Partner with Nintendo

In regards to gamesas's upcoming business strategy, I think gamesas should focus development on the Nintendo DS, remaking some of their prevoius games to fit the DS and also adapting some of their licenses to that format. The cost of development for the DS and also the Wii, is much lower, and both Nintendo systems have very large installed bases. gamesas has to redefine themselves and rebrand themselves in order to develop a unique niche if they hope to obtain financing. Trex rumble looks to me to be a good game (in terms of appropriately targeting the DS audience) and my guess is that gamesas has several other possible branded games that they either discontinued or thought of making and decided against it that they could also adapt to the DS.

I don't own a DS, but from the looks of it, turn based gaming is alive and well on that platform. It'd be cool to see a come back of old school RPGs on handhelds, or as cheap digital download games.

I'm a little disappointed in the Wii. I grew up with Nintendo and was hoping for something spectacular, and the wii-mote concept seems like a bit of a gimmick to me. The best wii titles are pretty fun, but there's hardly anything worth playing on that platform and developers seem to be forced to try make games around the controller, which is fairly limited in what it can do.

Battle Chess DS has a nice ring to it.

Fallout ports would be great. Unfortunately, I don't think gamesas has the right to change the games in the slightest, only to re-release them exactly as they are. It's too bad too, the Wii's controller would work fine for any primarily mouse operated games.

I should look into Wii modding, I know you can add a homebrew channel through a savegame exploit and install pc apps on it. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that people have gotten ScummVM running on it for older adventure games. I'd love to play me some full throttle or day of the tentacle on the wii.

Yes the Wii does have a modding community and yes ScummVM works nicely. The thing is that ScummVM isn't a PC app. it's open source. The code was migrated to the Wii modding community api/language...

Also the Wii uses a PPC not the standard x86 archtiecture. So trying to a run a PC won't work. it would require either a code build up like Quake/Doom Wii or an emulator. Anyways probably best to refrain from such further talk.

I think when it comes to the console side of things the Wii is in better position than the PS2 was. There seems to be more PC/Wii gamers than PC/PS360 gamers out there. A Pointer is a pointer is a pointer. So maybe they could find a loophole for Fallout. It would be AWESOME to see Fallout on the Wii. Though they would probably release it as a Trilogy.

Personally I would like to see the original Fallout on the DS. Since Fallout 1 & 2 are single CD 700MB. The current Wii cart is 256mb and they are working on a 512mb. All you would have to do is scale the graphics down by half. Since the res doesn't even match a 320x240. Fallout used higher res. Since most of the CD with video i'm pretty sure you can squeeze the game content onto a 256mb.

Nope, they do not. They'd have to go through Bethesda if they wanted to do that. The Vault - Fallout Wiki * Fallout Online * Fallout IRC Channel * Fallout: New Vegas

That would be an interesting process... actually, scratch that. That would just be hell. A massive thank you to EA for:
- Producing great quality games time and time again
- Providing excellent technical support
- Never destroying any highly acclaimed studios for profit
- Never ripping people off
- Never wasting people's time
