Oh My Papa - Melissa is Gone?!

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 5:33 am

I had this silly notion that this game was open-ended, allowing me to pick and choose the order in which I completed quests. Having that in mind, I completed "Don't Make a Beggar of Me" around hour 45 of this playthrough. At around hour 55, I went to the Great Khans and opened the quest "Oh My Papa." Foolishly believing that Melissa would remain in her encampment, I fast traveled there to find a whole bunch of empty bunks and not so much as a note to tell me "I'm sorry, I've despawned from the game since you already helped me."

Because I like Papa Khan, I will not - WILL NOT - kill him. If this is the only way to move forward in the game, then I am s.o.l.

A - do any users have some advice, a workaround, or an idea where Melissa goes after she leaves the Quarry region? I did some looking around Red Rock Canyon, and couldn't find her. Multiple forums and The Vault wiki all say she's just gone - can anyone confirm she is nowhere in the Mojave?

B - can a developer or mod confirm whether this conflict will be resolved in the next patch, or any patch that's in the works? I would really like to know. Until I do, I can't really continue playing this character for fear of further cornering myself.

This is bugged, she is no longer in the game, or is currently being crapped out by a deathclaw.

It has been posted before and there was no fix. You will need to either back up to a time before you help her get the chems and NOT help her.

You will not be able to do "Oh my papa" if you have helped her. If it is any help you only need to kill Papa. Do it inside his house and only those in the house will attack you. Those outside will still be friendly.

Yeah.. if you do that quest she says she's going to head back to camp.. obviously with deathclaws in front of her and giant radscorpians behind her she's going to have a bit of a battle to get back to red rock and most likely won't make it.
There's a book you give Papa Khan later in the quest.. he's in the same area you find Veronica.. the follower guy who doesn't really say anything to you. Will pick pocketing this book and taking it to him end the quest? For some reason it seems I read this somewhere else.

I had this same bug and was searching the forums to see if she is just moved on. But I guess not... funny thing was that I recruited all the other characters required in the Papa quest and then when I went back to the NCR it acted like I killed them all. So I selected "The great khans won't be a problem ever again" as if I killed them all...So now every character in the game discusses how the great khans got wiped out even though they're all still alive.

I feel the same way karl should die and i should have the great kahns on my side. if you really think about it this is a problem that is so easily found. how did the beta testers not see it, how can an entire group(20 or more) not want the great kahns on there side? It truly makes no sense as to why everyone was "oh shes not there i think i will just ignore the great kahns now".

On a side note also believe that the patch is a myth i hope im wrong but why would they tell us about the patch after telling us about the dlc? thats bad marketing they just want us to shutup, so they tell us that theres a patch after we get so distraught about the news of a dlc with old problems.
