Patch - Missing Companion

Post » Mon Nov 15, 2010 2:07 pm

I have Ed-E glitched such that I have his perk and people think he's still with me, but he isn't. You know the score. Ceasars tent, can't get in. That sort of thing.

The patch made a marker appear on my map for him. In the Boomer enclave at Nellis base. I'm friendly with them, so no trouble. I went to the marker and... Nothing. I think he's underground, in the Nellis Array. Problem is though, Ed-E marker only shows up on the world map. On the local map, he's missing. Be it when I'm in the wasteland, or in the Array, he's nowhere to be found.

Is there a possibility he's behind a wall or something?

Anyway, all that wait for a patch, and the companion marker appears, and I still can't dismiss Ed-E.

Wish I'd never met the mechanical contraption.

I want a refund :(

I'm having the exact same problem. I just loaded up NV for the first time in a weeks (I had lost ED-E) and the map shows him just a tick south of the Nellis array. I thought I probably lost him when fighting the ants under the array, and sure enough, the marker confirms this. But he's not under there, and there isn't a green marker on the compass, either.

This was going to be the playthrough where I recruited all companions, and I was waiting, hoping the patch would bail me out (I have 50 or so hours invested in this playthrough), but it looks like I'll have to start a new game, again. :swear:

I bet if we photographed our map screens, he'd be in the same damn place.

I'm through with this game. Not putting any more time in to it.

I just noticed his marker moves depending on which door you exit the the sub-array/generator room from. He's in there trying to follow, but cant follow you all the way out. And he's a ghost you can't see or interact with. Guh.

Knowing where he is but not being able to do anything about it is more frustrating than not knowing where he was at all.

I'd like to just quit NV, but I can't. I'll just start a new game, recruit ED-E, and then dismiss him for good.

I know exactly what you mean about the not knowing thing. It's a cruel teaser to make us think we can find our missing Ed-E, but then in fact, not be able to at all.

Someone somewhere at gamesas or Obsidian is having a right laugh at our struggles with this game, I'm sure. All the way to the bank with the none refundable money :(

Have you tried to get into vault 34?

During my game I had Ed- E as companion but since the damn thing kept on dying an the loading screens, I left it waiting in the Lucky 38 suite, but when entering inside the Vault 34 it just appeared out of nowhere.

I haven't been to Vault 34. Is that a known way to unglitch Ed-E then? I've tried the elevator thing many times in Valut 22. I might have a go at getting in to Vault 34. See what happens.

Didn't work for me. I've tried every ED-E trick out there, and with no joy at all. I think the bug you and I suffer from has no remedy, aside from Bethesda/Obsidian throwing us a bone.

I don't know if it's a way to fix that particular situation but the way it happened to me was kind of weird:

1. Ed-E was suppossed to be where I left it inside the suite.

2. I was wandering around for several days with my second companion, Raul.

3. When I discovered vault 34, kind of stumble uppon it, because I reached it from the top of the mountain after entering what it look like a mine shaft.

4. After following the tunel found the door into the vault.

5. I was exploring the vault and fighting the ghouls when I turned around Ed-E was there.

During my time inside I found a bunch of glitches:

1. Hidden enemies, which I think it's not a glich. You could hear them and when crouching your HUD showing "CAUTION", but never found them until they attacked.

2. . In the reactor room there are a couple of enemies that you can't kill right away because they seem to be trapped in a contiguos hall that I can see from two big windows, but suddendly they just pop next to me, I killed them, but couldn't loot the bodies. I turn around to unlock the reactor door, got inside and hear a noise of broken glass, it's the same two glowing ones I just killed, shoot them again, this time I was able to loot the bodies.

Here is what I think:

I was being irradiated the whole time.

Enemies were suppossed to pop up.

The place has some minor glitches (besides these examples)

Since you can drain a couple of flodded areas, the game it's trying to keep up with all these events.

So maybe, getting Ed-E there was just another glitch.

They should have done like they did in FO3, companion are always fast traveling with you wherever you are.
You'd think they'd learn from FO3 and implement the change in NV...
