Patch 1.8 dissapointment ._.

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 3:51 pm

Hey folks!
I was really happy about the new patch, and i couldnt wait to test it.
Ingame, its an other thing. Im dissapointed by the "ADVANCED" graphical options.
The variety of options to set is too small. :/ also, custom cvars in an autoexec.cfg file were deactivated.
Crysis 2 is now lagging on my lap, and advanced graphical options arent changing anything because you cant change or disable antialiasing and the other important thing like SSAO. I always have it off because my GPU isnt a superhero.
The only thing in patch 1.8 that makes me happy are these little balance improvements and instant action, team instant action and crash site numbers.
What do you think about the new patch? Post here please :)

Sorry for my bad English, and bye,

dy0r

You have three options:

1. STFU and stop moaning.

2. Use commands.

3. Wait for the DX11 patch which will add more UI options.

Advanced settings are pointless because you can't control important features separately. Blur and FSAA settings are a must have.

CryENGINE3 doesn't use FSAA, it uses MSAA. This is why typical options like 0x/2x/4/x/8x/etc aren't available because it's not the same type of AA.

As mentioned in the announcement thread, we don't officially support the disabling of motion blur, hence it's not available in the menu.

There will also be further options available to coincide with the DX11 update: https://secure.gamesas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=319150#p319150

Cheers.

Don't know what you guys are complaining about custom profiles and reducing effects...
I'm a skilled player and i have no problem playing well with default config settings...such as motion blur, radial blur, etc
the only thing i alter is FOV, but even the default fov is fine for me due to 16:9 resolution monitors nowadays... there's not much of a need to alter FOV.
You should be skilled at playing games the way they're made....

i havent played the new patch yet; so ive been reading all the comments about it, and all i see are a lot of hating about the removal of cVars...
Seriously is that all there is?

well tonight i'm going to do my own testing, and find more serious gameplay issues to bringup

Some people get sore eyes headaches motiion sickness when certain effects are used, like what happens with a percentage of the population watching 3D, don't discriminate against us, oh yeah GTFO also. :)

I have to disagree with you about FOV. Any horizontal FOV lower than 90 (vertical 65) makes me feel nauseous.

Man, you guys just need to desensitize yourself; how long have you guys played FPS games?

You're lucky you didnt have to play Quake 1 multiplayer online back then in 1997, where there were only 4:3 resolution monitors and grainy pixellated graphics... yet the multiplayer was extremely fast paced.
Of course when I started back then i had those nauseousness and headaches, but i've learnt to desensitize it.

There was a time when i played Quake 2 multiplayer with a slow computer (intel 486 with default graphics card) and my custom config includes commands to remove rendered textures, and all the walls were flat pastel colours, and due to my computer being svcky, i had to play it in windowed mode at 640 x 480 resolution. Including a crazy fov of 120... all the while, actually playing a live online clan match.

so basically my point is, if you want to be a FPS gamer, desensitize yourself with whatever the game makers give you. Don't let the game win over your body. Just a tip if you want to be better at these kind of games.

To the poster: don't feel like you're missing out on having a super hero GPU cuz I have one and it doesn't do a damn bit of good with a game this buggy. It still flashes. STILL after OVER two months.

You're an idiot, the Quake series is a perfect example of how you can change graphics settings to suit your personal preferences.

That's simply not true unfortunately. FSAA is a generic term for a full scene anti-aliasing technologies. FSAA can be MSAA, CFAA, SSAA, MLAA, EQAA etc. Where MSAA (Multi-sampling anti-aliasing) just stands for the most widely used method at the moment which does have various levels based on number of samples used per pixel. Then interpolation is performed between neighboring pixels based on subpixel sampling grid used by the MSAA to create soft smooth edge. The reason why you don't have different levels of FSAA in Crysis 2 is because you're not using MSAA but some sort of edge post processing filter. Which i must admit is miles better than most of edge blurring crap they use in direct console ports (like Dead Space which is a great game but their edge smoothing was useless and ugly). But still creates annoying mucus looking thing around some objects. Most probably in connection with other blur effects. Which also cannot be controlled independently.
I usually turn off this stuff because i prefer not to look through dirty and smeared glasses. Because that's how usually games look with all the blurring nonsense. DoF and blur is interesting for some time but gets annoying a bit and i usually turn it off. But i still prefer to keep shader effects and textures at the maximum level and not degrade them just because they are connected to the blurring effect.

Haha i have to agree with DJ Casper... on the generation of idiots. Out of all the things the developer fixes, you guys are crying about disabling game-balancing details such as Motion Blur (which is supposed to mimic real-life visualizations which is the aim of most new generation games), and the loud noise in Nanovision.

You guys are not mature enough in anolyzing a game, and its problems, let alone its bugs.

Like it or not this is what the new generation games will be pushing for, more graphic realism, without using too much computer resources. Motion blur actually saves some rendering work for the GPU.

well anyway, I enjoy this game, and I love what the developers have done with it. Back then F.E.A.R multiplayer was something.... and Battlefield series is still another thing. Now Crytek is up the ranks with them with providing some great looking visual effects... you wont find a better cloaking effect in any other game.
