Paused game

Post » Sun Jul 04, 2010 8:05 am

In past games the screen was blurred when the game was paused.

Now I'm just playing Dragon Age 2 and there the game isn't blurred when paused and you can zoom around your character to make screenshots of fighting scenes, which in past Bethesda games wasn't possible.

I do not suggest to be able to give tasks while the game is paused like in DA2, but it would be great to be able to zoom around your character in 3rd person when the game is paused, so that you can easily take screenshots of cool fighting scenes.

What do you think about this?

I think you'd only need that for consoles (if you can even do screenshots there). On the PC side, there's some console commands that will freeze the action (TAI, maybe? Haven't really done that myself) and allow you to take action shots (using TFC, toggle free camera, to move the viewpoint).

edit: well, those commands were in Oblivion & FO3. We can only assume there will be similar console commands in the new engine.

I like this idea, haha reminds me of when I did this on super smash bros years ago trying to get the perfect looking "screen shot" even though you couldn't in that game

tfc 1, toggles the free camera and pauses the game.

I'm not sure if this is such a great idea. Because you have to press ESC to pause your game, but that brings up the ESC menu. So they'd probably have to add another key for a different pause.

As a PS3 player (no console commands), it sounds like something I'd love to see... provided they allow taking screenshots from the game menu, itself. I can't recall playing a single PS3 game that's allowed taking screenshots, however. Are there any?

I'm sure there are some. Or at least some that take automatic screenshots.

I'm sure there are some.

The closest thing I can recall is recording gameplay in Just Cause 2, but it only ever did so in 240p. I want 720p screenshots, and I'm not sure if that's too much. Regardless, I don't expect it in Skyrim, but this thread did remind me of it and place it on my wishlist.

While I don't really care about the ability to pan around, I would like to have the ability to freeze the action. Sometimes when things get a bit intense, it would be nice to simply pause the action and get a chance to take a look at what I need to deal with.
