Paladin

I'm making a Breton Paladin, but I want some opinions on the class and birthsign. So far I have:
Combat
Speed and Agility
Blade, Blunt, Block, Heavy Armor, Alteration, Restoration and Mysticism.
My Bithsign is The Warrior.

I also have to decide between using a warhammer, battleaxe or a claymore as my main weapon. Could you give me some pointers?
Edit: I choose speed and agility to try to balance the stats a little. Was that a mistake?

For a paladin, I like a claymore or a long sword + shield. Just me.

Some would urge taking endurance as a favored attribute. A paladin might find it beneficial to have lots of hitpoints. Since hitpoints are based your endurance each level and are not retroactive, for those who wish lots of hitpoints, it is wise to start with endurance high and pump it hard right from level 1.

I can't really see why Agility is there. As a Paladin your bound to get hit a lot, so Endurance seems to me as a better choice.

In most games Paladins seems to have an edge over undead characters. Have you considered having Conjuration, so you can turn undead? From a roleplaying perspective that would seem nice :)

My personal preference when I think of a Paladin has to be long sword + shield or claymore. Just as Acadian :)

I probably wouldn't go with speed and agility, bretons have lower endurance so every little bit helps.

On the topic of sword vs mace im gonna go with mace. My paladin used one handed maces and shields with light armor.

I agree with the conjuartion tho, dismissing high level undead feels pretty damn cool lol, I'm not a big fan of alteration, you want it for shields right? Well at higher levels you'll probably max out your armor rating. Lock picking is hella easy, and breathing underwater or water walking is better as an enchanted ring you can switch off and on

I would consider 'the Ritual' birthsign if you are going to use heavy role play. Otherwise stick with the Warrior.
Attribute bonuses are normally the safe bet.

You could try sneaking in Armorer. I wouldnt use both Blade and Blunt, but that is just me....

I agree with the other posts- Speed & Agility suit a bow character. Go with End & Int.

I agree with the Ritual as a sign. Eliminates the need to take an entire school (Conjuration) just to get the Turn Undead spells, and the power with the Ritual is a full magnitude and 40 magicka costing turn undead spell. Plus a powerful healing spell at low-mid levels and a still useful even as you get your health higher and higher.

Agility is useful to a melee character to reduce the chance of being staggered, and it's not something you'll naturally increase with that style of play, so there's a case for starting it as high as you can. Between Heavy Armor, Block and Armorer you'll raise Endurance quickly without having to think about it with a melee character. You may Block less with a two-hander, but you'll still do it, so i'd drop either that or Heavy as a major, so you don't level too fast, and that will help you get +5 to Endurance more often.

I prefer to give the initial level boosts to things the character will have difficulty raising, so Mages and Archers get Endurance and Strength, and Axe/sword characters get Agility and maybe Speed. Since Alchemy raises Intelligence, that usually isn't a problem for anyone, especially if they use summons or detect life a lot. All characters heal themselves for Willpower and many will have other ways they raise it, and of course it's almost useless to an Atronach.

Looks good. I'd suggest the 2H Warhammer for a paladin but I'm heavily influenced by Warcraft III.

The Lady, the Tower or even the Thief would all be good for a Paladin for different reasons. The Mage would likewise offer some magical boosts.

Most people view Paladins as heavily armored warriors who serve a religion or cult, or goodness and fairness as general ideals.

As for weapons, Paladins are most often depicted in fiction wielding blunt weapons like Warhammers or Maces. Sometimes with shields, sometimes not. The Divine Crusader and other Crusaders in Tamriel often occupy the same role as a traditional Paladin and they favor maces heavily. Keep in mind that a common enemy of the Paladin will be the hated Undead, including skeletons. While in Tamriel skeletons can be killed by a variety of weapons, in traditional DnD rulebooks they're harmed more by blunt weapons.

Morrowind's instruction manual pretty much flat out said a mace was the preferred weapon of a Crusader. The question is whether a Paladin is technically the same as a Crusader. I tend to think they are, but they're not necessarily limited to just one type of weapon.

I'd say a Paladin is also charismatic with high Personality, so go with Speechcraft or Illusion as a major as well. Not necessarily for speaking but for charming spells, calming spells, etc. It's more in like with a Paladin play style. Also, Night Eye and Light is useful because a Paladin will go into lots of dark places to defeat monsters and evil people.

Restoration is an essential skill. Some Paladins choose to practice Alchemy for healing purposes, for curing diseases or for buffing their mental or physical attributes as well.

This is probably gonna annoy a few people, but I had already played this character when I posted this thread. It turned out to be rather powerful and enjayable, despite not having strength or endurance as major attributes ;) The extra points in agility and speed was pretty helpful in the later lvls. Thanks for the advice though :D
