Pacer Has Gone Missing

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 12:15 pm

Hello,

I encountered a glitch while doing the "King's Gambit" quest. I talked to Colonel Hsu, and he said that the NCR would send extra troops and supplies to "Freeside", as long as the King would end the violence. Right now I have the option to kill Pacer, either by tampering with his "jet", replacing his "jet" with a note from the Van Graffs, or killing him in a way that does not implicate the NCR. The problem I am encountering is that Pacer has gone missing. Prior to this quest I never killed Pacer, and never let him get hurt during one of the other quests he was present in. He seems to just have vanished. I have searched inside, and outside of "Freeside", and there is no corpse. Has anyone encountered this bug/glitch before? Also does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks for reading and hopefully responding.

(Here's a better summary of what happened; I have tried both the options (Spiking his "jet", and replacing his "jet" with a note from the Van Graffs.) I never killed Pacer, and never let anyone else kill him, I have searched "Freeside", inside (including the shops and the Kings building) and outside. There is no corpse of Pacer. It is similar to the problem I, and others here have encountered with losing companions. When I look at the map on my PIP-Boy 3000, it indicates that Pacer is standing next to the King; but there is nothing there - also he is not in that room. I read a walkthrough and it said that Pacer would attempt to ruin the deal between the Kings and the NCR, by pulling a gun on someone, but Pacer is no longer present.)

The only way now for me to complete this quest is to insult the King, and have the NCR massacre them. I am doing a playthrough where I only make the "Good" decisions, so I would ideally like to avoid negative karma & loss of respect in "Freeside".

You already did the Quest (i forgot the name) where u have to deal between the NCR and The King.
That NCR can hand out food to the people in freeside.
It′s maybe related to this quest.
If you already receive the quest is most likely that Pacer is not present cause he wants to ruin that deal.
After u finish the quest on the good side (NCR) Pacer will return to the KINGS Building.
So check that first.

Best regards

Thanks for responding Cruz, but the way Pacer is supposed to ruin the deal with the NCR, is by him pulling put a gun when the NCR troops go into the King's building. Once I enter that building, the King initiates a dialog with me, where I explain the NCR's deal. The map in my game shows that Pacer is standing directly next to the King. But He is not in the room, and even after the dialog with the King finishes, he still does not appear. I have checked inside the King's building (each room and hallway, on each floor.), and all of Freeside; inside and out. (including buildings like the Atomic Wrangler, Mick & Raplh's etc). Pacer had gone missing, and there is no corpse.

Currently, in-game, it's atleast 4 days after I planted the Van Graff note in Pacer's "Jet Stash", and since he is not present, he cannot be killed this way either. Now there is no way for me to complete this quest, because even if I kill the King's, it does not progress the mission/quest. As of now, I pretty much have to make the decision to either side with Mr. House, or the Legion... Both of which I did not want to help.

Any Other Ideas Cruz? or anyone else?

Correct, as soon as you enter the Kings Building, he initiates a dialog where he accepts the offer for
supplies from the NCR.
Pacer stands right beside the King, annoyed over the decision he pulls out the gun and starts firing.

So this is a glitch and Pacer had magically dissapeared...mmmmh
You should be able to fix this pretty quick, if you got an earlier save game.
Just go back to a save 30 min before or so, if possible.
In most cases the script works correctly after.

Your thinking of the wrong quest. My problem is with the quest "King's Gambit". You're referring to the earlier one, called "G.I Blues". The "King's Gambit" quest involves Ambassador Crocker, who then sends to Colonel Hsu, who tells you the peaceful ways to end the violence between the Kings and the NCR. The options given are to kill Pacer in a way that does not imply the NCR did it, planting a note in Pacer's "Jet Stash" that will get a member of the Van Graff Family to kill him, or simply spiking his "Jet" with a lethal dose of "Psycho".

Wow, thank-you for re-editing the post! I tried that, but still no luck. I have one idea to remedy this, and I am going to try it out tomorrow. Maybe talking to the President of the NCR at Hoover Dam will do something (through the dialog).

Thank-You for Helping Me. (Now thinking about it, if that doesn't work I'll just make this my "Evil" play-through and side with the Legion, House, or just be narcissistic. I can always be the "Good" guy in another play-through. By the way, the New Holodisk Loading thing is really funny, it made me laugh.

Just an update; going to Hoover Dam did not make change anything, because the President of the NCR was not present. Since Pacer went missing, I just decided to side with Mr. House and finish the storyline along that path. Yesterday I started a new playthrough, and I'll try toside with the NCR again.
