Maybe it's an Xbox 360 issue but the game is very stable for me on the PC.

I've been playing since I downloaded the patch this morning, alls going well. Completed Come Fly with Me (saved it) and I didn't get the DLC nonsense and my save loaded ok after Come Fly, Ed-E is still missing lol lost him ages ago checked Primm a few times and it never turned up, but running smoothly, no freezes or anything like that, kinda weird since the update the morning, Legion Assassins are after me which didn't happen on the first play thru and some guy from NCR gave me a radio, which also didn't happen first play thru, so far Obsidian you don't svck anymore ;)

In my 1st play thru over 110 hrs my 360 only frooze 5 times maybe 6.

The lock-ups happen to everybody, but they are contingent on play time and not instability.

The game is so huge and has so many material textures that if you play 4+ hours at a time without going back to the dashboard now and then, it'll eventually slow down and then crash.

The cache can only handle so many textures and polygons before its overloaded.

If you play it in more manageable chunks, you won't get any issues.

Do you clear the cache? Helps me when the loads start to slow down. I also copied the game to the hard drive.

Good to know I'll have some fun with the Assassins sooner or later again... That was a bug where, it seemed like anyway if you encountered them, and then reloaded an earlier save, you wouldn't see them again even though you were vilified by them (they're supposed to come hunt you down every couple of day). They were BRUTAL when I faced them the first time (at like level 12), should be fine now but there was no way for me to fight them at the time (5 Legion, a couple dogs, and I was shooting them in the head and doing like one tick of damage at a time).

Is anyone else taking the developers advice and restarting from the beginning after the patch? It was mentioned that a new game might be necessary for all patch changes to take effect.

I've already restarted twice due to bug and have lost another 30 hours or so having to load old save games due to bugs and the current save I have is at 60+ hours. (And before you ask, yes I do not work. I have a disease that causes me to be homebound/disabled. Reguardless,) I'd rather not start over. I have to say I am suprised at Bethsda on this one. I will continue to think of them as one of the better companies producing games out there because I have always enjoyed their products. I know from playing a few seriously buggy MMOs like LOTRO that bugs happen and people who have no clue about the production end are breathing down their necks telling them to release in time to compete with Black Ops, Fable III , Force Unleashed 2 and Assassins Creed. I feel for them, really I do. However, telling someone in a game that is designed for the played to have sever days (and I mean hour wise) worth of time invested in to the game about 2 months after the release to RESTART to make their patch work is a bit of a slap in the face.

I know this happens more and more often because of the amount of money put in to these games and a need to release them prior to Xmas for them to receive good returns on their investments. I know this patch was probably the quickest fix they could produce for the number of bugs discovered. However, I don't think anyone expected a Bethesda game to be in this bad a shape. It is definately a big hit to their rep. And telling people to start over 'cus it might be the only way for the patch to work is an even bigger hit to their rep. I know I'll think twice beforebuying their games right after release from now on. And about buying the DLC right away for fear of more bugs.

Anyway that is my 2 cents worth.

Well that's not very good. I am not a tech expert but, if what you said is accurate, that sounds like just a badly made game. Plenty of other massive games don't have such issues. The only games I had crash issues with are ones with scratched discs.

I don't think they are trying to make you restart intentionally, I think its more so because the glitches can be caused by something that happened long ago in your game, the first time I killed that McCaffery guy I was able to still enter the strip no problems for a while, then suddenly I went back later and could not go into the strip without the game freezing unless I wore an old cowboy hat. This was hours after I had already killed that guy that creates the glitch and I didn't have a save to take me before that time. Now I don't know if I really need to start a new game to get rid of this particular glitch or not, I was just using it as an example that sometimes what happens 20 hours ago could be the cause of what is happening now and that the patch prevents the glitch from happening but doesn't fix what damage is already done. I decided to take the safe route and listen to the developers and restart my game, I lose 40+ hours but I like playing the game so I don't really mind starting over again, it gives me an excuse to try new skills, perks and weapons.

there are a lot of really crazy bugs in the 360 version of the game. it's not right for the PC gamers to keep showing up here, and confusing people by saying the game is stable or they are not having these bugs because they can type in a code like ID: 00167EFF and have things drop from the sky. I don't even know why they keep coming to this section. All they do is talk down to people having problems or pointing out bugs.

That's weird if your game is freezing that often even on the 360. I have an old 360 arcade and after this patch I was able to play for over 4 hours straight and not one problem. I recommend to try and clear your cache the game shouldn't be behaving that way even on the 360.

If you're getting a consistent crash, that issue is probably baked into your save. I'd suggest rolling back to a game save prior to this point being an issue.

Dude, start the game over from scratch. Obviously if you have encountered bugs during your 20+ save then do you really feel the patch is going to take it's full effect? Start the game over. What is the big deal? I don't get it....
