[BETA] Particle Arrow Replacer v4

Post » Wed Jul 21, 2010 9:48 pm

EDIT: No longer Beta, finally released!

It's time for a slight overhaul of this mod. One of the major complaints of previous versions was that the particle effects were too big in 1st-person mode. Players had a difficult time targetting enemies due to the particles completely covering the crosshairs. I've downsized the particles this time around to be a bit more subtle. There's also some new particle effects for certain, rare arrows that hopefully aren't too extreme B) Most arrows/bolts also have slight secondary particle effects. You might see embers burning off fire arrows, small crystals coming off frost arrows, and finally bolts arcing off of shock arrows.

When viewing in third-person/vanitymode and you have an arrow or bolt readied and start moving, the particle effect will become dislodged from the arrow or bolt. It'sjust an engine limitation/bug with particle effects, similar to Trueflame and Hopesfire with the odd angles the particles sometimes point. This graphical issue is fixed with Morrowind Code Patch. This mod can not and will not ever affect self-enchanted arrows orbolts. It's a limitation and sure impossibility of the engine.***************************************************************** 7. This will probably conflict with mods like Marksman mod right? Or at least not affect any arrows or bolts added by them.

They look awesome and I'll probably never play without them again! It makes me wonder why it was never added to the official plugin to begin with?

It doesn't affect arrows not added by the vanilla game or the AEA mod though, so I'm gonna have to go through my mods and assign these meshes by hand to get the rest to work.

These look good. I would be tempted, though, to switch the paralyze and silence arrows with one another. (Personal taste, don't mind me.)

There is an add-on mod included in the package that makes this compatible with Area Effect Arrows or other mods using/changing AEA.

I was giving this a couple days for players to test this; is there any bugs or issues to report so far?

I do need to make addtions to the ReadMe regarding merging for users of the various balancing mods out there. I myself have used TESTool to merge Piratelord's Balance Adjustments and Particle Arrow Replacers with no problems.

ah Ghostnull!

I wanted just to say that this mod is amazing, and it is in my list of suggested mods!

Even though, I will continue using the version 3. I prefer it

Can this method be used on other weapons and perhaps armour (minor visual effect) instead of having the vanilla terrible plastic wrap?
Be a lot more visually interesting when you encounter foes with enchanted items.

That "Slayer" arrow looks positively vicious. I've been using the old version for a really long time now, so I'll have to give this a go =)

Super stuff!!! Thanks a lot!

You have an outstanding sense of particles dynamics and amazing ability to predict how Max model will look in the game.

Great stuff GhostNull!

I was wondering if you could add a snowflake texture to the particles for the frost arrows?

You don't like the new Shock arrow with the electric arcs? :(
That effect gave me the most trouble out of all the other arrows. Curious though as to why you still prefer version 3 over this new version.

I did some work on this, well over a year ago now, on adding particle effects to weapons. Following in PAR's footsteps, I would've replaced most pre-enchanted weapons with particle versions, leaving out the major artifacts. This was long before Morrowind Code Patch came along with the fix to particles so I didn't want to finish it back then and release it. I wasn't wanting to deal with the inevitable myriad of e-mails and comments from players complaining that the particles are stretched or distorted, this mod svcks, etc.

I did have some swords done, but axes were a bit more tricky to look right. However, I did come up with something back then...

B)

Such a mod would explicitly require Morrowind Code Patch to avoid particle issues.

Great stuff GhostNull!

Which particles? There's two different set of particles on those arrows; the smokey-like frost particle and another with little crystals popping up once in a while.
I am using all original textures from the game and there wasn't a very suitable snowflake texture; and I'm hoping to keep this mod texture-free.

Anyways, seems there hasn't been any bugs or issues reported so far, so a proper release will be coming soon. Might tweak some of the particles though. The "gas" on the poison arrow goes out too far from the arrow I noticed and I might do something with the frost arrow, more crystals perhaps? The particles on the fire arrows also seem a little fast.
