Yeah the cloak looked awesome, im trying to find a cloak with sort of a scarf built into it, Kinda like Drizzt's forest cloak where it hands forward over his chest.

Aye, Strongbow had in mind Drizzt's outfit when designing that. Both of us are great Salvatore fans (I've been reading all the Drizzt novels) and we were planning something like a Ranger mod, somewhat inspired by Montolio's Grove - don't know what happened... :(

Hi Painkiller_rider :)

I've finally gotten strong enough to play through your harder mods and have started with GoK (finished WotFH a while ago, dabbled in WotN, and gotten crushed early on in TFS). I've run into what I'm not sure is a problem: I downloaded GoK Deluxe Edition from Tesnexus but am not sure that the high res textures have taken. Here are some screens:
http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/4110/morihaus.jpg
http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/389/morihausshield.jpg

In contrast to TFS's HiRes:
http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/647/bronze.jpg
http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/4969/bronzeshield.jpg

The images speak for themselves. The design of Morihaus's armor is excellent, as usual, but the texture isn't so great, especially when compared to the bronze armor.

The deluxe version of Gok comes with a .bsa and says the HighRes textures are included... so, am I missing something or is this just the way it is? :nope:

BTW, fighting the Anourans was awesome! Having just finished KotN for the first time, I must say, IMO they look much better and are way tougher (and bigger  ) in your mod!

Well, I just checked and it seems the .bsa indeed contains the hi-res texture - I really don't know why it is looking so weird in your game... I know there is a difference in the texture's quality, mainly for 2 reasons: when I did the Armor of Morihaus, it was my very first texturing job and, second, the texture source was much better for TFS (photographs, some taken by myself in a couple of European museums, chiefly Musee de l'Armee in Paris)...

I will try to take a look at that texture in Photoshop (I hope I will find the original files somewhere), maybe I can improve it a bit... It has been out for so long, it must have just gotten some time patina on it, that's all... :D

Cheers,
PKR.

 I can accept that. The enchantments make Morihaus's gear very useful even if the textures aren't quite up to your later standards. :foodndrink:

Hey, I tried to work it out a little bit, would you care to look at it in-game? You can download it http://rapidshare.com/files/276075413/lordsmail.7z... I honestly don't know if I can do more than that (I don't find the original .psd file), but if it'll look good enough to worth updating, then I'd redo the normal map as well (in the past 3 years I levelled up about 10 times in normal map making... :) ).

Cheers,

Will do. I'm just now going out for the afternoon/eve so I'll post my results later tonight.

Not sure where to put lorsmail.dds in order to override the .bsa (I don't see a Pain___ folder related to GoK in \textures\armor)- do I have to repack it in the .bsa? If so it'll be the first time I've done this... I'm sure I'll figure it out. I have the CS and TES4Edit and would appreciate any tips. :)

Gotta run! :bolt:

Make a folder called LordsMail \Textures\armor; copy the file there, it should work. I don't use the Bsa in my game, for practical reasons, but if you encounter any problems (ie. black texture), just use OBMM to fix the Archive Invalidation problem. You can also repack the Bsa, using TES4Files, but for testing purposes it is easier to go this way...

And thank you!

Your changes are very subtle :ninja: ...

Here are some pics, without the new .dds:
http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/4014/backbefore.jpg
http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/2149/frontbefore.jpg
With the new .dds:
http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/715/backafter.jpg
http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/2305/frontafter.jpg
Honestly can't say I can tell the difference. It worked without forcing archive invalidation but, just to be sure, I applied re-direction with OBMM.

I want to stress that I'm not complaining but only comparing your works amongst themselves... and leveling-up is only natural. :P If you feel like making any more changes I'd be very happy to test them out! :twirl:

Thank you, I appreciate your help. Indeed, the changes were not so big, I only refined the texture a bit, but I rather removed pixelation than anything else. I still couldn't find the original photoshop file, so I worked directly on the .dds file, which is not so good...

I will take a better look at it at some point, since I know that the texture cannot be improved too much, but the UV-mapping of the mesh can. There are areas which are very badly mapped (the arms, especially the elbows, for instance, and the back, of course, see that line in the middle?) - Beth didn't do a great job about UV-mapping and the original Steel/Blackwood mesh is a very good example for that... When I have some time, I will try to fix the UV-mapping on the armor, mostly by correcting the overly-stretched parts - though I don't know when that'll happen...

