Painkiller's Forgotten Oblivion mods...

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 7:07 am

Hi all,

With great pride (and 0% fake modesty) I would like to announce that my old mod, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=2054, has made it to the Hall of Fame on Planet Elder Scrolls! It is my first serious Oblivion work and my first Oblivion mod in the HoF (to join my other Morrowind mods with the same status) - and always had a soft spot for this one... :)

As for current works, I am still keeping in suspension Beyond the Realms of Death, as right now RL claims most of my time - however, I am working sparingly on an update on Art of War Museum (Morrowind), which can turn eventually in a stand-alone mod: it is again my obsession with the Death Dealer, have got the helmet and shield done, as well as the cuirass&pauldrons (the last 2 courtesy of Hedgehog-12) and now only need the boots and greaves to complete the set... If I find enough time, I will put them in a stand-alone mod (still with the possibility of buying them in the Mournhold Museum), if not, they'll be available only in the Museum (will post this on the Morrowind mods thread, as I know it's not of much relevance here...). However, there is a connection: as soon as I will finish and release this, I will focus again on Beyond the Realms of Death - and hopefully finish them before 11/11/11... :)

Cheers,
PKR.

Congrats and - deservedly so. Probably my all time favorite Oblivion quest mod, together with Mighty Umbra (which you of course also had a hand in). BTW, didn't the Daedric armors in Mighty Umbra get a hi-res overhaul in the latest Gift of Kynareth? If so I guess Mighty Umbra could benefit from the hi-res textures? Not that you have time to study them closely in Mighty Umbra...

I must have been away in Morrowind while Beyond the Realms of Death was discussed as I'm drawing a blank here. What's Beyond the Realms of Death (googling it I realized that you probably like Judas Priest a lot...)?

Hey mate, thank you for your kind words! I honestly don't remember if I upped the res for the Daedric armors in GoF (Mori's armor sure did, just don't remember about the rest) - I will take a look, but resizing them may not lead to the best results, due to color blending used there... We'll see...

Here's the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/979614-wip-beyond-the-realms-of-death/. I haven't been there for nearly a year, although I have done some work on the mod in the meanwhile. I just need time and enough determination to get it done...

Hey IS, will probably hold you on your word someday... ;) I've seen some of your works, very cool stuff!
EDIT: I just remembered your HiRes Daedric retex - it looks quite good, maybe I'd apply the same treatment to the GoK Guardian armors? OR you can do it yourself, if you find some time...

I can share the method if you want to do it, though if it's only one or two sets I could do it, any more and my head starts to hurt :lmao:

I hear you man... I could do with the method (I guess I know what you did, but I'm way too short on time these days to afford experimenting). If you still have my email, you can write there; if not, please PM here. I'm using Photoshop CS5.

What I am up to mod wise- there is a wipz thread on these forums if you want to check it :).
I learned to juggle fairly well since we probably last talked. Here is vid of that kind of thing from last summer http://vimeo.com/17447401

Other than that, getting by. :)

I hear you were working in the biz again.

Good to hear you're fine, man! That video's amazing: one day you should think of getting something like that in Oblivion! ;)

Yup, I'm working in the biz again, should you happen to be in Lisbon, drop by for a drink (or ten) in Bairro Alto... ;)

Just redid Gift of Kynareth and I didn't notice any difference concerning the Daedric armors, although it was a while ago I played it. Awesome as always. :toughninja:

Hey man, I wrote a reply to this, but somehow got lost. I was essentially apologizing, just got carried away by seeing my old buddie Ghogiel here... And was also saying your nick is from one of my most favorite games ever... :)

Hmmm, I'll take a look at it. Yesterday I tested IS' technique, so I might do this over the weekend, although I will not update the whole mod, but rather upload only the textures in a separate archive.

Yeah, man, it's been almost a year... The landmasses/dungeons are laid out already, the armor is done, monsters done (although not placed yet in the world) - I'd probably need another month of work, mostly scripting, making the questline, etc. Problem is, I don't have that month... :(
Oh well, the fact is that it will surely happen eventually... I'll get back on that old thread when I restart working, so it won't die.

Cheers,
PKR.

Hi! I've tried to find the answer of this question but haven't so far...

Is The Forgotten Shields compatible with Better Cities... or Unique Landscape or the alike? Looks like a really really good mod and don't want any troubles with my game for installing it :P

I'd guess so. The only edit it makes in exteriors is under the bridge from the Prison to the Market District. I can check with UL Imperial Isle as I'm using it now - and Better Cities doesn't edit outside the city spaces AFAIK so should be fine as well.

EDIT: Just checked and no issues with UL Imperial Isle.

There seems to be an issue with the pathgrids near the smithy in Weapons of the Nine.

All the nearby NPCs end up meeting in the smithy and only leave after a few days of waiting - all at once causing noticeable stuttering.

It might also be related to the stutter remover mod I'm currently using as I didn't encounter this little bug during my last playthrough of the mod.

Thanks A LOT for taking the time to post and investigate the compatibility. Very nice of you! Thanks! :P

Now I can finally install this mod without worries xD

Never encountered that and I have stutter remover installed (never had more than the 2 NPCs who should be there). Also, there aren't too many other NPCs in the area, unless you brought some in. Could you please check if there is anything else messing up with that cell? If yes, just try move WOTN in the load order and see what happens.

Aye, thank you Arkngt for keeping an eye on this - my schedule is very hectic lately. The only conflict I know of is Gift of Kynareth with one of Arthmoor's Villages, but he was kind enough to produce a patch which moves a bit the teleporter... Or was it Forgotten Shields? Can't remember - I blame it on age! :) Anyway, it's been taken care of, so no worries... ;)

Fixed.

A clean savegame was needed, don't know why, but it's all ok now :)

Another question regarding Gift of Kynareth: Is there some incompatibility with Bethesda's official DLC Knights of the Nine?
Someone on Nexus mentioned something like that alongside the endorsemants for your mod.

I have to admit that I've never played through the official DLC, but am planning to do so on this playthrough, and would like to know if it's safe to have Gift of Kynareth activated at the same time.

As one of my ever present and all time favourite mods I can verify it does not have a compatibility problem with KOT9.
If using the Unique Landscape series you will have to apply a couple of patches, though PKR had modded these areas before UL was ever dreamed of.
