Patch 1.4 ruins CrossfireX + Eyefinity 3x1 Play

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 12:10 am

I've been able to play the game on my system using 3x1 Eyefinity + CrossfireX (using two HD 6870's) for the past two-plus weeks. (That's about how long I've had the second video card.) But, after having this patch applied, it flickers like crazy (very, very low refresh rate, I'm guessing) and I have to disable CFX in order to play at all. If I disable V-Sync, it's even worse!

I've tried the game tonight with both the 11.3 official drivers and the 11.4 Preview (March 23) drivers. It behaves the same in both.

I'm talking about the SP Campaign ONLY...not MP as I haven't even tried MP as yet.

UPDATE and FIX!!

I just installed some newer beta drivers posted at Guru3D. They are NOT WHQL. But, they have fixed the flickering problem I described.

I have 2 6870s in crossfire too, no issues so far in MP, I'll try SP again and check if I have issues

Edit:

I played an SP mission and it works just fine.

This game has no support coded into it at all for multi GPU alternate frame rendering. It's just luck if your config plays with no flickering. I've had the flicker since day 1 so I have yet to play this game since release.

I'm sure they don't give a toss, though.

Thanks for the replies!

Just to be very clear: The game ONLY gives me the horrible flickering when I enable CFX + Eyefnity (3x1). If I disable CFX, it doesn't flicker at all. But, of course, I have lower FPS although it IS playable. But, getting use to the lower FPS now -- after having been playing with CFX enabled -- is quite an adjustment to deal with. Since I don't do MP, I wish I could uninstall this patch and get back to the previous way it performed.

the flickering for some people is due to anti alaising been enabled, edge aa is ok but not normal aa. try forcing it off in ccc or using the tweak tool to disable it.

Cant say for sure if its whats happening to you, but it is for some
