Patch broke the game

Post » Mon Nov 01, 2010 8:44 pm

I don't want to sound like an [censored], but I'm done. I'm sick of glitches, I'm sick of freezes and I'm sick of having to start over. I'm done with Fallout, I'm done with Bethesda. What svcks (besides the money I wasted on this franchise) is how much I truely enjoyed these games. I liked the story, I liked the gameplay and the open wolrd. But I'm sick of trying to work around a broken game.

Goodbye,
Kdn003,
Kyle

I got the non existant DLC message, but all three of my characters loaded just fine. I mean yeah I get the ocassional item dissapearing here and there, but I exit my PB and re enter and its back. :flamed:

That's not a defence for this bug. You get the message while you are loading a game save (pre-patch). This is the easiest bug to find. A hard bug to find would be a small area on the map that you fall through or a quest bug cause of all the overlapping quests.

No it isn't. The bug depends on the state of your save files i.e. the state of your world (what you did and what you have). Just think of how many different combinations possible endings to quests out there and your companions as well; not to mention all the items. It's probably hard to relate if you're not a programmer.

Well I have two characters running. A level 35 Dead Money completed and a level 5 doing main quest and currently at Boulder City. Both have the DLC message and freeze at loading. I can see the level 35 having issues but not the level 5. Unless it's any DLC (Dead Money and Classic Pack). I still think this was an easy thing to test, before releasing the patch.

Fine. You have a point with the lv 5. Who knows maybe it has something to do with the layoffs they did right around this patch.

diito - no DLC, error message & then freeze when loading save. Deleting update works. I do understand what a nightmare testing can be - it's always a trade off & there will always be bugs slipping through, but this seems a pretty big one. Presuming it must be an inventory item / game state that is causing it - but come one, there is a thing called automated testing and they must have a huge amount of test data from the initial release. Test 1 = automatically load all their test save games & make sure they still work!

And why cant the update just be pulled from XBox live until it has been sorted?

Be safe and don't update. Wait for the next update that will fix everything.

I try to load my game save (I had the 1.2 patch installed while playing with this save) with th 1.3 patch installed. A message appeared saying that "this game relies on downaloadable content which is currently not available. DO you wish to continue?". I am afraid to press the "yes" button because it might crash my entire game (120 hours played in total).

I had the DLC error, but it went away. So far very limited freezes, it definitely is a buggy though. I've noticed that sometimes it'll hang a black screen for a while until it finally loads. But nothing like whats being described here. I guess I'm just fortunate. The weapons are nicely tuned now, I'm liking the changes made there.

Maybe, maybe not. I had the same error message but everything loaded properly and still continues to do so. Although, I haven't been through Dead Money with this character. But I do have the Mercenary Pack. However, that message no longer appears. And everything as I said, still works properly. Close to zero freezes and no hiccups.

Hey guys. We’re aware of the New Vegas save issue people are seeing with the new update on Xbox 360. We're investigating the issue and will keep you posted.

So, about six months?

How much did the programmers fail if they didn't even test if game would start properly when loading a save game? Seems like basic trial and error testing at least.

I'm past my fury about my saves being lost. I started a new character and that's fine with me.

Now I just want to see this fixed so we can get the DLC :sadvaultboy:

I'd just like to be able to play the game I paid for. I bought this game over 6 months ago, why am I still waiting for my product to work how it was suppposed to to begin with? - Rhetorical Question

I am a HUGE fan of the fallout series. It is by far one of my top 3 favorite games of all time. I am deeply upset that I can not load my saved games for the dlc and that I freeze in the loading screen. Bethesda please hurry to fix the issue I would love to continue playing and obliterating the mojave wasteland of mutantsghouls and other creatures throughout the land, so hurry to fix the problem please.

Hello company, misery here, and I love you guys. So far, nothing has gotten me passed "DLC notification + freeze on load." Deleted the patch on my hard drive, cleared my cache, denied update after restarting, all multiple times, both on and off line, and I got nothing. Started a new character, still get the DLC notice, but seems to play ok. My heart's not in it though. I only had about 60hrs in, but I hate to leave that behind. I'm not quite ready for the torches and pitchforks on the doorsteps of Bethesda, but this has to be the most epic fail in gaming in my over 20 some odd years behind a controller. Anybody know of a precedent for a supposed fix totally locking people out of previous saves? And why the DLC notice? I have no DLC. I haven't added the add-ons, but sounds like I'm not alone here. Anybody know if the fix will let me back into my previous save files? Or am I starting from scratch? Guess it's all speculation, but first to hear anything let us know. I'll be checking back often. Hope springs eternal and all that.

What really bothers me is that none of the bigger game presses seem to mention this, maybe I'm a jaded New Yorker but I do have a feeling there's something sinister about this because I know in my place of work (VC), this kind of silence would make all involved parties' blood boil.

Whatever happens, I guess we'll find out tonight. I fully understand what you mean when you say your heart's not in it.

I can confirm also that just deleting the patch did work for me. I still don't get why they haven't pulled the bad patch all together since I didn't know about the issue and just installed it about a half hour ago and luckily found the posting on the forum here (feel silly for not thinking to just delete it but honestly never had to do that for a game on the 360 before) Thanks to whoever suggested that.

Yep another aspect that's just baffling to me, unless they assume people check the internet before downloading the patch, which I guess I will have to do from now on :sadvaultboy:

Why don't people just delete the patch? It should solve the problems (at least it did over here), just wondering if all patches are gone or just the latest one?
Anyway, I just played 2 hours and no bugs sofar... felt the same as before the patch.

Hmm, that is strange it's still lurking there online, ready to automatically download and ruin everything. They really should take it off until it gets fixed. Or is it only a select few who are encountering errors? I see only one vote saying the patch didn't break the game, but are there others out there for whom the match works fine? Deleting the patch seems to do nothing for me. For you, it seemed to fix it, although I assume you have to remain disconnected from XBox Live in order to play?

I am getting the big freeze with no DLC (other than the classic pack). Can someone tell me how to delete the patch I just installed?

OK I found it. I just never looked in there. That seemed too easy. I will delete it and then not update and see what happens

Thanks

I deleted the patch and play offline now to avoid the required patch, also I don't have any DLC installed. Works like before, I don't encounter any problem.
