To patch, or not to patch (1.3)?

Post » Sat Dec 17, 2011 10:34 am

I want to know everyone's thoughts on the new 1.3 patch for XBOX 360.

We waited long enough for it. It has some very important fixes.

But... every patch Bethesda has introduced has caused allot of problems.

I havent dared. Still on 1.1, nothing broken in my game, so why "fix" it. Heard horror stories of non-usable savegames after update. At 90 hours into the game, losing my saves would be "not cool"

Yes. Every 1.2 patch caused a lot of problems.

I've not had any problems on the xbox and my resistance and backwards dragons seem to be fine now.

If you didn't download 1.2 then 1.3 will not fix anything as 1.3 was made to fix the mess 1.2 made.

This has been said countless of times already.

Went from 1.1 to 1.3 and so far so good with dramatically improved textures for me (which was pointed out to me was done in 1.2 but eh new for me). It seems really random who suffers from bugs. For instance Blood on the Ice which everybody encounters problems with worked fine for me...twice.
Only broken quest for me is Repair the Vial.

1.3 fixed some stability issues which made my playing experience smoother. Some of the slight stuttering I had is gone and so far it hasn't frozen in loading screens, not that this happened often but I did have to restart a few times with 1.1.

Now waiting for the actual patch that fixes quest bugs!

I shared your trepidation Bleakwail, after patching to 1.2 and then having to revert back to 1.04 to enjoy the game like before. I bit the bullet last night and downloaded 1.3 and so far no problems at all.
No texture issues, backwards dragons or problem getting souls. All good so far!

personally,i will be waiting (have 1.1 360 patch installed),until there is a decent patch released (that won't give more problems than it fixes/from what i have read about them).

I am playing patchless right now. But I want to download the 1.3 patch so that the bookshelves work.

Am I understanding correctly, that playing patch-free means I have the book shelf glitch?

Well, they said they would get to quests in jan, prioritizing etc, so I really don't see why people still complain that 1.3 is not fixing quests.

I have both backwards flying dragons and screwed up resistances on my character right now, so I'm definitely downloaded 1.3 (PS3) as soon as available. Who know what/if new problems will occur, but right now I can't kill this one particular dragon for a quest and it's pi$$ing me off, hehe.

im on these forums because thanks to the new patch my game cant go 2 loading screens without crashing on any save file. and my bookshelves still dont work.

so yeah... dont get it. bethesda is out of control. their "patches" have reliably broken more than they fixed for me.

If your bookshelves didn't work properly before the 1.3 patch, the patch didn't fix them. What the patch did was to make sure that the glitch can't happen anymore.

Isn't there any way to clear the cache on the PS3, and/or uninstall updates? I recommend playing patch free until 1.3 comes out for you.

I have no idea if the shelf glitch exists in my game because I haven't tested it yet.

My question is, the did bookshelf glitch / bug always exist? Or did on of the patches CAUSE it to start happening?

I prefer playing patch free. But if there is going to be bookshelf issues, then I want to get patch 1.3.

No, I believe the save games are messed up making it impossible to revert back.

Also the PS3 patch 1.3 is released now. At least in Europe. NA shouldn't take long.

Sorry but can't answer that. I lucked out and haven't encountered that glitch/bug at all so I don't know if it was there from day one or not.

AS with Oblivion and Morrowind, I'm really not having any problems so unless something horrible comes up that I know a patch fixxes or I need it for a mod I really want, I'll just skip for now.

My opinion, if you are a console user who got stuck with 1.2 get 1.3. otherwise wait. 1.3 makes it's own problems, but it better than 1.2. 1.1 is best.

This problem seems to affect different people/platforms in different ways. Whilst others, like yourself, have encountered the problem, I'm playing on the XBox, from disc, unpatched and all bookshelves and weapon racks work fine.

When it comes to patching, ask yourself :
Have I experienced a problem in my game ?
If no, no need for patch. If yes:
Does the patch fix the problem I am experiencing?
If no, no need to patch. If yes:
What's the risk of introducing new problems with the new patch? Are there known issues introduced with the new patch? Are those worse than the ones I am experiencing now?

Answer all of those questions, and you'll know whether to patch or not.
