Pauldrens (shoulder armor)

Post » Wed Nov 03, 2010 10:40 am

Well?

Imo morowind has yet to be surpassed as far as character customization goes with gear you equipt.
The ability to wear a shoulder armor on one arm and a glove on one arm and none on the other was
T A T A M O U N T

Please bring it back blizz.

I really hope armour is handled like it was in morrowind.

I think they'd look cool. I'm hoping the new physics engine would allow smooth actor movements without clipping issues.
I don't think they have to be big. Just adding some cool looking metal on your shoulder.

I'm up for it as long as the pauldrons have reduced enchantments so that the enchantment stacking isn't abused like in Morrowind, which is why all the extra armor slots were cut for Oblivion.

I miss morrowind have a battlemage with a cloak and all the armor was underneath and the pauldrons would be above the cloak.

I would love separate parts tp the armor such as left and right, I also loved wearing a robe over my armor.

Ummm guess I'd be in the maybe part.

though I prefer to have multiple parts, that does include bracers and gauntlets to enchant, to me it also a memory hog.

its not a biggie to me

Like Morrowind, hands down.

I'm not saying go overboard on the number of slots (not like 20 or some absurd number), but having a decent number of slots allows for more customization, including custom enchants. Versatility is always nice.

Yes, I would like for pauldrons to be seperate from cuirasses again, and there should be slots for both left and right, as well as for gloves or gauntlets, this affords the player more customization, and while certain combinations might produce clipping, sometimes, you can't really avoid that without sacrificing customization.

I assume you mean removing some armor slots for the sake of balance? In which case, yes, I'd say it's an appropriate description. I like game balance, but there's often a better way to achieve it then just removing a feature that's poorly balanced entirely.

I would like to have pauldrens, but I don't want the right and left thing. Just call them pauldrens and make it possible to wear two of them, like rings.

That would make things easier. You could assign one to left or right. Same with gloves. Though it's not "realistic" neither is armor completely changing when a female/male puts it on.

Definitely the Morrowind way. :goodjob:

It might sound like a small detail, but that and individual gauntlets/bracers really added a lot of variety for customizing your armor set.

No one's pointed this out yet?

I hate to be a grammar/spelling nazi, but just so you all know, it's PAULDRONS. With an "O". Or a pouldron or powldron, but always with an O.

Also, with regards to using left/right universality; that could be done realistically. Unless there's a designated front and back for the pauldron, it could be worn on either shoulder. Shoulders aren't chiral, like hands are.

No, the problem that enchantment abuse with all the slots of armor and clothing all being enchantable was more like a flesh eating virus that was consuming all of the body. It was definitely more than a sliver.... Frankly the extra armor slots were just for looks and had no function other than making yourself op with enchanting. Now if they can put the old armor system back in and not break the game with enchanting then I'm all for it. Otherwise, I'll forsake having the armor system for balance any day. Same goes for spears.

How does that matter in a single player game? If you think enchanting is imbalanced, just don't enchant that way. Problem solved?

I want pauldrons as items (but not left and right separate), even if the curiass you carry dictate what you can wear (clipping, positioning etc). It makes sense to me that I'm not able to wear glass pauldrons on a steel curiass, as logics suggests they wouldn't fit. The same goes for greaves and boots. But it also depends on the construct of the armor itself. You may have more flexibility in matchmaking with a leather or chainmail armor than you would with a plated one. Depending on the implementation, it sounds like it can be a complex puzzle to solve.
