First, a moment of silence for dear Pandemic Studios. They brought us such wonders as Destroy all Humans, Mercenaries, and Starwars Battlefront. May the rest in peace.
Now, having said that, I never really knew what happened to them for a long time. The other day I googled it and it lead me to the last game they made.
The Saboteur.
For anyone who hasn't played it, it's set in WW2 nazi-controlled Paris. You are an Irishman who gets involved with a revolutionary group trying to push the nazies out. There are innumerable nazi installations to blow-up (VERY much like Just Cause 2). The areas under Nazi control is black and white, with rain effects, roving murder squads, etc. But in the freed areas, its bright and colorful. The gun play is fun, driving is arcade y but somehow fitting, and the soundtrack and radios play proper 1930-1940s music.
I'm wondering if anyone else has played this game? To me, it makes me sad to know that such a good game was unable to save the studio.
EDIT: For anyone interested, the gameplay is a mix of several games. It has an assassins creed like climbing system and degree of freedom, GTA's sandbox style free-roam and car jacking ability, Just Cause 2 destruction of property, and generally witty and funny writing (if a bit stereotypical). Please be advised, the driving is very arcade-y. Cars go really fast, can turn on a dime, and are all built like tanks. But its stupid fun zooming around the narrow streets
