Alduin by killing him. Now what was that already?"

DELPHINE: "No, you didn't hear wrong. You need to kill Paarthurnax."

DRAGONBORN: "Delphine, you can kiss my fat, hairy, sweaty, dragonborn butt. Any questions?"
