Pauldrons and all things Armor

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 6:04 pm

In the Gameinformer article a surprising amount of Armor is showcased, suggesting varying amounts of customization in Skyrim.
On pg 49 there appears to be a warrior clad in what looks like Elvin Armor, nothing particularly special here but the Armor still looks cool.
On pg 50 we see what appears to be a Dunmer being stabbed, the interesting thing is that he’s armor only has a single pauldron, or shoulders peaces which were present in Morrowind. What’s interesting about this is that in Oblivion all of the armor was pretty symmetrical, which leads me to believe that pauldrons will be a separate piece of armor in Skyrim. On pg 52 we see the PC with what appears to be only a pauldron and bracers. It can also be noticed that in the picture on the top the PC has a belt, while the picture on the bottom left, next to the one with the hot barmaid, the PC does not.
All these seem to indicate that armor and clothing will be much more customizable in Skyrim. Personally I want that customization to be taken to another level with highly customizable armor including multiple pieces (pauldrons, boots, ect) the ability to wear clothes and other armor under armor, like Leather or chain under plate. I also think it would be cool if we could custom design our armor, with emblems designs and color.

Yes, I noticed some of those same things when reading the article. I also would like to see a return to individual piece armor (left/right gauntlets, pauldrons) and the ability to stack certain clothing items (robes over light armor). I would also like to see a return to the beast races not able to wear boots.

Definitely would like to see the return of armor pieces. Also, I hope they make daedric armor as rare and as special as it was in Morrowind.

Don't miss the beast races not being able to wear boots, though.

I noticed his arms seemed a bit off, and thought it was a draugr at first, but didn't say anything after I realized his arms were too smooth to be a draugr. But I didn't think it was a dunmer. Thanks for clearing it up.

I'm good with the return of armor pieces if they can't be enchanted or enchanted with lesser power. I would rather dodge another overpowered enchantment stacking like in Morrowind.

Okay, ignoring whether that's a dunmer or not, did anyone notice that the cross straps he's wearing over his shirt/armor appear to go over anything? We see it in other pictures over bare skin and over a ring cuirass.

I didn't notice that, but it's certainly interesting.

I'm pretty sure it's a Dunmer.

He clearly has green skin, show me a dunmer with green skin. I mean c'mon people!

Dude, are you blind? He has green skin.

Not in my article, it’s more of a dark gray. Also he doesn’t seem muscular enough to be an Orc, I mean look at the Nord.
Anyway let’s get back on topic

It looks dark blue with a green tinge to me, which may be due to the ambient lighting. Goblins in TES have always been short with wider heads and hunched backs.

It might be a goblin, but that's a big might. It looks more like a dunmer to me. It just isn't a typical Orc build. Also, it's posture seems too straight to be a goblin.

All this info was posted by me and a few others in another thread. The consensus was it's possible they implemented more armor slot but we don't know yet.

Also, I think the dude's a dunmer.

Yeah, the (apparent) Dunmer has it, then the PC has it over his cuirass in the picture with the big spider, then over his bare skin on the bottom of the 'Relates Well With Others' page. I had an idea that it may be a sort of carry strap for two handed weapons.

I also noticed that I think it might have something to do with carrying a weapon on your back. In the one picture with the claymore the PC has it, but in all the other pictures he does not.

I'm thinking the strap might come with two handed weapons, and you put one handed weapons in the belt. The PC has the strap whenever he has a claymore in the screens, unless I'm forgetting some.

I was thinking that too, but in the recent Concept Art Time Lapse video, at the beginning when you can see the original screenshot, the PC is wearing the straps, but wielding a one-handed shield and sword. He also seems to be wearing the super-light armor or shirt that the 'dunmer' is wearing in the magazine picture.
