1.1 Patch for Fallout

Post » Fri Aug 13, 2010 6:05 am

I'm about to pick up the Fallout Trilogy, but I have one question: Should I play Fallout 1 vanilla, or get the 1.1 patch, which removes the time limit. The reason I ask this is because I feel I will enjoy the game more if I have the option to play at my own pace, so I can easily get used to it, since this is my first ever turn based game. However, I don't know if removing the time limit will somewhat change the challenge or enjoyment, or anything like that, about the game. So, which option should I go through?

Thanks in advance.

It is a very generous time limit. You can't just ignore it, but you can take things at a fairly slow pace and still complete that with plenty of time remaining.

About how long in hours would you say the time limit is? Remember that is my first turn based game, so I may not get used to it that quick. I really want to enjoy the game, as I have heard many good things about it, but I don't want the time limit to discourage me from playing it.

When traviling, time goes by fast, and I travel alot so I grabbed 1.1. And remember, if you dont want it , you could always just delete it.

What time limit? (the water-chip quest!? or
Spoiler
the one for Necropolis?
)
That's a patch I'd never take.

From the Wiki:

In version 1.1 of the game, the time limit for the mutant attack on Vault 13 is eliminated, allowing players to explore the game world at their leisure.

Is there two time limits? One for the water chip and the mutant attack, or are they the same?

The one for the chip can't be removed, but I think the patch increases it some? Might be mistaken. The second one you should remove because if you are slow at doing sidequests or just want to roam into random encounters and level up you cannot for very long.

And yes, it's 2 time limits. The first is 150 days? Something like that. The second is a year or something.

There is the water chip timer that can be extended in game (at the cost of advancing the attack due to the attention the caravan would bring to the vault), there is another timer (deadline really) for the Necropolis...
Spoiler
Get there too late and the whole city is dead when you get there.

I just got back from the store, and I bought the Fallout Trilogy pack. I decided I am going to use the patch, so this can be closed now.
