Patch 1.3 is live.

Did you try it with a "Fresh new game", or a "Possibly corrupted old-save-game"

I'm pretty certain my issues are memory issues being caused by skyrim being a 32-bit app with limited 32-bit addressing trying to talk to the GPU drivers which like the OS are 64-bit, and thus nothing to do with save games. It's pretty random overall, as this so far has done nothing to rectify memory issues it'll continue to happen every ~20 minutes to 2 hours. 70~80% of the time, these crashes are also preceded with graphical anomalies, primarily unloaded textures.

Beth games are about exploration, not doing quests. The quests are there for an excuse to explore, nothing more, nothing less, but they are not essential for the primary game focus. That is their philosophy. It's possible that people who focuses on doing quests are disappointed by the intent of the games that Beth develops, but that isn't Beth's fault. They have to fix the primary bugs (i.e., anything that impairs exploration of the game world) before anything else, as they explained in their post update last week. In fact, if they didn't do this, people focused on quests might find it impossible to even attempt to get to the location required for a quest, so fixing the basic play mechanics such as magic resistance actually is an indirect fix for quests.

I'm sorry but your post is ludicrous. The game IS the quests.

Absolutely. However, Bethesda have stated in the past that their first priority is to find and fix bugs in the game engine, before focusing on game "data" problem like quests. They did announce that they would be focusing on quests and game balance issues after the first of the year.

I agree that quests are what makes the game, and this game has more than its share of borked quests, but at the same time there is little point fixing quests if the game is crashing, resistances not working, etc.

So I just loaded a save that had me outside Whiterun, and when I walk northeast along the river a dragon comes by and attacks. The dragon did everything it was supposed to do, with no glitches, and when I killed it I got its soul. So at first glance it seems OK.

Absolutely agree with the priorities. I was simply responding to the idea that the game isn't about quests which is ludicrous.

Played for a couple of hours and had no problems whatsoever. Everything went smoothly and I had a lot of nice experiences. :)

Exactly. It's not like being the first to get Bethesda's patches is exactly a blessing. It's more like having a Wabbajack aimed at your game.

i will take my chance with the Wabbajack :shifty:

Folks, this is not quite accurate. SOME PS3s have problems, but some do not (most, probably). Very similar to how some PCs have problems but some (most) do not. That's why the problem is so hard to fix. It isn't universal. It may even be something specific with Sony (they have several versions of PS3 on the market, and they just put out a patch for the Vita compatibility/interaction with the PS3).

It's best not to think that this is a universal problem when it isn't. It's unfortunate, yes, but not universally experienced.

Naturally it should be rather clear that this only applies if you are suffering from it constantly. If not, why would you follow my advice/suggestion?

I don't want to sound like a jerk but this has got to be one of the most ridiculous things I've read on this forum.

I never downloaded the 1.2 patch for PC after reading the posts so I played a PS3 version for a week. It worked great by the way, only thing I saw was one backwards-flying dragon at the hot springs area. The rest were fine. I've been itching to get back to my first character though and it sounds like I should jump in. Thanks.

Just played Skyrim after letting Steam Wabberjack it and I have a couple of minor problems I didn't have before.
I can't put a marker on my map now... left click just closes the map. This also means I can't fast travel to cities since I can't click on their icon.
I can't take everything from a corpse with the R key... nothing happens, but I can take items one by one with the E key.
R lets me sheath/unsheath weapons ok though.
I've checked the controls setting and it is ok.
I'm going to start a new game to see if that fixes it, if not I'll be reverting to my 1.1-with-unpatched-TES-V.exe backup .... which worked fine.

Edit: I can't start a new game because I am not able to click the ok tab after choosing my name in character creation, so everything is stuck at that point.
This is very weird... nobody else has key problems? So it is NOT the 1.3 patch? Hmmm....

I take when you start up the game again from Steam the update is already there ? Seems that way, I was onto of a mountain and was blasted with Fire , sure it took my health down but didn't seem as bad. Anyhoo I just ran up to the mark for the Shout as the Dragon was busy with a Troll , the dragons attacks were between me and the troll so I got the shout and just legged it. I will go back later and kill the dragon.

While walking up the mountain the game only paused once for a second or so, will come back after more gameplay.

I had done the Bards mission for the mission verse and took it back to the college in Solitude, but walking with the head of the college to the blue palace, he repeated "I do hope the court like the verse" he stopped about 6-7 times to say this to me. I suppose I should have run ahead instead of walking pace beside him. No biggie but annoying as hell , he repeated in 2 times before I asked him if he was ready to reveal the verse.

Resistances and backwards dragons were pretty close to game breaking.

Should they ignore easy fixes just to make you feel they are working on major ones?

You mean the fix for their last fix?

Hmm, wonder how long it's gonna take to get this game up to release standards if they have to keep patching bugs their previous patches made?

I saw my first backwards flying dragon last night. Hopefully this patched fixed it so I don't see it again.

Since patch 1.2 I've had SO many crashes to the desktop I stopped counting. Basically every 5-10 minutes, sometimes more frequently. Before it I had none.

Has anyone who experienced frequent crashes noticed whether 1.3 has fixed this? I think I'm going to dl it as soon as I get home, I just don't want another nasty surprise (Thanks Steam you P.O.S.) :shakehead:

The 3rd party 4gb loader fixed this problem for me. The game is 100% unplayable for me without it. All it does is CTD. Have you tried using it?

Chances are this patch will break the 4gb bypass like 1.2 did. Haven't seen anything on it yet.

I downloaded it but I haven't activated it. Can you activate it through NMM like any other mod, or do I have to copy it over into the folder? It doesn't overwrite TESV.exe does it?