And don't worry about making me work on this: as most people who give a damn about it know, Lord's Mail was my first retexture ever, so GoK is probably the closest to my soul. TFS is my maturity mod, where I tried to achieve near-perfection in texturing, combined with improved scripts and a decent dungeon-crawler (I like fighting big beasties! :) ), but I still love GoK the most...

Cheers,
PKR.

You need to advertise one called LARGER INVENTTORY on PES. I can not play without it! I put it on the TINY scale for my game.

I've never used the female version, but certainly the male one looks fine on both my Orc and Nord charaters.

For the 9 hells, I never paid attention to the fact it was the female version!!! Now, that probably solves the mistery of the problem _earthling_ encountered: the F mesh is a mesh edited by VA and included in a later version of the mod (with just little testing, since I don't play Female characters). I assume that, when working on the waist line, the UV-mapping got a bit stretched, hence the weird looks on the back of the armor! I will try sometime to correct the UV-mapping for that mesh (I just learned recently how to edit a rigged mesh without upsetting the rigging - thanks to Hel Borne!) - can't promise when, but will do for sure! ;)

And thank you for taking this bloody fog of my eyes! :)

Cheers,
PKR.

Umm, since I saw many new forumers, I was thinking, why not, let's BringUpMorePublicity (for) this thread... :)

Joking aside, I know I am slacking a lot lately in working on my new mod (of late, I had time to open the CS about once a week... :(), but I can only promise it will kick a** when it is released... ;) So, in the meantime, you can enjoy the above oldies (but goodies)!

Over and out,

And enjoyable they are!

If you where to come up with some ideas for the female Morihaus armor I'd be happy to do testing, but I'm perfectly satisfied with what I've got. Although... if I could do it myself, I would attempt to redo, for my own use, the armor such that it's detail and resolution would be equivalent to TFS equipment- the FS bronze shields are easily the most beautiful and intricately detailed shields, front and back, that I've yet seen.

Best wishes for your next project. Take your time and create something special! :)

Well, I already looked into that issue a bit... The problem comes mostly from the original UV-mapping (done by Beth's artists), not from VA's editing... And UV-mapping cannot be redone without re-regging the armour (and I can't do rigging...), so I will try to alter it in Nifskope until it will look better. Alternatively, I will double the size of the texture and see how it works - do you have a good computer/GPU?

As for the shields, you made me blush... :embarrass: Now imagine a 6'4", 265lbs biker blushing... :) The bronze shields are indeed my pride, the 2 round ones are made from photos I took personally in Musee de l'Armee in Paris...

Cheers! :foodndrink:

I have a fairly decent comp- XP32bit, e8400@3GHz, 9800gtx+ 512, 2GBddr2... should be able to handle yet another high rez texture. :P

Edit: Incorporated into FCOM they would loose some uniqueness. :( FYI, all the mods posted in this thread by Painkiller_rider include quests!

Hm, I didn't notice this issue with the female version of the Morihaus armor when I used it. Can't check it now, though, as that char is long gone and my current one is far from being able to do the quest. Looking forward to any improvements of course.

The "issue", old friend, comes from the crappy UV-mapping of the original mesh (Steel)... I have spent the whole day today to redo the textures (I changed the maille part and tweaked some more the colour/contrast/sharpness of the briastplate, did new normal map, etc.) and to edit the UV-mapping for the M armour (sorry, _earthling_, I'll try to do the F version this evening as well, but M version was easier to test for me). The latter is a very tedious job, as the Beth artists must've been in a terrible hurry when mapping this mesh (really, it's almost as bad as the MW meshes) - too bad I didn't know much about this subject 3 and 1/2 years ago, when I first did this armour! :(

Cheers,
PKR.

EDIT/Update: after considering more seriously the above issues, I decided to rework completely the UV-mapping on both cuirasses and to replace the gauntlets (the current ones clip with the vambraces). Today (Sunday) I finished re-editing the UV-mapping for the M armor (the Beth artist who did the original job should be deeply ashamed of the crappy mapping he/she did) and will try tomorrow to do the same for the F version... Sorry for the delay, but I decided it's best to give the best treatment to this mod which is so dear to me...
