Patch 1.4 beta and level 4 vendors

Post » Fri Feb 26, 2016 10:34 pm

I was very glad to know that Beth had fixed the Scribe and I decided to check it and to encounter him :). I was not so lucky, but I encountered Smiling Larry instead. And it seems that he is fixed too. I sent him to Spectacle island and fastravelled away. And after 1-1,5 days he appeared there and I assigned him to a tier 3 weapon stand. A couple of in-game days have passed and I left the location to do some quests, but he is still there. The only issue is that I can`t trade with him, only barter. But it`s ok for me. I will edit this post if I notice any changes and I`m going to try to encounter the Scribe again. Maybe other people also have some experince to share, because it`s not that easy to encounter these guys.

Good to know. I managed to recruit Smiling Larry to a settlement, and he did show up there. But I've never been able to assign him to anything. I'll have to check on that the next time I play. I can confirm that the Scribe is working properly as well.

I recruited Rylee and she showed up. Previously, neither the Vault Tec Rep nor Doc Anderson ever showed up.

Cool! I`m already on my way to Cambridge then :)

I`ve met Anderson too, and she agreed to work for me but never even moved from her place. It was before the patch 1.4. If I meet her again, I`ll try to recruit her.

They are random encounters. You can randomly encounter them in some certain locations, e.g Cambridge police station (between the police station and Collegiate building) , Mass Fusion Containment Shed , Boston police station (under the train bridge or nearby ) and more. You can talk to them and invite to work in your settlement. If you assign them to some certain level 3 shop, they will offer you better selection than usual settlers and with legendary items. The Scribe is an armor vendor. Those

Spoiler
Art guys, who are fighting with each other

are random encounters too, but they are not vendors.

Well to meet them you have to visit places that "random encounters" occur.

So you might need to walk the roads and visit campgrounds.

For instance there is a campground behind the museum of freedom.

You might pop in there on your way somewhere.

Spoiler

The sun might be setting and you could come across some mutants, or a bear and corpses, or a vendor, or raiders cooking dead mirelurk or another random encounter.

Or you might be walking along a road and in the distance you might see a man selling a dog, a woman selling a cow, some mutants with a settler hostage and so on.

I've seen the random encounters like the dog or cow sellers plenty but never named people you can recruit.

Have you checked out any campgrounds, especially after 8.00pm?

I never encounted Smiling Larry in my 80 levels . This was the first time . So I was actually wrong calling it unlucky.

If you regulary visit these random encouter spots/locations, then you`ll have better chance to meet them all.

I also noticed that some spots work only for some certain encounters. The train bridge near Starlight is good if you are looking for Gene (he sells dogs), but I never encounted there any vendors.

They're almost always empty or they have the dude I believe belongs to the random trading stand I found in the woods selling booze.

I don't know all the locations though so maybe I've just missed them this whole time, lol.

I recruited Smiling Larry but he never showed up at the drive in.

He didn't fast travel or anything. Just kept walking.

Do you guys think he is lost to me forever?

It`s possible, though I tried to send him to 2 different settlements. And it worked both times.

What about population? I think if he is not included in it, then you can encount him again. But can`t be sure.

Wow! First I have heard of someone actually assigning Smiling Larry to a vendor stall! Congrats!

So, what Legendary weapons does he sell? Are they random, or fixed items like some of the other vendors that sell 1 or 2 legendary items?

Keep us in formed! :)

Should be fixed by now, you just need to wait until this patch is available on PS4.

IrwinDustin is right. He sells this ripper. I rather collect unique settlers than their legendary weapons :), I already have too much guns. He also sells a lot of different ammo including mini nukes and has near to 1500 caps.

500 or 600 hours in across four builds and not once have I even seen Larry or Doc Andersen. Rylee, Vault-Tec dude and the woman from the TV station have always been no trouble, and I've only seen the Scribe twice but was not yet in a position to hire him. Have never met Gene, either, but Kelly now seems to be permanently set up in that random encounter area near Med-Tek -- which has been useful for purposes of acquiring an entire herd of brahmin at Spectacle Island, but seems to have shut down the random encounters.

But the OP gives me hope. Still wish our SS's could get ahold of these guys' traveling itineraries or something, so they aren't so completely random -- like you do with the Penitus Oculatus guy for the Dark Brotherhood in Skyrim. But for now I'll just continue to dream . . . and fast travel around to all of these locations, over and over and over. LOL.

Just saw Doc Anderson for the first time last night. I panicked, because I didn't think I was prepared. I had a lvl 3 medic stall at Abernathy, but I had a settler assigned to it already. I sent her to Abernathy anyway. My settler count changed from 20 to 21 (checking in pipboy) while I was standing there next to Doc Anderson at the campsite where I found her after I asked her to work for me, but when I fast traveled to Abernathy and checked my settler count again, it was back to 20. So far she hasn't showed up.

Edit: that was probably off topic. Sorry about that. I am on console without the patch under discussion in this thread.

If you are referring to if they exist I can confirm that. They are pretty much a given eventually no matter what platform you play on.

The problem most people have is that there can be lot of requirement for unique vendors and some can be steep in terms of population count. Factor in the bugginess of actually getting the recruit dialogue managing to work and the critical fact that many of these npc's are or were not nonessential (they can die enroute to the settlement) the chances of managing to get some of the better guys to a settlement are very slim and there needs to be a lot of work to fix them all.

Hope the OP is right and they ninja fixed the vendors. Word of advice: If you do manage to recruit some of the guys make sure to manually escort them to the settlement until they are made essential by an official or unofficial patch. Give them some stimpacks if the option is there as well.

P.S. Some have set times that they show up at campsites. The unique bartender doesn't show up at a site unless it is after 20:00 hours.

again it should all be relative despite the platform you play on. I''ve spotted a couple out in the wild including Ron(?) the bartender on PS4

It's possible? What do you mean?

No, I know they exist but that wasn't what I meant. The simply fact is for many on PC and even console goers(more so since PC users could use console commands) those legendary merchants(Larry and Scribe) simply do not spawn in the game, therefor not existing for anyone playing.

It's a big bug that bethesda has yet to fix. Unless this update for console goers next week or so encounters these legendary mobs, even myself, i'm not going to be excited.

Well it's a start for sure. Have they patched the Vault 81 lvl 4 merchants yet?
