Paid mods and (free) resources

The problem I have with paid mods is, that it has been difficult for authors to track use of their resources even when people where not trying to make money with them. This could potentially escalate with the new system of paid mods and has already driven some content creators away.

I think there should be something done to protect the community of free mods and resource modders, especially since this community is very sensitive to issues of intellectual property. There have been repeated, heated discussions about reuploading of mods and altering work of lost authors, this community has always been very sensitive about matters of intellectual property. The possibility of someone making money off of meant to be free (or not meant to be used in someone else's work) resources will be in another ballpark for many. My goal is not to voice my opinion but to look into solutions that as many authors as possible can live with.

The only way I see something can be done is if the Steam Workshop can be held responsible for any rip off that happens through their system. How exactly compensation should work is of course a discussion resource creators should lead. My bet is that paying the person who ripped you off to find out and then just remove the mod from the workshop won't be sufficient for many people.

I would also like to know what the SKSE team thinks about it. I'm not a legal expert, but if they could forbid SKSE usage from the Workshop, they could have huge leverage.

Please note that his has nothing to do with mod authors wanting to make money off their mods, that is an entirely different discussion!

But it still belongs in the main thread. Your concerns are exactly what it is for... http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1516885-discussion-for-workshop-paid-mods-thread-10/

One thread is all we need, otherwise we'd have 50 threads on the subject.
