Pale Pass?

Post » Mon Aug 16, 2010 12:38 pm

If you think about it logically, when you enter Serpent's Trail in the quest "Lifting The Vale" for Oblivion, you would think by the time you go through Serpent's Trail, come out the other side, follow the trail until you reach the ruins at Pale Pass, you would figure you'd be in the region of Skyrim. Wouldn't you guys think? It would be cool if in Skyrim there is a fort called Pale Pass in the exact spot it would be leading from Cyrodiil. Am I right?

best thread to appear on the skyrim forums for a while.

excellent point. Not including pale pass would be a severe contravention of the established lore.

The fort at pale pass has been around for over a thousand years. I think it has a good chance of surviving another 200. Now, whether or not it would actually be outside of the Jerall mountains and in Skyrim, I'm not certain. I don't think we'll see it though.

Pale Pass was one of a few moments in Oblivion that I was like, "Wow, now this is a fantasy game." So I really do hope that it's in the game again. And yes, the lore makes it seem like it would be in Skyrim. They should do that!

why? there wans't any thing that significant to pale pass. it was just another one of those generic forts with a minor quest attacthed to it.

It was a cool quest, I think thats where the attatchment to this fort comes from. I thought it was cool. And "Generic fort"? In oblivion, every dungeon was hand crafted, its just that they could only spend so much time on game models. Much better made than morrowind's I'll say, though. Morrowind's weren't very interesting save for a few dwemer and velothi dungeons

!?!?!?!?!. your kidding right. nothing was handcrafte (at least they crafted one model and used several clones) unless you mean they put each static object in by hand then yes, but thats not hand crafted in the sense like; every tree was unique. and MW used the same exact tools for dugeons, all that changed was the quality of the texture models.

any ways... yeah the pale pass quest was cool. but why revisit it, we did pale pass already. why not let them make some new area/ dungeon that is just as cool rather than an updated version of what we already saw.

I cant remember that quest or the location, but I always find it enjoyable when there is a link to previous games.

Maybe there will be a site, but it'll be destroyed by one of those dragon... They did mention ruins, I think.

it was a ruin when it was in OB. so I wonder what a ruin of a ruin would look like.

What I meant was vestige. Ruins without interiors, inhabitable, you know, just rocks that show there were humans about...

Well, Pale Pass is significantly younger than Cyrodiil's Ayleid ruins, being from the second Era and all, while the Ayleid ruins are from the first, so I doubt Pale Pass would be any more dilapidated than Ayleid ruins in Oblivion by the time of Skyrim.

Actually, the fort dates back to at least 1E 2073, when Reman defeated the Akaviri army assembled there.

Oh, Reman's death marked the beginning of the second Era, didn't it? Regardless, many of the Ayleid ruins in Oblivion are still far more than 200 years older than Pale Pass.

keep in mind it was a legend for thousands of years, but after the quest in OB, a copy of the black horse courier reveals the discovery of pale pass, and the fate and remains of Garridan, the knight who sacrificed himself for his home village of farmantle glens in a fight against the ice golem. I loved Knightfall, the story was great and seeing the hero himself preserved in the last moments was truly awesome. to see all of that again, of have a chance to get more involved with that story would be great!

Edit: bad typing

Ayleid ruins are at least a couple hundred less than 2000 years older than pale pass, considering that Alessia's slave rebellion occured in the third century first era. (I think Pelinal died in 1E 243, at the battle for White Gold Tower)

What event marked the beginning of the first Era?

First era? the establishment of the kingdom of Valenwood, of all things.

second era was declared by the Akaviri potentate Verisdue-shae after the destruction of the Reman bloodline.
