Pay gold for theft and lose stuff from inventory

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:46 am

Mijav

I can't find good keywords for searching for this problem. Problem is this:

When I pay a penalty (gold) for some theft for example, I also lose some stuff from inventory. Exclusive restore Magicka, Exclusive restore health. Potion of Cure Blight Discase, Potion of Cure Common Discase, Potion of Cure Paralyzation. And Extravagant Saphire Amulet.

Is this normal, or maybe bug? I was informed about removing some gold from my inventory (penalty), but not about removing other stuff (from list before).

Yep. It's a fine, not a bribe. They still want all the stolen stuff back. :D

The thing with Morrowind is that if you steal something it will be marked as stolen - fair enough - but so will every other item of the same id that you have in your inventory. So if you steal a Potion of Cure Common Disease at the start of the game, use it and go buy some more legally, those will also be marked as stolen and liable for confiscation if you get arrested for the rest of the game with that character.

I have that problem with Grand Soul gems I legally buy all of my Grand Soul gems from the enchanter in Mournhold. But whenever I get arrested they all get removed from my inventory. It is very frustrating. Anyone know why this could be?

You must have stolen one at some time. Now all have been flagged as stolen.

If your on PC, you can open your ess file with Enchanted Editor, and delete any unwanted stolen reference from items.

What is Enchanted Editor?
Is there any cheat code to clear all stolen status from all inventory items?

No, there is no console code for that.

I made one experiment.

1. Buy some Exclusive Restore Health Potion and Exclusive Restore Magicka Potion

and Exclusive Potion of Night-Eye from Fine Alchemit Nalcarya of White Heaven at

Balmora.
2. Leave Nalcarya and go to the river.
3. Find Hlaalu guard and steal all from his pockets.
4. Pay Fine. 25 drakes.
5. Look at my inventory.

Result: I lost 25 drakes Fine - and Exclusive Restore Health Potion and Exclusive

Restore Magicka Potion.

Now what does this mean? Maybe she sells stolen things?

This means that you have stolen potions of that type some time ago. Now ALL potions of that type that you have (even bought ones) are marked as stolen.

Yeah. You may not even be aware that you were stealing. If you go into a room where there are no NPCs around to shout at you, pick up an item it may have an ownership tag on it. Hence the stolen status.

Indeed. It's a horrible system and I'm glad they fixed it for Oblivion.

The Oblivion system is way worse... everyone immediately knowing what you're trying to sell is stolen, even if it's been stolen from a city on the other side of the continent? Yay...
