How many times have you but over whelmed by ghouls or raiders while reloading or shooting another enemy. Wishing you could just Melee or kick the enemy away. If I could have one thing in Fallout that would be it.
Yes actually, the e3 footage shows you using your gun stock to knock a raider back. And if the speculated perk chart is accurate, there will be perks that go along with using your gun as a melee weapon. We've also been shown that with some guns you'll be able to add a bayonet.
It can be hard to kick when you don't have legs. By which I mean you are a camera with a pair of arms in a physical sense.
Do you live real life in 3rd person? Does your back not exist since you can't see it?
Not that I don't mind 3rd person games like KotOR and such, I prefer 1st person to get into a good RPG.
Don't know if we'll be able to kick, but at least one of the perks will require us to be able to see our legs when in first person.
Fair enough, one of the perks that I think is going to be in the game based on my research. And yes, it is still speculation at this stage
Lmao. Are we really calling our guesses about the game "research" now?
I find that hilarious.
They are better than 'guesses', if we are being pedantic, they are 'conjectures'...
No, and I can see my back. I can even see it without a mirror. It's also just a ridiculous comparison because my back is still there, your legs literally are not when you play in FP in Bethesda games. Which means that if you did have a kick move, your disembodied leg would just jarringly pop out of nowhere and hit whatever you aimed your kick at before disappearing again.
Nice, I hope you're right. Can you tell me which one? I don't want to read about all potential perks, just would like to know why you believe it will require you to see your legs.
Wait, a perk that adds visible legs? That's all it does, or something else?
No lol. It's a perk that would seem to require adding a variety of action oriented abilities. Due to the number of ranks, it looks as though there would be 4 new actions, and a sensible choice for one of the options would be to mantle (automatically jumping or vaulting over a low obstacle such as a wall). This is an agility skill that would require us to be able to see our legs, and has been featured in games such as Dying Light.
EDIT: the mantle ability could even take the form of a 'sliding attack' where we could knock enemies off of their feet.
Anyway, back on topic, a kick would certainly be very useful, although I haven't seen anything to suggest it yet. Whereas with melee attacks using pistols and rifles, this has already been seen in actual gameplay, and there are also 2 perks in the Strength line-up that would fit the bill in terms of making this a more powerful means of attack.
Remember when Bethesda games used to have an acrobatics skill, or just skills at all. Good times.
Can't wait to kick exploding barrels on top of enemy's heads.
Wait- there aren't any exploding barrels in this game? Aww.
Of course, you can't make an open world sandbox RPG that isn't focused on parkour and then add it.
R-right, Todd?
Todd says Bethesda are streamlining movement itself. Todd asks who wants to simply walk and run from point A to point B. "That's boring, right?!" Todd says. Bethesda are combining walking, running AND parkour into the one, fluid, intuitive movement and physics system, Todd says.
You see that building? You can be near that building.
since this is an updated version of the creation engine. im sure the mechanic they used for the dragon shout button has been used for something else. like hotkey grenade throws or a melee button. there was footage in a trailer of smacking the crap out of a raider with the butt of a pistol. but that might have just been a 1st person take down like the way skyrim did it so randomly.
unlikely, consider the bayonet mod, whos description clearly states it increases melee dmg.
As a side note, we already know there is a grenade hotkey too, so most likely we have both.
The Fallout and TES games are developed separate, both are forked and built on different engine builds. In FO4's case I'm guessing the code for "shouts" weren't included in it's version of the Creation engine.
EDIT: for the record, many perks have already been shown in gameplay, but most people haven't noticed because they weren't looking for them. These include perks used for enhanced melee combat, as detailed in various articles and first hand accounts from QuakeCon and GamesCom. So I would say that this most definitely qualifies as research.
I definitely keep my fingers crossed for better melee/unarmed. I understand it's really hard to program and animate properly, but it's so frustrating when enemies just launch themselves at you with no regard for their own health, just swinging away. A better sense of self preservation on behalf of the AI would allow for more strategic melee and better exchanges. For some critters, like feral ghouls, throwing themselves at you is of course their way of combat, but for raiders and other intelligent beings there should definitely be less of that happening.
