Simultaneous and apparently highly coordinated terrorist attacks across the city. And now the French President has declared a state of emergency.

It's probably best this thread closes. There are a lot of strong views on the attack and the steps that need to be taken but this is not the site for this debate. Well over 60 dead so far.

My cousin lives in Paris, but wasn't there during this fortunately.

I will say this will be the nail in the coffin of the EU however. One of the most brazen attacks since 9/11.

ABOUT 100 dead in the bataclan alone confirmed. So upwards of 160 seems likely. They threw bombs at hostages when the police raided.

Countries will start tightening borders and doing much deeper background checks. The days of a nation becoming a melting pot of cultures is ending or at the very least on hold for a generation.

It's incredibly sad and disturbing. Please be mindful of the forum rules if you choose to discuss this. My heart goes out to all those people, their families and friends. I can never get numb to this kind of thing.

Epic... you clearly have access to the internet. And this was your opening post? Come on, son, do a little more work next time. I edited the title as well.

I just hope the backlash is not directed at innocent people.

I went to cnn.com to see what I could find. Was watching CNN for a few hours on TV. So sad.

Why would anyone blame terrorist attacks on the EU?

I am chocked and being emotional as I am, when I saw the pictures of the bodies inside the Bataclan, I shed some tears. I don't want to comment anything about what happened because it will brig up religious and political issues and both are not allowed here. But if any Jihadist group claim the attack, I fear we will be doing the tenth crusade :/

Based on what's happening all over social media in Europe now, I really doubt it.

What an awful, awful thing.

These attacks prove one thing: nobody is ever safe, nowhere. My current feelings are anger and grief. I also think that nothing could be done to avoid these horrors. Unfortunately, these events will be very useful to some hypocrite, racist and xenophobic political parties. I'm angry.

Anyway, we mustn't bow to these terrorists, we mustn't allow them to take our lives over, we must keep going and show them our middle finger.

apparently CBC's corespondents and political anolysts are saying it might be in connection to the whole Syria conflict.. this hasn't seem to have been confirmed yet though as no group has officially claimed responsibility as of yet.

if a connection is made however that its somehow connected to Syria, this could spell doom for all those refugees trying to get out of the whole area. because many countries may believe that letting in such people could allow people with a similar mindset as these attackers to enter along with them..

either way, this is a terrible thing, and my hearts go out to all those affected, and the Citizens of France in general..

They lead to tightening borders and are grist for the mill of nationalist, Eurosceptic political parties, especially during the refugee crisis. The atmosphere has been strained for quite some time. Britain is planning a referendum about leaving the EU and if you look at recent European elections, a lot of countries are sliding to the right. I'm very concerned about my country's new leaders' authoritarian inclinations, but I think this discussion would go a bit too far for this forum.

Of course it will. You don't want to be a brown person in Europe right now.

It was expected, though. Shame those crazies finally succeeded. But maybe now Europe will be more motivated to fight Isis.

if ISIS either claims responsibility or investigators find some kind of evidence linking the attacks to them..

without being sure of who attacked you, suddenly engaging in an armed conflict based off of "well, those guys have been causing trouble in some other countries.. okay, lets attack them then, it certainly could have been them after all" doesn't look good on the international stage.. to most foreign countries (both foreign Politicians and Civilians) it just makes you look wishy washy and unstable, and just wanting revenge on someone even though your not quite sure who..

I thinks papers here just stated IS claimed the attacks. They've been cheering on social media as well.
I live in Brussels and I don't really feel safe here. Apparently witnesses saw that one of the cars used by the terrorists had belgian plate....

This infuriates me to no end. The bad thing is while you can point fingers and possibly distroy a organization you can never really kill a idea. If it were possible Nazism would be but a reference in a history book.

My heart goes out to all those effected by this and I am in sorrow for the horrors that will surely be born from this.

I am ashamed to say this, but with all the stuff thats been going on in the past decade, I would not be surprised at all of WWIII ends up happening somewhere in the next 20 or so years..

on a global scale, the worlds not in great shape.. global political tension is at an all out high, many western nations are going into deficits, some countries are even approaching the financial crash area. we got the whole issue in the middle-east (yeah, I know the middle-east has rarely ever been at true peace, but you know what I mean), things are not looking good for us..

honestly, at this point I would not be surprised at all if I suddenly stepped out my door for a walk only to see a fissure open up in the Sky, and the first of the four Horseman riding out of it (the first was Conquest, was he not?)..

ohh, and according to CBC radio, ISIS has claimed responsibility for the incident

I thought they already did? But yes, some evidence wouldn't hurt. And yet they have proven to be dangerous, so it wouldn't be a mistake, even if it was a mistake ;)

And yes, it is worrying what the response from some of the radical right groups in Europe might be.

Is this thread cool? Can't really talk about this without going into politics

Here in France everyone is in shock and of course it is the top topic under discussion. Though everyone is saying that the government had a few days warning that there was going to be an attack on France and in fact over the last few days the gendarmerie (military force charged with police duties here, not the police) have been everywhere in our little town.

Anyway, I was having coffee at a cafe with a group of friends this morning and one was telling us that his sister phoned him from Manchester in England and told him that groups of youth had taken to the streets in Manchester to celebrate the success of the attack, and she felt afraid to go outdoors. I was absolutely shocked and appalled that anyone could do that, celebrate the death of others.

Update with some info I have

Death toll: 127 (least)

1. Shooting at a club

2. Shooting at a restaurant

3. Bombing outside of stadium

4. Shooting and hostage situation at theater

5. Shooting at mall

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attacks, France has closed it borders (so has Poland for the same reason), declared a state of emergency in Paris and the surrounding area and deployed the military.

If any of you are in Paris, France right now, of the surrounding area. I'd say to steer clear of urban areas until its deemed safe to return. Please stay safe and remain calm.

My thoughts and prayers g out to all those affected by these heinous attacks.
