Oh My Papa, failed quest

Post » Wed Aug 04, 2010 8:03 pm

Since my character is not an assassin, this is a failed quest even though I have high speech skills and could have used them for an alliance. I copied this from the vault wiki because it explains it.

If you trigger the dialogue where Papa refuses to break the alliance with the Legion BEFORE this quest is started, the option will NOT come back, as it seems to be a one time dialogue option, and so the quest gets locked and is unable to be completed because you cant trigger Regis coming up to you and making a proposal after you leave the Long House.

I *did* speak with papa early on and when I return, Regis is at the table along with the Legion emissary but the quest doesn't move forward according to the official Guide flowchart and the other resolutions to speak with other Khan members don't come up either. I hope this is fixed in a patch.

Added 11-12: And now it won't let me untie Anders from the cross at Cottonwood Cove. :(

I tried to do this quest again and it won't even fail and close now. Papa won't talk to me and Colonel Moore just expects me to do what she wants to Papa and I won't do it. No other dialogue to move the NCR story along so after 165 hours, my first game has effectively died right there. I hope there's a patch coming for this.

Does anyone know if I should be speaking with someone else to move the NCR story forward?

I just killed all the Khans in the room. It didn't give me any negative karma and it completed that part of the quest for me. If you don't find any other way you would probably have to do that.

The Khans are drug dealers after all. It wouldn't be assassinating, just dealing out a bit of wasteland justice...lol.

I can't even get a quest from the Khans. The quest marker points me into the lodge, when I go inside it points me out again. I've exhausted every dialogue in this bl**dy camp and the only quest I get is some Khan wannabee poetry reader who wants me to go to the Mormon Fort for him.

Every part of this game is flawed! From constant crashes to VATS not working when you need it, not to mention the frame rate falling through the floor at certain points and quests that glitch if you sneeze too close to them. The fact that I'm a level 30 character shows how much I like the game, but in order to get this far I've had to constantly deal with one glitch/crash after another.

Was any game testing conducted by Bethesda/Obsidian at all? If the answer is yes, how come the game was released in this sorry state?

DragoNate
Will killing the Khans adversely effect the overall outcome? I don't want to screw this game up more than it already is.

Aww screw it... I'll kill them anyway, I can't mess it up worse than the Dev's have!

that f u c k i n g quest is why I restarted my game. Little did I know that if you talk to Melissa down at the encampment in Quarry junction and do her drug run mission she won't be there when you need her for the oh my Papa mission. This is how it's done: Talk to Papa-Regis-Karl,leave-Regis will talk to you outside,do the speech options,go to Quarry Junction-G/K Encampment first and get Melissa on ur side first as well as talk to her again and get her mission. Then fast walk to Red Rock and wander back the canyon to the Drug Lab talk to the guy and girl there. If she won't swing your way,he will. Then you can talk to her to get the drug run missions and remember not to kill motor runner in V3 until you finish her mission w/him.Then go to Papa's house and go to the bedroom on the end of the long house and rob Karl's journal out of the locker. That's Regis's proof, but he won't acknowledge you so,just talk to Papa and show him the journal and he will order Karl killed. Talk again, lalala,he sways your way. And somewhere along the way a Legion assassin may try to off you in Red rock somewhere-sent by Karl. The second time I did the mission he musta stopped for a beer at the 188 Trading Place or a bong and a blintz,or a cigar and a waffle or a pipe and a crepe'. Because he only showed up outside Papa's AFTER Karl was killed and was marked as a friendly-he died anyway. If your quest is messed up and you just want it off your list, stealth boy behind Papa with a silenced weapon and snipe him.No bad karma,no infamy, nothing.Ends the quest(fail) but it's done then. That works for everyone in the game.If they can't see who did it they can't blame you. I killed every NCR NPC in the El Dorado substation that way for their armour and no bad karma/infamy. A lot of people had this quest screw up so don't feel alone.Love the game, hate the issues.

Thank you everyone. I'm not an assassin (RPG) and have never killed someone in their sleep. When I pass a Legion camp with sleeping Legionairies, I do not shoot at them. I just keep going. I'll kill if attacked...that's just the way I am. If I'm going to be immersed and do quests any way I want like the Developers say when they promote FNV, then that's how it should be. I've never gone down that assassin road (in Oblivion or FO3 either) and don't want to start. I kill as few people as possible.

Talon, I'm going to try a few things based on what you said. You were very helpful, thank you. I hadn't done the Melissa quest but now I have and I'm still checking to see if it has triggered anything anywhere. My status with the Kahns was Accepted but now it's Liked. I think I've only done 2/5 things for them so I'll try a few other things. The problem may not change though because I spoke with Papa early on and according to the wiki, that dialogue doesn't come back...and it was way early in my game. We're supposed to talk to everyone we see and now this situation makes me afraid to do that.

I'm still hopeful there will be a patch on this but if not, this game is ended on my chosen quest-line. I don't think I want to go with the other factions. Maybe I could just find Caesar myself and let Boone deal with him. I wonder if that's possible...to make my own quest and story. I'll come back and post if any solution is found.

It's supposed to be immersive and I'm trying to stay immersed..........thanks again everyone.

Would not reccomend trying to kill Caesar. I wondered into his tent and was almost immediately slaughtered by like 10 people with Ballistic Fists and i even had 2 companions with me.

Thanks. I was looking at that thread about Caesar's Tent and I don't even know if I'll be able to get there or if it's there or the people inside might not be there because something has to be triggered. I haven't decided yet what to do. Now it sounds like there may not be a patch for a couple of weeks. :( I suppose I could just wander the wastes and go swimming at Cottonwood Cove for a long vacation. I wasn't planning on doing all of the quests first game because I wanted to save some for the second. I still have to get back to playing to see if I can trigger a move forward on my NCR track. I don't have much hope though. Fingers crossed.

I haven't been able to trigger any solution on Oh My Papa but I went to see Benny and then could get to the Fort and Caesar's tent. Boone, ED-E and I went in after clearing the Fort of Legion and as I watched my death scene in the tent after hitting Caesar with a missile in the chest, I could hear Boone blasting away at the others. At least that was satisfying. I'm imagining him finishing them all off and then giving me a nice burial somewhere. He'll lay flowers on my grave and visit every once in a while. I noticed Cass was giving him the eye at the Outpost so maybe they'll get together and heal each other. :)

Funny, I didn't have THAT much trouble killing Caesar. True, I used up most, if not all, of my health items, but basically I just wandered in there with Boone and ED-E and murdered the entire camp. Quite hilarious, actually.

my problem was i thought that the guy with the platinum chip was in there and it would be a chat or something so i wasn't ready for that kind of fight, plus i was geared up as a sniper. i killed the first 2 guys in there but then the rest came and destroyed my 2 companions which left me, a sniper, alone against 5 hand to hand fighters.

I haven't yet done it and survived yet, but there's an epic (to me) video that you might like. It's definitely spoilerish but it's a good one. :)

And I'm still waiting for the patch, now Level 30 and just traveling around the map and planning the second character. Have a great holiday.
