Painkiller's Forgotten mods...

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:09 am

Nope. I actually have a WIP for Oblivion, going for nearly 2 years now, but I've suspended it a.t.m. indefinitely. This month I am going to relocate back to my native country and that includes enough trouble as it is. Will probably restart working on various projects this Autumn, finishing what I was doing for Oblivion and updating all my MW stuff to be compatible with MCP's newest achievement (a true breakthrough, awaited for so many years - should have come from Bethesda, but oh well... ;) ) - then will probably think of something new (even the long planned update for AoW Museum was supposed to be more than an update).

Great work on the Vibrant stuff, btw, I'm really impressed. The game reminds now of a bit of a classic painting or, even better, the "Paint World" from Oblivion.

I don't follow Oblivion. whats the paint world.
A update for AoW would be great.

The Paint World is a sort of dimension you can enter via a painting. Everything inside is done with oversaturated colors, and populated with "Paint Trolls" - a funny bunch, though a tad more dangerous than the usual ones. One of the few levels (other than the Oblivion Daedric levels) which shown that some of Beth's designers can still think in a "Morrowind way"... ;) Which I really hope will translate even more in Skyrim.

Thanks, sound like a fun game to play or mod for.

I'd say not as fun to play as Morrowind, but probably funnier to mod. The CS is a bit more streamlined, with an easier quest layout and scripting. However, to keep on the off-topic subject, I was a bit surprised to see that the Fallout 3 CS is somehow closer to TES3CS rather than TES4CS... Oh well...

From my personal point of view, Oblivion is like a blank canvas for bringing to it many of the Morrowind goodies (my very first mod for Oblivion, back in 2006, was a set of Morrowind-like weapons... :) ). My current WIP mod for Oblivion is also trying to weld some loose lore connections from across all TES games - in a sort of personal interpretation... ;)

Just a brief note: in case anyone wonders why http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6768 appears on PES as recently updated, all I did was updating the mod's description. What I added was a dedication to the late Frank Frazetta, who went to the artists' paradise 2 weeks ago... He was the inspiration in all my modding works to date (apart from the gold mod) and I felt like dedicating him this mod (along with deciding to finish a mod for Oblivion entirely inspired from his art, in spite of users' general lack of interest).

I can't connect "lack of interest" with "Painkiller_rider's mods", sorry
:P Seriously, I love your stuff, glad to see this topic up again.

Have plans on making something new for us Morrowinders any time soon? :whistling:

I was away from the world for about 1 month until yesterday when I read about Frank's death. It is some terrible news. I for one would die a happy man if I were half as accomplished as he was upon my death.

Ever since you introduced me to his art a couple years back he along with Louis Royo, and Boris Vallejo, are at the top of my favorite fantasy artists.

RIP Frank Frazetta

Well, RL wasn't getting any better yet - in fact I have to move back to my native country this Thursday - so there are no plans so far for a new mod (as I said, I'm still trying first to finish the one for Oblivion, as I put a few good months of hard work in it, then had to stop). Should RL get back in shape, then my next mod will surely be MW - the Oblivion community shows quite a bit of immaturity and instability, with many modders&users switching back and fro to FO3, and lacking interest in mostly anything other than violent or nvde mods - a side which doesn't interest me much. True, there are some awesome projects going on there, but I've noticed a lack of interest for those as well on the part of users...

Yes, mate, I've also found out late, to my own shame, only about a week ago... I've been pretty much on a very low mood ever since finding out (and corroborated with the packing/moving activity, brings me to new levels of "joy"...).

Oh, and you forgot Brom, as one of the artists most influenced by Frazetta, who gave a modern (though darker) face to fantasy art... I go back now to my moodiness... :(

Hm then I guess we'll be neighbors soon, kind of (if I haven't confused you with someone else :P)

Oh I see, well I've always had opinion on Oblivion which I won't talk about now since it's not related to topic (and it always seems to attract a small pack of Oblivion fans who scan around to find and flame against such opinions).
Good luck on OB mod, if you feel like you can PM me about it, my friend plays OB quite a lot, and seeing your work for Morrowind it'll most probably be something I'd gladly recommend to a friend. :)

Well, funny enough, first I modded for OB, then MW, then again OB... You can find http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=User.EntriesListing&id=92712, some of them are quite decent, although the earlier ones (back in 2006) were merely texturing exercises... Oblivion is a fine game, with many things improved comparing MW, but it didn't manage to capture that fantastic feeling of the latter (no giant mushrooms or cliffracers in Cyrodiil... ;) ). Modding-wise, the CS is much easier to use, especially when it comes about building quests. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/979614-wip-beyond-the-realms-of-death/ was meant to bring some of the originality and alien feeling of MW to OB, with a touch of Frazetta... I only hope I'll be able to finish it some day...

As for being neighbors, actually we were neighbors until now, when moving to the next country to the East - so we will cease being neighbors, at least for a while. However, I plan to visit once more your country (especially the coast), but that is at some undefined point in the future...

Cheers,
PKR.

It's locked after 200th post, that's all you gotta know :P

The last topic on here is from 09 March 2009 so I don't think there is any space for worrying :P

Strange I missed AoW Museum, have nabbed the full version now, many thanks for sharing.

Does the full version have the 2 fixes or do I need them too?

I honestly don't remember - I'd say it's safer to just download those and install them as well: at the worst, you'll only over-write the existing ones. Besides, the files are small <50Kb...

Copied from the Oblivion mods thread and edited:

Hi all,

With great pride (and 0% fake modesty) I would like to announce that my old mod, Gift of Kynareth, has made it to the Hall of Fame on Planet Elder Scrolls! It is my first serious Oblivion work and my first Oblivion mod in the HoF (to join my other Morrowind mods with the same status) - and always had a soft spot for this one...

As for current works, I am still keeping in suspension Beyond the Realms of Death (Oblivion), as right now RL claims most of my time - however, I am working sparingly on an update on Art of War Museum (Morrowind), which can turn eventually in a stand-alone mod: it is again my obsession with the Death Dealer, have got the helmet and shield done, as well as the cuirass&pauldrons (the last 2 courtesy of Hedgehog-12) and now only need the boots and greaves to complete the set... If I find enough time, I will put them in a stand-alone mod (still with the possibility of buying them in the Mournhold Museum), if not, they'll be available only in the Museum. As soon as I will finish and release this, I will focus again on Beyond the Realms of Death - and hopefully finish them before 11/11/11...

Cheers,
PKR.

The job's good, just not leaving enough time for modding... :( However, not complaining, working on games again feels good... ;)

Thanks, man, I certainly will!
