Pageant's

Post » Fri Nov 19, 2010 3:26 am

Meh, I don't really watch them. I'm sure there is a special channel for them, and if there is, I don't have it. But, hey, if women (or men, if they so choose) want to take part in them, I say good on them. They know who they are and what they want. Now, of course, being coerced into doing them because Old Ma (who hasn't stopped eating ice cream since she was thirty) forces her daughter into them, that's a different story. That's deplorable.

Grrtt's right about this thread, too. :geek:

I don't watch them, or know anyone who competes in them.

On the subject of "Is Miss America a good role model"-- maybe. It really depends on who Miss America is, not the fact that she holds the title. If she is a good role model without holding the title, then holding the title wont make her worse, but simply holding the title wont make her into a good role model either.

I could see myself getting interested in the preparations and stuff that went into the shows, but not really the actual pageantry. Also, this is kind of an odd thread.

Really? Have you seen some of the threads these forums produce, and you think this is weird?

@OP, do they still (or ever) do the skill thing or whatever, or is that just in Miss Congeniality?

Eh, when it comes to Miss America, I've seen more brains in a homemade German zombie.

The child pageants though, those disgust me to the highest degree. Parents ruin their kids' childhoods because they have passive-aggressive issues.

Weird, I always thought it was 'pageants'.

The delicious irony.

There are some topics where it becomes obvious that shared cultural history only goes so far, and our Atlantic cousins partake in something that is so utterly alien to us. This is one of those topics. British women only stand in a line if there's something to buy on the other end.

This is bizzare.

I checked to see if there was an official Miss America forum so I could ask if they liked open-world RPGs, but there isn't one. :(

:lmao: sig'd

Ousted! Oh well, if I was going to be replaced, I'm glad it was by something that made me laugh out loud. :P

Bethesda's forums is actually pretty damn low on the weirdness scale. Probably due to the heavy moderation and lesser amount of cult mentality. This thread is only odd in comparison to this forum's typical postings. Nothing more.

I know a few girls who compete in them. If they wanna do it thats they're business but when you see these little girls dolled up like on that show "Toddlers & Tiaras" that is horrible and disgusting and those mothers should be ashamed to try to live through there kids like that.

I was juggling between that and "Yes, it is; but we're talking about pageants here."

Well at least someone said it. I was going to comment but some people always get so touchy when you internet pwn them on something they were previously bashing

I suppose yes, it isn't exactly typical here. But still, few threads surprise me anymore as to how they got created in the first place.

Don't watch them, have no interest in watching them. I don't think pageant winners are necessarily role models because they can be as dumb as a rock.

Child pageants are disgusting though. Ugh, make-up on children burns my eyes; they look horrifying.

No I don't watch them. I voted "I could care less" as a nerdfighter I think I have to sort this out. Its "I couldn't care less" not "I could care less"! saying "I could care less" implies that you actually do care somewhat. I'm not really a grammar person but that phrase in particular irks me. anyway back on topic :P

I really don't care about Miss America or Miss World. I just find stuff like that really boring. Same reason I don't like any .......'s next top model. I'd rather spend time reading Stephen Fry's autobiography and learn about an actual interesting person. I mean for me its a choice between http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1id1J3recyM man on stage and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WALIARHHLII like this. Theres no competition really.

No I don't watch them, the girls seem to have fun so I don't care if they do it. I think they can be good role models, If you look past the under-weight thing.
I don't like those child pageants tho, if some are modest then it's OK but usually their just really inappropriate (for lack of a better word) I've seen commercial for a TV show all about child pageants and it's just discussing to see little 5 year old's dressing and acting like they do.

Pageants? Well, I suppose I'd rather watch one of those than... A big bass fishing show. Though that still isn't saying much, I'm afraid.

As someone who knows full well the meaning of the term, can I still use "I could care less" if (a) it still makes logistical sense with the given situation, or (B) I'm being utterly ironic? Because I do use it, and this would certainly help clear up whether I'm being a dink by doing so. Though I suppose I could care less.

I knew a girl in high school that did pageants. She missed a month of school because she had "nasal surgery to correct her breathing." Because we're all buying that story...

Weird, I always thought it was 'pageants'.

That's the plural of pageant, yes. But the plural of pagent would be pagents.

Ohh clever. Pagent is not a word at all though, why would it need a plural?

They piss off feminists, so what is there not to love about them?

I know a girl who competes in them, she is very pretty and she graduated in the top ten percent of her class.

As for Miss America bein' a role model, why not? She does great work for charity and even the ones with drug/drinkin' problems make intriguin' anti-heroes.

"I COULDN'T care less about them". Goddammit it's not that hard to type correctly.

And that's my actual answer (option 3).
