Patch Errors

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 5:13 pm

When trying to install the Tribunal and Bloodmoon patches (North American versions), I receive a few different error messages: "Missing or Invalid Registry/INI entry" "Old File does not exist" and "Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match."

These messages appear everytime for both patches and at the end of the downloading process it tells me that the patch installation was successful, which is false.

I have Morrowind, Tribunal and Bloodmoon installed along with the Suran Estate mod (I doubt this has anything to do with the problem, just listing what I've downloaded). My laptop is pretty new and runs on Windows 7.

I do need the patches because I'm stuck in Tribunal when you kill Dandras Vules (Dark Brotherhood leader) and the dialogue loops and you cannot exit the dialogue.

Any help is greatly appreciated and I'll be glad to give you anymore information you need in order to help me. Thanks!

To start with, when you have both expansions installed, the only patch you should use is the Bloodmoon patch, v1.6.1820. Also, there have been off and on problems with the download for that patch over the years. Make sure that it's about 425kb. Lastly, turn off your anti-virus before attempting the patch

If it still fails, what's the error message you get for this patch?

If all else fails, open the console as soon as Vules comes in view and click on him so that his id appears at the top of the console window. Enter sethealth 0 and that will get you past this point. You'll still need to get the patch done though. There's another bug or two that will mess up Tribunal a little ways down the road.

I turned off my firewall and I still get these three messages, the "Old File does not exist" one twice, for a total of four errors. I'm installing the patch straight from the Elder Scrolls website and it is 425kb.

And thanks for the temporary solution, but will it add all necessary journal entries upon his death?

And I definitely have the patience and time to figure out this problem, as I'm only infiltrating the Dark Brotherhood hideout so that they will stop attacking me in my sleep (I'm still playing the main quest and faction quests for Morrowind before I move on to Tribunal).

You need to turn off your anti-virus app, not your firewall.

What OS are you running? If Vista or Win7, right click on the icon and if it has an option to "Run as administrator", try that.

That still didn't work. I'm running Windows 7. I also tried downloading it in compatibility mode resulting in the same errors.

I figured out how to download the patches without the errors occuring...

I unistalled Morrowind (deleted the Bethesda folder while backing up my saves), and reinstalled Morrowind, then reinstalled Tribunal, then downloaded the Tribunal patch, then downloaded Bloodmoon, then downloaded the Bloodmoon patch.

Not sure why it has to work this way as I downloaded the disks in the same way I did before (with my firewall down), but whatever works works. :) Thanks for the help regardless!
