Pauldrons confirmed!

Or whatever you call that thing on your shoulder.

The enemy on the right is wearing the exact same lower armor and bandolier. Notice, the player character's armor doesn't have it.

Yep. I've discussed this back when the GI magazine was released. Not much discussion on it though... Until now. Thanks for pointing it out again.

But then again, we don't know 100% that both chest pieces are the same. The straps are identical, but perhaps the straps with the underlying leather is a different piece combined together into a cuirass. I hope not though.

It's promising, but still "pauldrons likely" rather than "pauldrons confirmed". Untill we hear it straight from the horse's mouth or play the game, we won't know for sure.

Nevertheless, I placing my bet with pauldrons being in.

IMO, this gives more evidence to a Fallout 3 style of clothing, not Morrowind (as much as I'd love that). The separated pauldrons are probably apart of one piece of clothing connected to the torso, or even a full body piece (but for some reason I have a feeling we'll get to choose boots and gloves)

Wow, good find. Of course it's possible they could just be two different sets of armor (both of which may not even make it into the game) but ignoring that, this is the best evidence for more segmented armor that I've seen so far.

Also notice that the person getting stabbed is also wearing a shirt underneath, while Dovahkiin is not. This may point to being able to wear clothes under armor once again.

I've brought it up in another thread but I think http://download2.zenimax.com/akqacms/files/tes/screenshots/DragonApproach_wLegal.jpg may be the same armour sans pauldron.

It has already been confirmed that F3 style armor will not be used.

I posted this a while ago in a different thread, and it is also very promising evidence of separate pauldrons. It didn't get much discussion. What are your thoughts on it?
Exciting news!

I may have uncovered some evidence that gives more weight for separate pauldrons.

Check out http://i652.photobucket.com/albums/uu244/MrTissueBox/RightPauldronSkyrim.png?t=1301101453 screenshot taken from the "Time-Lapse" video from the Game Informer hub. Notice the cuirass is the same cuirass for the character in the Skyrim trailer. Yet, in this particular screenshot, you can see a right pauldron, which is not shown on the character in the trailer.

For further evidence the cuirasses are the same, http://download3.zenimax.com/akqacms/files/tes/concept_art/Frost_Troll_Fight.jpg designed for this screenshot shows the same armor for the character in the trailer, with the added right pauldron.

Its the same piece, and the pauldron seems to be a part of it. So this is no confirmation of pauldrons.

Notice how its the same chest piece. Only that the Dunmer being killed has the iron armor underneath.

I'm pretty sure Pete Hines said the armor system ISN'T like Fallout's.

It was from Pete Hines on Twitter, saying something along the lines of, "This is the Elder Scrolls, not Fallout."

Yes, armor on ones shoulders has been confirmed. Whether or not they are separate pieces is still unconfirmed. Why the hell would you make a topic called "pauldrons confirmed" where your basis for it is a few pictures where people have pauldrons on their armor? That could just as easily be part of the cuirass like it was in Oblivion.

Just because they have similar parts of armor doesn't mean it's a whole new thing. Look at Steel armor and Blackwood armor in Oblivion.

"Confirmed" is too strong of a word for this. It's more like "strong evidence in favor of..."

Because it's missing on the player character's armor, but it is on the enemy's armor.

It's the exact same armor.

I think what Velorien was getting at (correct me if I'm wrong) was that a screenshot is not a true confirmation of anything.

Until the game comes out or we hear an announcement of some kind, all these things can change. Also, there are many unknown factors involved in those pics - is it the same armour or just similar? (etc)

As awesome as seperate pauldrons would be, we will just have to wait and see. It is still a bit early to be saying it is a definite when Beth hasn't specifically said that they are in. Here's hoping though! (and for wearing clothing under armor)

To me, honestly it looks like the same Armor, minus the backplate on the chest. Look at the details, the four cross-straps joined by the center ring, the pauldron too, I just think that the "Backless" vesion is the Nord Variant of this same armor, while the Full-vest is the Dunmer variant.

It's not the same chest piece. It's a shoulder piece with straps to tie it on. I'm not an expert on armor, but I imagine shoulder pieces need to be attached somehow, instead of just balancing on your body. Individual pieces of armor/clothing need not be restricted to a small little box covering only a very specific part of the body. It's good we'll see a greater level of intermingling of different equipables instead of looking like Lego figures.
